Lanyard info is on the website - PJ will send you the access info.

Here is an example of what they will look like (these are from another cruise) we'll have badges designed for this cruise.

Quick question for anyone out there -- what is the deal with the Lanyards? I got an e-mail from Kelly wanting to know if I wanted to order -- couldn't find info about them.

Thanks

Also, there is a lanyard team of people who have donated money for everyone and their families to have them.

Thanks a bunch! I feel bad for complaining now since I only have one and nowhere near the things you're dealing with. Sorry! It's just overwhelming in the beginning, trying to figure out exactly what we're dealing with.

Holly, no need to be sorry and no need to feel bad! Everytime my situation starts to get to me (and it does every so often as that is normal) I always end up seeing someone else who is in a worse situation from my vantage point and I say, "there but for the grace of G-d, go I" and I remember that my glass is half full and that I should be happy and thankful! Just remember that we are blessed to actually see miricles! (Lord knows when my oldest was finally out of dipers, it truely was a miricle!)

Hang tough and remember you are among friends with whom you can vent and not have to feel guilty about it!

I attended Huntington Beach Elementary School. I was a Junior Oiler. :rotfl: Greatest Grade School I ever attended. At that time, it was the ONLY grade school in Huntington Beach. Can you imagine. I am really dating myself.

I used to take the Norwalk bus from the city to end of the line Bolsa Chica then "walk" :scared: to HB pier. They used to have the best nachos! However, it wasn't until the later years when older Dsister found The Cliffs -me? I was just a sweet innocent child. :rotfl: I was just along for the ride :rolleyes1

Laura - I am interested in seeing the Los Arcos rock formation (from land is okay). Is there an economical way to do this? How far is it from the port? Thanks.

You might recall we missed Cabo San Lucas on the 2005 Eastern PC due to hurricane Hillary.

Woody

Hey Woody - didn't realize you were on that one too cool :thumbsup2 Watch when I meet you I will probably remember your face. I usually do good in remembering a face I've seen - ok recollection on the names but I am getting older. oh well - that reminds me - got to go and include my photo for PJ!

Los Arcos is very cheap on your own a water taxi will take you by it and the sea lion colony for around $10.

tigger1221 - so sorry to hear that, but at least she is in a better place.

I agree with this - if you don't want to spend a lot of $$ - you can always find someone on Medrano beach or by the dock to take you out there. That is what we did - we ended up paying less than $15 to have him take us to the "Eye of the World" and the Arch. I don't know if this year is the year that the arch is "on land" (About every 8 yrs or so - the Arch is swamped with sand - due to certain conditions) which is when most of those tourist commercials are shot - the rest of the time - it is only accessible through water taxi.

Anyway, the "Eye of the World" is the "newest angle" of tourist trap. Remember the Brad Pitt movie he shot there? Archilles? It was shot here and he and Jennifer were constant fodder for gossip while he was filming? Something like that - just before he jumped ship from wife 1 to thing 2? Well, the scene in the movie is when he goes to talk to his mom - if you look carefully - it is shot right in front of this rock formation. Basically nothing but one side is Sea of Cortez and the waves crashed over the years to open a Vertical "eye slit" to the other side which is the Pacific ocean. Mind you it gets pretty rough so if your prone to seasick - take something. The day we went our boat driver said it was too dangerous to attempt a passage through the rocks. Other boats did attempt it so you can also ask about that. Our little tour also took us past Lovers Beach and of course to Divorce beach. But we didn't make any stops! ;) Didn't want to take the chance. Its supposed to be nice but we decided to get back to the dock as there were too many tourist boats going there. Oh yeah - they also took us past the very last rock that forms the mountain range all the way from North America. Sorry - haven't feed the brain and the names escape me. Nothing major but if you think things like that are interesting - then its definitely a way to go. Oh yeah - have them point out the Scooby Doo rock. :lmao: Its just a jutting rock with the profile of Scooby Doo. Heck - what do you expect from the locals?

