Just for you Holly, a quick shot with Photobooth - this should cheer you up, or scare the mice away! It will probably be gone by Monday.

I actually like that look on you!

Thanks Jan. Good reminder. I'm 37, but the doc at the women's clinic thinks things are happening early for me. Long story, won't go into the details, but I was having some crazy symptoms (all women who've been through it will know them) and the gyno asked how old my mom was when she started going through menopause. I told her I had no idea because we'd never had reason to discuss it, and she told me to ask and that if she went through it early, that's hereditary and is what's going on with me. So I asked my mom and she told me she started at age 36 with the exact same symptoms I was having, and was done by 40. Wow! Many women go through this for 15 years, so if I get the same good luck as her and only suffer for a few short years, I'll be very happy! So I was put on birth control pills to see if that would regulate things and all symptoms stopped.....AND I started losing weight.

But recently, the hot flashes came back, as well as skipping cycles for 3 months, so it's very possible this is just hormonal emotional problems. But this just feels more "down" than when I was having the mood swings. There's no swing, it's just down. I don't know....but having Tyler back home tonight lifted my spirits. He was so happy and smiley today! We had fun together.

Makes sense to me. Hormomes are dropping. Emotions go with them. Then a new normal is achieved, brain gets readjusted and the new status becomes normal until the next drop.

I have had some that felt like I was in free-fall off the edge of the Grand Canyon. Fortunately I don't CRASH and hit bottom, but that free-fall is not fun.

Women friends, pastor and MD are all good resources! And of course, downloading on the DIS. :thumbsup2

A Tail's Tale

I am on my quest for tails, and I have an educational tale to tell.

As you may recall from our last episode, Ian did not want any plain tuxedo. Ian phoned Cruiseline Formal, and asked about tails for a Disney Cruise. After clearing up the misunderstanding that he did not want to rent a Mickey Mouse tail, but instead was interested in a formal set of tuxedo tails, they told him they don't have any.

So, that brings us to today's episode... (go get your mug of Ovaltine).

I started phoning around rental places in Chicago. Men's Wearhouse has some very nice selection of tails on their web site, but no prices. I phoned a local outlet to make inquiries. After once again clarifying that when I said tails I was referring to a tuxedo, I and told that the price for a 7-day rental was $139, for the 14 days would be about $209 and for longer than that was $270. For the 2 of us that comes out to $540.

Given a choice of $540 for 2 sets of tails or sack cloth, we'll be appearing at dinner in sack cloth.

So, I decided to phone another rental place, this time a local Chicago chain and not a national chain.

The guy who answered the phone was very nice, and when I said, I'm interested in renting tails, immediately understood that I meant a tuxedo (this was a good sign).

He said that it would be about $99 to rent the tails for 1 week and then a bit more for 2 weeks. I told him it was a 15 night cruise, so I would need them longer than 2 weeks, he said (now imagine a Chicago accent), "Don't worry, we'll work something out."

This seemed much better, and much more in line with what I had in mind. He told me that, I should plan on coming in in April.

So, things have brightened up a bit. I'm going to call another local place during the week (no Sunday hours), to see what their pricing is like.

I guess in this case, it pays to go with a local place.

Opinions on Digital Cameras and Memory Cards

I saw some postings on this and am just going to chime in with my opinion here.

I personally do not recommend getting a mammoth 4GB memory card or anything like that. Here's my reasoning why, in my opinion, it is putting all of one's proverbial eggs in one basket (these are the views of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of other on the thread, the DIS, Disney, or this television station).

I have had memory cards go bad on me and become corrupted. While it may be a pain to swap out cards, my feeling are that if anything goes bad, I only lose the photos on that card and not everything.

Opinions on Laptops

I have been on Macs since 1995. Not a good source for opinions. I work on Windows at work.

I did have a Dell laptop at home for a while (hated it) until someone in this house who shall go unnamed, was taking a pot down from the ceiling pot rack and dropped a 3 quart Caphalon saucepan on it's screen. The Dell is now used to prop open doors, and also works great as a weight on the lid of my scanner when I need something heavy to press down a book being scanned.

It is now a Mac only house (that is until Mrs Bennett arrives), although I do also run Windows XP on my iMac under Parallels which is how I create the Windows runtime version of Mouse Manager.

So I openly admit that I am not a person to be proffering recommendations (sort of like fishing in polluted waters).

Holly,

Been there, done that, times 2. As a single father of two young men with Autism and mild/moderate and moderate/severe retardation, I can tell you that "this too shall pass." You are doing the right thing by focusing on what is best for your son. Most appointments I have are for the boys and they come in pairs, (never could get the two schools to even have the same vactation periods!) You and I can sit down sometime onboard and I can give you an attentive ear that has 20 years of thoughts and wisdom about special ed and making resources available. For now, continue to do as you are doing and hang in there! Hugs are always given freely to those who want and need them!
Thanks a bunch! I feel bad for complaining now since I only have one and nowhere near the things you're dealing with. Sorry! It's just overwhelming in the beginning, trying to figure out exactly what we're dealing with.

