Ugh,DH has decided he wants a new mattress. Any tips on shopping for one? It's difficult to compare apples to apples because they rename them depending on what store they are selling them in! We do NOT want a full memory foam, nor do we want a sleep number. But any shopping tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!! I don't want to spend a small fortune, but don't want to buy a cheap mattress either!

We have gone to The Original Mattress Factory. They seem to have good stuff and they say all their mattresses can be flipped over. My current mattress is a pillow top from Furniture Fair and I hate it. My son's mattress came from Mattress Factory and my mom had one from there too. I have heard lots of good things.

We just bought our kids full sized beds (up from twin beds). Picked up Sealyham Posturepedic mattress sets from Costco for $350 per set after $50 instant rebate. They are firm mattresses and the kids love them. They have a nice Sterns & Foster queen set that I'm considering for our bed, but I can't lay on the mattress set to try them out first. The nice thing about Costco is that we could return them easily if we end up not liking the mattress. Costco quality is generally pretty good, as is their return policy and their mattress prices in the store can't be beat. They don't always have mattresses in the store, so you have to act fairly quickly if you want them.

We just finished mattress shopping and are awaiting delivery. My advise goto several mattress stores and lie down on the various mattresses and see what feels best. You need to spend several minutes on each side on each mattress. We spent about 1/2 a day at two stores.

In the end we decided we were done with spring coil mattress and went with memory foam. Motion isolation was the biggest issue as I toss and turn all night wake up DW.

We ended up purchasing an off brand mattress that listed the types and thickness foam used vs the name brands that did not. We spent about 1/3 of the cost of the name brand.

Behind car dealership, mattress shopping has to be the worst. It is difficult to compare apples to apples, material and often not known or displayed, and of course the price is always negotiable.

Boy, that is the truth. I also hear that mattresses are never ever really on sale. Just pick what feels good.

See if there is a Shifman mattress dealer near you. By far the most comfortable mattress I have ever owned.

as far as what one may like?? we have an Serta Icomfort that is a spring memory foam mix. We have had it for about a year and half and it is the most comfortable mattress we ever had still...
As far as prices-- they all charge about the same in the end for the name brands. JCP included all and there is no more sale prices I think still? Most of the time if you get the JCP card you will get a 20% discount which by far beats any place else... Check out the foam and Icomfort prices and compare as with those there is no name changes between all... then consider the 20% if they have it..