Usually pretty safe but I prefer to err on the side of caution - let someone know if your going on your own and who the boat owner is. You never know - I usually call my DS at home or since I'm now friendly with several cruisers - just send a text message with the info. I've had nothing but good experience out there as most rely heavily on tourists to make a living but you can never be too cautious right?

You're a very special guy!!

Thanks for the info on the lanyard -- the pictures were great! I will be ordering one for the wife and I.

Once again you guys rock -- can't wait to meet you all.

Not yet, but we've been pretty busy. I was going to ask him if he wants to do it now, but he just walked by me with an empty laundry basket, I asked what he was doing, and he said, "I decided to get the dirty clothes out of my room because my floor is COVERED in clothes!" :rotfl2: Well, it's true, but I'm shocked at his eagerness to clean today! I guess I'd better start another load of wash now! Off for a bit to help him clean! :thumbsup2

Strike while the iron is hot dear lady, if he wants to clean, let him clean!! I never stop my oldest from getting the vacuum out and cleaning the house! Who am I to stop his fun?:rotfl2:

I could use someone to take care of that fun at my house!! :rotfl: :thumbsup2

Yup, that is us too. We had to reduce what we have out since the condo is less than half the size of the house, but what we have is what we liked best.
Makes us smile and it's our house so who cares?

Jan :earsgirl:

Our house too. When family and most friends come they look at us like we are nuts. I am lucky, though, my three best friends understand.

so my digital camera is completely out of commission. On best buy they have a canon A560 8.0 mp - I have and A610 5.0mp for relatively cheap. I am just wondering if I should stick with the Canon's...it's been pretty user friendly.

But what TYPE are they? Sandisk is the brand. I am assuming they are CF - compact flash, which most Canon cameras take, except for the small ones that take sd cards.

Agree with John. I absolutely adore my Canon. I've just upgraded to the Canon 40D along with (finally!Only took DH 20 yrs to get them) some real Canon Digital lenses

For smaller point and shoots - I have a history with cameras and I've found that for durability the Olympus Stylus ones are good to carry. They are shockproof and waterproof. Plus I just picked one up for $110 :cheer2: Anyway, stick to ones that use your cards you have unless they are really old. Also, depending on what sizes you tend to print pictures - the megapixels may not matter that much. For Instance - if you tend to print 4 x 6 only or there abouts - anything 5 mp and above would work. The Olympus are 7 megapixels and print fine when you put it on HQ or SHQ which of course takes up more memory onthe card.

Sorry - didn't mean to go off on a tangent - I just love my cameras - they are important as my passport - I don't leave home without them! :)

Goodnight all. We might be on the new thread by my morning. I see it is already up and ready for us(thanks Marr:thumbsup2 )

A Tail's Tale

I am on my quest for tails, and I have an educational tale to tell.

As you may recall from our last episode, Ian did not want any plain tuxedo. Ian phoned Cruiseline Formal, and asked about tails for a Disney Cruise. After clearing up the misunderstanding that he did not want to rent a Mickey Mouse tail, but instead was interested in a formal set of tuxedo tails, they told him they don't have any.

So, that brings us to today's episode... (go get your mug of Ovaltine).

I started phoning around rental places in Chicago. Men's Wearhouse has some very nice selection of tails on their web site, but no prices. I phoned a local outlet to make inquiries. After once again clarifying that when I said tails I was referring to a tuxedo, I and told that the price for a 7-day rental was $139, for the 14 days would be about $209 and for longer than that was $270. For the 2 of us that comes out to $540.

Given a choice of $540 for 2 sets of tails or sack cloth, we'll be appearing at dinner in sack cloth.

So, I decided to phone another rental place, this time a local Chicago chain and not a national chain.

The guy who answered the phone was very nice, and when I said, I'm interested in renting tails, immediately understood that I meant a tuxedo (this was a good sign).

