Tikanis! (a little phonetic greek for us!) I'm first generation American. My mom is 100% Greek and Dad is 100% Italian. I was married in the Greek Orthodox church (St. Paul's in Irvine, CA), although DH and I now attend a non-denominational, Bible teaching church. (DH was Catholic.) When I was 10 to 12 my mom and I moved to Athens where we lived with my yaya and papoo (more phonetics and for the non greeks...that would be grandma and grandpa). My grandparents have since died and left my mom and I their house on the island they're from, Chios. (My uncle got the Athens apartment.) Anyway, I would consider myself Greek primarily because I was raised with the church, customs, language of the Greeks.

John H. goes by Capt. Spanx...another story for another day (John you can explain that one:scared1: ).....

I'm so jealous...I want to do a discruise to the med, but only if it goes to greece and the islands and to italy...my brother is the only family member that has been to greece in this generation and he was there for greek easter and he had a blast!

i like the church and the customs, i only know a little bit of the language, but i love the food the most!

....i have learned the John H. is John1, aka Capt. Spanx, and i have read about the bedazzled spanx... i'll put in my order too .... :scared:

can't wait to meet you on board... :yay: :yay: :yay:

Good morning everybody!

So, excuse my ignorance, but who is Vera Bradley? What does she make that everybody wants to buy and needs display cases for? Some sort of knick-knacky type things?

Morning and Happy Friday!!

My DH, John is known as John2.....or Charming.

PJ - you changed your sig! I was hoping to steal the logo with Jack you had in there...I know it wasn't a winning one, but Mickey would never steal anything, well maybe Minnie's heart....I guess I should follow the group though! :)

Everyone ready for the weekend? I am hoping it is nice out. Tomorrow is Haley's second birthday. We took a cake to her school and we'll probably make one for home tomorrow....we celebrated last weekend though.

Just how long is this flight from LA to FL? I think I remember around 6 hours or so right? I am going to need lots of tips on keeping children occupied!

Good morning all!

My hubby is a John too and can be a bit grumpy, but Grumpy John as a name is already taken!!! What are we going to do with these grumpy John's.

He's really not that grumpy...except if he has not had enough coffee or enough sleep....but he's never grumpy on mickey's ship:banana:

He has the zip up grumpy sweat shirt jacket and when he unzips it, his tee shirt reads....i'm grumpy coz you're dopey....he loves wearing it to work:rotfl:

Let's see, we have:

Capt. Spanxx John1
Charming John2
UK John also Grumpy
JB John
(my) Grumpy John

who else???

John gets grumpy when he is tired or cold!! Such as on our first evening EMH in March last year on a very cold day, and when we were still tired in the evenings from jetlag from the journey over! We stood for Spectromagic and he froze, so we went to look for a sweatshirt - I wanted it to be a Grumpy one, but he wouldn't pay the price there!!! So he waited and watched Wishes getting even colder!!!:rotfl:

Normally he is placid and amiable, and I sure hope he is on the cruise! He did have a bit of a grump the other night when I told him what the recommended tips are!:lmao:

Still no word on our friend. This has us a little concerned. Rumor has it that this may have been a VIP run. This would explain the delay in releasing the names. The DOD is listing the cause as Hostile, as opposed to nonhostile-mechanical.

Thanks for all your concern. :goodvibes

I hope you hear something soon. Still in our prayers.

Ya know, DH and I used to go to movies and dinner for dates....now, after 50, we go to doctors and medical procedures together.....

while i was in the "procedure" room today....scared and hating it.....i closed my eyes and placed myself on the mickey ship with DH having early morning coffee on my balcony in room 5122 and then later going to the pool and having bbc's...

it helped.

yes, i am real greek. mom is pure and i'm a mix. but i grew up with all the traditions and all the food....

how about you and your friend john?

btw, noel said there are about six john's. one of which is her DH and one is my DH. we assigned them names: noel's DH is JB and my DH is grumpy john. should we name your friend greek john?

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Well, on the last cruise I was John1 because there were two of us, and it kind of stuck, but Greek John is OK too . . .

My mother (who recently passed away) came from Greece, and both of my father's parents came from Greece. I am 100% and grew up with all the traditions and the religion. Amy (DW) is not Greek.

We were in Princeville in Kauai in 1986 for Hands Across Kauai on May 25, 1986 which was simulataneously held with Hands Across America.

Anybody remember Hands Across America? Hands Across America was a benefit event staged on May 25, 1986 in which millions of people held hands for fifteen minutes along a path across the continental United States. Participants paid ten dollars to reserve their place in line; the proceeds were donated to local charities to fight hunger and help the homeless. The event was a project of USA for Africa.

Our youngest DD turnedd six months old that day and we were on a sabbatical trip for my DH's work.

Ahhhhhh the memories.....

We were married May 24th, 1986, and yup, the next day, May 25th, we were at Hands Across America!

I am the ONLY one of my immediate family who has NOT been to Greece. They all went in 1987 :sad1: , but we had a newborn son . . .

I will say a prayer this morning. This must be causing you a lot of anxiety - hang in there. Lisa

Hi all, sorry I haven't been around much. DH flew CH 46 in the USMC and we have friends in Iraq squadron that had crash yesterday. We've been a little preoccupied. We are still checking on our friend, he is the CO of the squadron. Keeping good thoughts.

:wizard: I sincerely hope you hear good news soon. Dbro's close friend is USMC and flies blackhawks. He's had 3 tours in Iraq. We are all thankful that he is currently stationed stateside.

BTW, you have all those challenges in your signature. Do you exercise all the time? Are you one of those incredibly fit people that I am so jealous of? My Dsis is, and I wish I were.

No, I wish I was one of those incredibly fit people. I've lost about 20 lbs and still need to lose another 20 or so. I use the exercise challenges to try and motivate me to get out and exercise. The last few months I haven't done so well though:sad2: . Apparently I prefer "nesting" to "exercising" in the winter:rotfl2: .

I need to get committed as well....starting Monday I am going to the gym on my lunch everyday....my dad signed my DH and I up for a mini triathalon in April...so I need to get my butt in gear and hopefully it will shave the pounds off!!

If anyone is interested, here is a set of "Mickey" ears that, once put on paper with magnets, are really cute on either side of the round room number on your stateroom door.

Thanks! Those are very cute! I just saved the pic to my Panama Canal File! :)

I made mine out of black felt (then glued them to card stock)...they looked so cute and fuzzy!

Great idea! Just made a note of that too!

What fun activities you have planned for the weekend! :thumbsup2
