For any of you that have them to spare, my brother could use some prayers his way . . .

He found out that he has a mass in his colon, and on Sunday he will have surgery to have part of his colon removed. While pathology results are not yet back, I think they are pretty sure it is cancer. The only question is whether or not it is localized or has spread, and whether or not it is treatable beyond the surgery. My brother is 5 years younger than me - only 42.

Tomorrow I'll be taking my dad to the hospital to see him - we have not told dad yet all that is going on.

Amy and I talked tonight, and we have had family illness and hardship follow us on our last cruises. My mom passed away the week of our last cruise with the Geeks, right before we left. We had a funeral and left the same day. Now my brother's illness, and I can only pray that they have caught it in time.

Thanks for letting me share. It has not been very happy around here lately, and my thoughts are with all the rest of you who have had family and friends illness and worse to deal with . . .

Ken, I was a big fan of the original, but it looks so campy now . . . a Geek friend from the last cruise, Carla, got me hooked on the new one. I am just enthralled by the show and the themes. With everything on my mind tonight, I forgot to watch it - I have the DVR set to tape the later repeat.

Thanks Cheri, we are fine. They found the car but not the driver. The lady who owns the car that hit us said no one should have been driving it - right. Still don't know if she has insurance . . .

Nope - don't watch shows for the men . . . I do like the new Starbuck better!

Guess what? We now sell this at our stores. I will have to try it!

I drove Sophia halfway to Toledo tonight (her Aunt met me) so she can visit her for Little Sibs weekend there. So, I am by myself again until Alex comes home for break tomorrow.

Good night everyone!

John, call or e-mail me if you have questions. My mom is now a 5 year survivor of colon cancer. My sister and I have had to go in every two years for the last 6 years and have pre cancerous polyps removed. They are genetic and grow very fast. I have pathology done every time.. I know A LOT more about this than I should.

I will tell you, that my mom suffered massive anemia before they discovered her cancer. It was from the bleeding in her colon. The cancer had spread to the lymph nodes and so she had 1/2 of her colon removed and chemotherapy. If it is cancer, they will operate within 3 -5 days. They do not wait for this.

I have lots more info, so if you need someone to talk to about this. I am here.

Prayers on the way...

Kim

Anyone remember the "Kool Jazz Festivals"???

I got to see Miles Davis at the Kool Jazz Festival at Blossom Music Center.

Wouldn't it be cool if they had a Jazz night in one of the clubs on our cruise!

OK, any New Yorkers here old enough to remember the Schaeffer Music Festival in Central Park? They ran all summer. Tickets were, $2 and $4.

I saw groups like, Canned Heat, The Kinks, and yes, even Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show.

Thanks Nan.

Going to the Hospital early tomorrow morning. His surgery is at 8:00. I don't know if there is internet at the hospital (I would rather have that than TV if I was in there). I may take my laptop.

I would advise bringing your laptop.....all those millions of hours I sat in the hospital I used my blackberry to go online....it really did help take the tension off.

Still enjoying the pictures Ian - keep them coming!

omg, that's horrible!! Was it Dave or Sammy?

It was Dave. The US festival was back in '82 and again in "83. I went to the 83 show. heavy metal day included Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions, and Van Halen. Now that was a concert.

Ian, your photos reminded me of my first apartment in Rogers Park. We were right next to the El track. My bedroom actually had a 'view' of the track. Lights would flash through the room when the train went by at night. I slept right through it after about the second night! (Back in the days when I slept the sleep of the innocent!)

How envious I am . . . I grew up loving the Beatles, but by the time I was old enough, they were no longer a group. I still remember watching Monday Night Football the night John Lennon was shot with Howard Kossel broadcasting . . . for me, that was "The Night the Music Died".

I lived in NYC when Lennon got shot. I so agree John, it was the night the music died. I often wonder still about what affect he would have had on the world today if he lived.

