It is a type of Whisky made from rye grain. Usually made in Canada and the US. In the US there is a law that it has to be made with content that is at least 51% rye. In Canada there is no such law. Some have been made with as little as 10%. Some popular Canadian Rye brands internationally are Canadian Club (often referred to as CC), and Crown Royal. I tend to drink Wiser's Deluxe.

Don't get it confused with Scotch Whisky. That is yet a different type of whisky. My Scottish ancestors are probably rolling over in their graves, but I'm not fussy on Scotch. I find it has a real bite that doesn't sit well with me.

Thanks. That really was a lot of info. I have always wondered. I'd probably like it because I love a good scotch on ice and whisky in mixed drinks.

I'm off to watch Doctor Who, the new series starts today.

39 or so years ago, Doctor Who was a major part of my family's Saturday evening. Strange how things come full circle. At least these days I don't hide behind the sofa! :rotfl:

Last week we went to see The Cult in concert. they put on a pretty good show and still sounded good. Too many of the 80's bands don't sound as good anymore as they have gotten older.

However, the band that opened for them "The Clicks", could use a lead singer. (S)he kept trying to sing at an octave too far below his/her range. Only their last song was done at the right level for the voice and it was pretty decent.

But the Cult came out and rocked the place so they were quickly forgotten.

(s)he that is funny.

My first concert was Bob Dylan and the Band at the Forum in L.A.

My next one is Bruce Springsteen on Monday.

Woody

My first concert was Bruce Springsteen in the late 70's. It was one of my most memorable. He is one of my all-time favorites, along with James Taylor, Jackson Browne, The Rolling Stones, and Billy Joel.

I think when I leave the office, I need to crank up "Thunder Road" in the car and roll down the windows.

John, I will certainly pray for your brother...what is his name? I miss you around here....but I certainly understand your issues....living it myself.

Thanks Lisa. All the stories that all of you have shared have given me strength to know I can get through all of this. I mentioned earlier, his name is Manuel.

Me too, only I'm the retired evil school nurse. This is my MSN Display photo

Great, now I'll be looking for this person on the ship!

John - I like your taste in musical.

Anyone have concert t-shirts? We all could wear them one night. At the pub crawl?

Woody

Likewise Woody . . . living in LA it looks like you have just an amazing ability to see the great performers on a more regular basis.

As to the T-shirts . . . even if I still had them, I doubt that they would still fit!

When I saw the Rolling Stones, a friend of mine and I were in college (he now lives in LA) and we went to class the day of the concert, left from school, and drove 5 hours to the Pontiac Silverdome to see the "Tattoo You" show. This was at the time of "Festival Seating" where you sat where you could get a seat when you got there. That was an experience! We then drove all the way back home after the show, and got home close to daybreak. What memories.

My first James Taylor concert I went to was at Blossom Music Center (outdoor Venue) in Ohio. I went with one of my best friends who was a girl (but not my girlfriend). The last James Taylor concert I went to, I went with Amy, and my son Alex and his Girlfriend. Time passes by, but some things stand still.

The "Mexican Train Game" dominoes are so much fun, but highly addicting.

Lisa, if you bring it, Mrs. Woody and I would love to play.

Woody

Me too!

No, I'd consider the Beatles a tie with Elvis! :thumbsup2

Weighed in this AM....I'm down 6.5 now! :woohoo: :woohoo:
Every pound down is less strain on the knees and hips and means being able to move around the ship more easily.

Well, it's past time for breakfast (had an hour long phone call with Chicago sister), so I'd better go build an omlette and get this day started.

later, kids

.
Well done with the continued weight loss Jackie.:thumbsup2

So excited it has started. but wasn't too impressed.

Smart Car Day!

We were up bright and early this morning to go and pick up Mrs. Fezziwig, our "orphan" Smart Car.

The people who originally ordered Mrs. Fezziwig, decided that they really wanted a Cabriolet model which is a convertible. However, they were too late as the build process had started and she was delivered.

They decided they didn't want Mrs. Fezziwig and preferred to wait for a convertible.

Oddly enough, she is nearly identical to the car I ordered, with the exception of missing 2 small options I had wanted. I was facing a 12 month wait, so I opted to "adopt" Mrs. Fezziwig.

Took much longer than I thought it would at the dealer, but we said goodbye to the 1998 Subaru Forester, and drove Mrs. Fezziwig off.

We did a bit of shopping today and I was a bit unprepared to have drawn so much attention to us with people honking at us.

At one point at an intersection, we quite literally stopped traffic.

I did not grow up with cars. My father never knew how to drive a car. As a child, in my entire family only 1 person knew how to drive a car, my aunt.

I did not learn how to drive until I was 28 and moved to Chicago for a job. The job entailed flying around the country, visiting customers and setting up their back office mini-computer systems.

When I was hired, no one ever bothered to ask me if I knew how to drive or not.

In a space of 3-weeks I got my learner's permit, took a flurry of driving lessons (I actually learned how to drive in Chinatown in NYC), got my Illinois License and bought a car.

Because I did not grow up with cars, they have never meant very much to me.

This is the first time I have ever bought the exact car I wanted. The really funny thing is, that for me, Mrs. Fezziwig, is a "sporty" car. Maybe I'm having a mid-life crisis.

Consequently, I am just not used to driving a car that draws any attention from anyone.

Here are some photos of us with Mrs. Fezziwig:

My first Rolling Stones concert was in the mid-70's, and I've tried to see them on every tour since. They are just exhilarating.

James Taylor is another favorite. I first saw him on the Gorilla tour ("How Sweet It Is," "Mexico"). I really like the melodies and harmonies of some of his later work ("You Are The Only One"). Earlier this year, he and Carole King had some benefit shows at the Troubadour, a tiny venue. I tried to get tickets, but missed out. I'll see JT in July.

I've seen Jackson Browne about 25 times. He's an extremely talented songwriter, and his words speak volumes.
