MAW TRIP = Can you stay in park for Extra Magic Hours

We are going on my son's Make A wish trip on January 28, 2011 - in less than 2 weeks. We are staying at GKTW. He was wondering if we can stay in the park for the Extra Magic Hours as a Wish Child even though we are not technically staying at a Disney Hote.

For Evening EMH anyone can stay, watch , and spend money. The only restriction is that you must have a Disney Resort ID to go on (or into) any attractions. And, who knows, but a GKTW GAC and button might allow you on (or into) an attaction. YMMV depending on the people working the attraction.

I wish I had known that. We would have loved to stay at the parks a little later and absorb the atmosphere! We were specifically told at GKTW that we did not qualify for EMH.

I find it hard to believe MAW families can't stay and enjoy extra magic hours. But I guess it is possible, but Disney tends to bend over backwards for MAW kids.

Many families would not even WANT to do early or stay late(my DD was too tired to go into the parks for more than 2-4 hours a day, even using a wheelchair). So it would not impact ride lines much at all.

At DL, we were given a phone number to call if we had any additional requests....... we were at PP, and one day we requested to pool hop at the Grand Californian pool....... they checked, and said they would leave us access key cards at the GC front desk......... (we walked over and only stayed about an hour). this seems like a similar type of request to the extra magic hours......

No unfortunatly you are not able to use the EMH. But with so much going on at GKTW you realy don't miss it. There is Princess/pirate party, a candy land party, horse riding, and a Christmas party where all of the kids get to pick a present and see santa. Plus you get to do so much with your special GAC pass that you I think we only waited in line at the most for 10 minutes. Most of the time it was less than 5. FYI- even though they say you can't get faster character meeting I actualy was told to go through the exit to see the characters by a cast members. There is a forum here called Wish Trippers United. Check it out. It is full of people who are going and have gone on Wish trips. We went in Sept. of 2009 and had a blast.

We just got back from our wish trip and MK DID allow us to say in the park and ride the rides for Extra Magic Hours on Sunday night. We stayed and watched wishes and the boys and my mom wanted to ride Big Thunder Mountain - MK Had the EXtra Hours. The CM said no problem. Maybe we were lucky as this CM had a twin brother who had been a wish child. He specifically told me that no one has ever told him yes or no with respect to allowing GKTW kids to stay - BUT he also said he and most others will never say no as they all want these kids to be happy. So they road that twice and then we did pirates one more time.

Also, the stores and main street are open late for anyone.

You are BACK!!! Welcome home. I am SOOO Happy you got some Pixie Dust and I hope there was a LOT more. Looking forward to reading all about it when you have the time!

I am guessing that a CM who (1) knows what MAW/GKTW is and (2) sees your MAW/GKTW badge will not stop you or look for a wristband or ask you for a room key during EMH.

We were able to use the EMH's during my son's MAW as we were put up at BC instead of GKTW as it was full at that time. It was AWESOME! I know of another family who was put up at AKL during the same time.