While he was alive, I remember days sitting near the Dakota with my journal and writing to John Lennon. I never mailed it, but I was just thrilled by the idea that he walked where I was walking and he lived where I was sitting. I thought it to be very profound and so I felt inclined to write to him.

I probably still have my journals from those days. What a hoot it would be to read them now.

very cute logo and I got Molly assignment last week. She will be writing a report on Molly Pitcher. She will have all the research done before we travel, and will just have the actual writing to do on the ship. Not too hard a task. Wilson may have a journal and some plant experiments to do. I guess I have to figure out if he can bring on seeds to do this or not, hmmmm customs might have a problem with this huh?

Yeah, the seeds could be a problem. Is it something he has to do for the Science Fair? If so, maybe he could do a different kind of project that doesn't involve live things.

Molly--writing a report should be easy. I'm guessing she would do a rough draft that I could help her correct and then do a final copy. Does that sound right?

Thanks Nan.

You might want to bring some music too.....just a thought. I will be thinking of you and Manuel at 8:00am tomorrow.....all positive thoughts and good prayers. Let us know when you can how things go.

John, how is Manuel today? Any updates? How are you holding up? It's good to get lost in some of your favorite tunes. It has always helped me through the hard times. It will make you feel better too.

His spirits are actually pretty good. He was being sarcastic and cracking jokes this evening. Some of his good friends were there. My brother has many, many friends. He has been a kind soul that has given his life to his students over the years.

Thank you Kim for the info. I keep telling him stories like this. I told him, you have two choices - one leads to certain death, so you really have no choice. (can you tell I am the pragmatist of the family?)

Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts once again. I wish Amy were here . . .

I would advise bringing your laptop.....all those millions of hours I sat in the hospital I used my blackberry to go online....it really did help take the tension off.

I will have my Blackberry too . . . Are they "legal" in a hospital? I keep turning my phone off because of the "no cell phone" signs.

I did get to see Elvis. DrHug was so sweet and gave his ticket to a friend who LOVED Elvis. Of course I did too, so the two of us gals went. DrHug thought he would see a later concert or in Las Vegas, but alas it was The Kings last tour. I did really enjoy that one! :lovestruc

You know, I think my ex and I were in Vegas with some friends at that time. I remember having the radio on during the drive and hearing continuous ads for Elvis appearing at one of the hotels. We didn't have any interest in seeing him at the time but after he died, we wished we had. What year was that?

Thanks Nan.

John,

It is important you find out what stage it is. Stage 3,4 5. You can have 1 and 2, but I doubt it. Stage 4 is always chemo and stage 5 is very bad.

YES! I saw MANY concerts in Central Park.....Schaeffer Music Fest....yes, but as I recall they were all free. My friends and I always brought blankets, booze and food and sat out under the stars and heard the best music for free. I don't remember any of the groups I saw, but I do remember that I loved going.

I spent the morning getting waxed, buffed, polished, and tanned so I am ready for St Maartin! I guess I should finish packing.

Since I couldn't get my ressie to come up on the DCL site I called and they said that it would be about 2 more weeks before we get rooms!

Oh god, another two weeks:scared1:

:cool1: FIVE WEEKS FROM TODAY...just about this time...SAILAWAY! :cool1:

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

.

I can't remember my first concert, it might have been when I was in my 20's UB40 in Philly.

The kids first concert was Smash Mouth, ok Nan has a story again....skip ahead if these bore you.

The band that played at our wedding was The Gents, it was their last gig, a guitar player left to join another band...Smash Mouth. The drummer was also invited to join but declined. The drummer is a brother of one of DH's best friends (in our wedding party, as a groomsman) long story short, we saw Smash Mouth at the San Mateo fair and went back stage to meet all the guys and say hi to Greg (guitar player)

kids and lead singer, can't remember his name

It is funny, isn't it. I don't even hear the El, unless I really pay attention to it and listen for it.

YEA, why is that.....I could sleep like a log in my youth and not at all in my mature years. What's that all about. When did I lose my ability to get a good night's sleep???