Ian - you made me laugh! Especially at what happened to the laptop :rotfl2:

BTW - sent you an email.....re: tales or tails:)

I am awake after last nights auction, which was different. There was no silent, everything live. It was interesting. A woman at the table next to us won the "pick of the Live" and instead of picking esperaza resort in cabo, she chose a malaysian dinner party at a parents house! Pick of the live is them selling $100 raffle tickets and winner gets their choice of live items. I ran into several people I knew from my school and around. They were all surprised to see me there with my friends husband ( and wearing her nametag too!) BUT, we had a great time and his wife got her sleep so all is well.

Sounds like you had a great time!

Hi on my blackberry. We have been at this dance competition since 6am. I am pretty tired but also very nervous. I decided to tell you guys and then maybe the nervousness will go away. Mostly, the dances are groups, but in a half an hour Gretchen goes on stage with just one one other dancer. The most important thing is for her not to know I am nervous so then she won't get nervous. There are about 1000 watching and 3 judges. I am sure she will do just fine. I have no idea how these kids can get up on stage in front of all those people.
Wow! By now I'm sure you've already posted how Gretchen did, but it will be a while before I'm caught up, so I'm excited to find out! :cool1: I'm sure she did great!

We've had a busy but fun day so far! Church this morning, with a stop on the way at Tyler's dad's house because he left his bear there. Bo has been with Tyler since birth and they never go anywhere apart. Well, this is actually Bo #2 but we try to downplay that fact because it was a traumatic event losing the original Bo. He was lost at day care last year. I suspect he was left on the playground, but he was never found. SO.....last night Tyler couldn't sleep because he CAN'T sleep without Bo. He was so sad without him and I left his dad 2 messages asking if he could bring him over or if we could come get him. So he tossed and turned until really late, then was up around 5am.

After church we went to Chuck E. Cheese and it was WONDERFUL because there were only 3 or 4 other families there. I knew it would be the right time of day!

Next was the Polar Plunge where we watched my friends' 3 daughters jump. We had to stay until ALL the jumpers jumped because Tyler loved it! He's ready to jump next year and already has his outfit picked out. Um.....I DON'T THINK SO! Brrrrrrr! I'll keep donating money, but would never jump into a frozen lake! At least, probably not!

Then the grocery store, and I'm catching up here while taking a tiny break. Laundry is going and we'll try to do dishes....maybe.

Ok so they update on my moms friends is very sad. SHe passed away Sat night. But everyone is ok they woke her up one last time and said their goodbyes. Before she died she left written instructions that she didn't want a funeral were everyone was sad. She wants to be cremated and her DD and DSIL to go on a cruise and pour her into the sea. So they are going to have a service at the church and honor her wishes. At least she will be where she wanted to be. And she is not in anymore pain.:sad1:

non MAC users....what laptop would you recommend? I would primarily use it for the net, and work - which is excel based and net based....downloading pics, etc.

I use a Sony Vaio and I love it. I have a smaller one that is able to fit in my purse. That is a big pluse for me. :thumbsup2

Tyler's doing more cruise planning. ;) A few months ago, my mom gave him an old necklace she found in her donation bag that she bought for me on one of our trips to Mexico when I was a kid. I'm mad that she was giving it away because it's cute! Anyway, it's just fishline strung with clay pieces and a cute little burro in front. He asked me today if he could take that on the cruise and wear with his Mexican shirt for Mexican night. Then, in the car later, he said, "MOM! I just thought of something else I can take for Mexican night. My maracas!" Good idea! :thumbsup2

I'm here watching "Oliver!", DISing, and doing laundry.

Has he started back up w/ his countdown paper chain?

DH will be finding out that he is going on the cruise within the hour. Brent is coming over after church and doing the treasure hunt with him. PC cruise is the prize!
OH, what a great idea! Can't wait to hear your husband's reaction! :goodvibes

Not yet, but we've been pretty busy. I was going to ask him if he wants to do it now, but he just walked by me with an empty laundry basket, I asked what he was doing, and he said, "I decided to get the dirty clothes out of my room because my floor is COVERED in clothes!" :rotfl2: Well, it's true, but I'm shocked at his eagerness to clean today! I guess I'd better start another load of wash now! Off for a bit to help him clean! :thumbsup2

Quick question for anyone out there -- what is the deal with the Lanyards? I got an e-mail from Kelly wanting to know if I wanted to order -- couldn't find info about them.

Thanks