He said that it would be about $99 to rent the tails for 1 week and then a bit more for 2 weeks. I told him it was a 15 night cruise, so I would need them longer than 2 weeks, he said (now imagine a Chicago accent), "Don't worry, we'll work something out."

This seemed much better, and much more in line with what I had in mind. He told me that, I should plan on coming in in April.

So, things have brightened up a bit. I'm going to call another local place during the week (no Sunday hours), to see what their pricing is like.

I guess in this case, it pays to go with a local place.

Opinions on Digital Cameras and Memory Cards

I saw some postings on this and am just going to chime in with my opinion here.

I personally do not recommend getting a mammoth 4GB memory card or anything like that. Here's my reasoning why, in my opinion, it is putting all of one's proverbial eggs in one basket (these are the views of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of other on the thread, the DIS, Disney, or this television station).

I have had memory cards go bad on me and become corrupted. While it may be a pain to swap out cards, my feeling are that if anything goes bad, I only lose the photos on that card and not everything.

Opinions on Laptops

I have been on Macs since 1995. Not a good source for opinions. I work on Windows at work.

I did have a Dell laptop at home for a while (hated it) until someone in this house who shall go unnamed, was taking a pot down from the ceiling pot rack and dropped a 3 quart Caphalon saucepan on it's screen. The Dell is now used to prop open doors, and also works great as a weight on the lid of my scanner when I need something heavy to press down a book being scanned.

It is now a Mac only house (that is until Mrs Bennett arrives), although I do also run Windows XP on my iMac under Parallels which is how I create the Windows runtime version of Mouse Manager.

So I openly admit that I am not a person to be proffering recommendations (sort of like fishing in polluted waters).

Ian,

Your Tale on a tail got me thinking. I had just bought a tux on E-Bay for $82 but didn't find any tails with this dealer. Soooo, I looked again and found a seller on E-Bay that has it all, tails in just about any color and size you want , new and used.:cool1: Price seems to run from about $100 to $150 (plus shipping). It might be cheaper to buy from this guy rather than rent if you can buy off the rack. The dealer name is "The Tuxxman" or just do an E-Bay search for "Tuxedo, tails" and that should get you there.

Doug,

Thanks. I'll have to check him out. If it's cheaper to buy than rent, I'd do that. Not too sure about sizing, but I'll give it a look.

Thanks for helping me make a spectacle of myself ... err, I mean making myself look spectacular.

I posted this on the main board but thought I would ask here too. Does anyone know the width of the upper bed? I need some type of railing for the end of the bed, not the side.

am I the only one who does not like nanas?

What about Pappas???

MIL has decided that she is going to drink. Paul and I have decided that we are going to hunker down and protect our family. I'm so sad this is the way it is and I fear for the day I will write you that we will be planning a funeral. Paul and I are talking openly and I'm trying to keep a civil tongue in me. In years past I've been so angry and in turn mean and that doesn't help this at all. I'm worried about how to handle the daily interactions, which can be frequent or with long time in between (depends on her drinking) but for example, I've asked Paul not to mention Wil's party again to them in hopes that they will just blow it off (as they most likely will do) and then none of us have expectations of them being there. It's just easier without them around I'm beginning to think. :sad2: :sad1:

Nan... Gilda Radner said something that is very true...

You can't take care of anyone else unless you take care of yourself. I fear MIL is doing exactly what she wants and not thinking any further. Your family comes first. I know DH will feel bad but I'm sure he's been through enough to know what's going on. It's a tough one... :grouphug: :grouphug:

what is so bizzare about Ken and the frazzled Barbie in the background???

Hey Nan... did I ever tell you that my parents are BARBIE AND KEN...

No really.... Mom's name if Barbara and Dad's name is Kenneth... (although he goes by Vincent.)

No wonder I need therapy...

BTW... my great grandparents were Adam and Eve... (on separate sides of the families....)

Good job on the speedy return of all the emails everyone!

Oscar preview stuff begins here now (at 3pm) and goes on until about 2am. The rain has stopped for a short time, but it is cold. We may see more wraps tonight.
