Maui flight- booked!! Now where to stay????

Does anyone have any experience renting a condo at Kaanapali Shores? It seems pretty nice.
On VBRO I found quite a few of them.
Taking everyones advise and sticking with Kaanapali area.

My parents used to own there, back when it was run by Aston. I have no experience with Rentals, but it is a nice property. 2 pools, nice beach, restaurants, etc. They always remodeled the units every 5 years or so, so it was always looking great. It is up a bit from the main "strip" of hotels right in the main hotel area of Kaanapali, but you can still walk to quite a few other resorts, restaurants, and shops. There was also always plenty to do for kids....not as much as at the Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton, but I think you will enjoy having the extra space and kitchen. You can easily drive down and park at Whalers Village and do all the stuff in that area, and Lahaina as well.

We've stayed there twice in a penthouse condo and loved it! It is not as "ritzy" as some of the resorts, but my kids liked it better because they had more room to spread out. There are 2 pools, a restaurant and it is right on the beach. The grounds are really pretty and there is a small strip mall right across the street that has a grocery store and a small restaurant with really good food at a very reasonable (for Maui!) price. I think there is also a Subway in that strip mall. If you want pictures of the condo, or the link to the two places we've stayed, let me know.

It was roughly half of what you would spend in a resort hotel, and we found having the kitchen a real bonus for breakfast and lunch. We saved a lot of money that way, but then turned around and blew it all on some wonderful dinners. lol The few times we did have breakfast out it was a minimum of $75 for basically nothing. :scared1: We found that the kids were just as happy to have a quick bagel or bowl of cereal and be on their way to the beach or pool.

Thanks for all the responses!
We are going Apr. 28- May 6.
I have been checking many places out today.
The two hotels I am thinking about are the Hyatt Regency & the Grand Wailea. They seem to be equal on reviews.

Tomorrow I will be checking out condos.

**** A QUESTION ***** Do you think that kids (10 &13) would enjoy a hotel resort or be just as happy at a condo?

Thanks!!:flower3:

We loved the condo, particularly when it is within the area of the hotels. Best of both worlds. Room to spread out and near all the resorts. The Ka'anapali Alii is walking distance to the Whaler shopping area, Black Rock, etc.
