I bleed frugal blood. I'm afraid that I would be so concerned about the huge amount extra it was costing that I would have a hard time enjoying it. I could just see myself saying, 'I spent 10k to have Palo delivered every night, how could they send me an overdone filet?' OK, nevermind, having Palo delivered everyday just boggles my frugal braincells.

I just got back from my work meeting. It went well - I did get an extra bonus, but not quite as big to cover the call I got today....

They called for Cat. 1!!!!

Arggg....I have until 5pm tomorrow. I just can't seem to figure this out - we wouldn't be able to pay it all outright, so that makes me think we should say no. But then I imagine being in that wonderful suite for 15 nights with my family.

I think this might give me some levage to make the cruise at least work - my bonus will cover our 2 cat 9's final payment. But still....

Cat. 1......arggg......think of the DIS parties!! I hope someone is still awake to talk me through this!!! Or waking up!
Lisa

Oh my gosh! Sooo initial reaction is ??? Yes you want the room but as of right now you can pay your nines in full. So what is the asking price on the category one? Also is that room cheaper on day one and go up or is it the same now you think as day one?

I am so bad about decisions like this! I usually equate the money to what I could buy with it. Such as ok I could spend another $5,000 to upgrade or I could buy 2 LVs from the cruise 2008 collection (love the rouge color, blue is pretty too) and a wallet and some shoes I have had my eye on.Or some new couches and a coffe table. Or $5000 buys another week of vacation elsewhere. Adventures by Disney has some great trips on there I have seen.

OR IT COULD BUY YOU TWO WEEKS IN THE WALT!!!!

I am nooo help..........So whatcha thinking? :goodvibes

Well, Lisa, all I can offer is what my mom always said at times like these: Fifty years from now, will you know the difference?

I remember the first time she said it to me--my brother had called and left a message that he & his long-time girlfriend had gone to Hawaii to get married and we were trying to decide if we should blow the money to fly over there, spur-of-the-moment, and be there for the wedding. In that case, the several hundred dollars (which was a big expense at that time, to be sure, for me anyway) I've never regretted spending. It was probably the first really big spontaneous thing I'd ever done in my life. Glad to say, it wasn't the last!

But I don't mean to imply that the answer is always "Go for it"! I don't know what your situation is. Sometimes the answer is that it would make a big difference (to the worse) to take the plunge. But often for me, the answer is that life is short and I would more likely regret passing up the opportunity than being glad I held back.

As Noel would say, just my thoughts...

Just read that to DH and he responded...makes you think. Gee, I wish I could figure this one out.

We are going to Tahoe over President's week and I called our ownership place and they are going to try to rent it. It is a lot per night ($1100) so if they can rent it, there is some more $$. But still, I know we coudl use that money for other things and events and vacations. If nothing else, maybe knowing we saved the money on Cat. 1 will make it easier to move forward with the cruise in general. Maybe that is why it is being available to us...because really we are very close to canceling given DH's work schedule and recent slow down. But if my bonus covers the cat. 9's, perhaps I should just focus on getting us on the ship. I don't know. I do wish we could be in the Cat. 1. It seems like such incredibly luck to have it offered. Is there anyone on board that wants it if we don't take it? Is Noel out there???

Wow! What a temptation! I'm not gonna be any help, I'd say hock whatever you have and grab it.....but your financial advisor would be unhappy with me.

I'm with Angie on this one!!! :thumbsup2

Good point...

Did you say you've already cruised in a Cat. 1 another time?

I'm sure someone would take it. Where is Karen? I bet it is not that much more than her Cat 2.

That's a tough one Lisa-I totally get where you're coming from. On the upside, what a wonderful, uncramped way for your family to spend 15 days on the magic...and what a memory! On the downside, being in a cat 1 would surely mean your expenses go up...not only the cabin price but tipping for the concierge help. On the flip side, there's something to be said for having the balance of your two cat 9s covered by your bonus.

Well, if you decide to go for it, I just hope you invite us in to visit just once! I would love to see it first hand. If you decide not to go for it, know we'll be in a cat 9 right there with y'all!

I was just about ready to shut 'er down and go to bed...now I've got to see how this ends!!!:lmao:

I need to go test DD and go to bed so I'm conscious for carpool duty, I can't tear myself away from the great Cat 1 debate!

I'm coming back after I brush my teeth, hope you make some progress on your decision...

Yes, we did in Jan 07. It was incredible. I was like crying the last day - it was so beautiful.

But then I think about when we moved back in 05. We had bought our new house, but it didn't close in time. We had already found renters for our old house. So we were basically homeless for about 10 days. We had everything in a moving van (I think 2) and went to live in the "Grand Hotel" on El Camino Real, which was anything but Grand. But our kids...they just loved it. They loved being in the small room together, loved sharing a bedroom. I don't know. I know Cat. 1 would be awesome and everything, and if I did have the money hanging around I would do it in a heart beat. But I guess I don't need that...it is just so hard as I had been on the waiting list since before the dates opened. Argg...Lisa

Thanks so much for all your input....the clock is ticking. We have to find someone on DIS that wants it though if I don't get it. I wonder if I can pass it along??? Lisa

OK but did I read you have done a category one before? If so I would be more tempted to pass. If it was a whole new experience I would do it. I think you would have just as much fun fully paid in full in nines as you would in 10K debt in the one. Instead of spending extra money now wait until your husbands business grows and he can relax with some real time off and then spend the money partying it up on one of the new Disney ships.

Well maybe you shouldn't do...if you were crying after the 7 days, they may need to pry you from it after 15 days! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Good point about the concierge, and of course we would have a party! We did in Jan 07 - it wasn't a big DIS cruise, but we had a tour. We will hopefully still be able to hit Karen up for a tour with her awesome Cat. 2. Good points...I'm leaning to Cat. 9. Going into debt just doesn't sound the right direction....I know, too much finanical information being shared but I sure appreciate all the advice. Lisa
