Matterhorn..

If both are open, there's one line that feeds into both sides. You choose which side you want to ride on.

First you go in one line, and then the other.

Karen (tlinden) and I did this on Sunday. We got in for MM, and first we went on the Fantasyland side, then went on the Adventureland side. Since it was early the line really wasn't long at all. :sunny:

HMm.. I was just reading another post that talked about this.. sounds simple LOL

There is an entrance on the Fantasyland side of the mountain and to go on the other side of the mountain you use the Tomorrowland entrance.

The only way to ride both sides of the mountain that I know of is to ride one side then walk to the other entrance and ride the other side.

I haven't been in a lot of years... but I thought the other entrance was in Tomorrowland?

OooOoOoO Thanks :)

Yes, fantasyland side and tomorrowland side, but sometimes at night if it's slow they will close the fantasyland side and only have tomorrowland side open!

Yea, two sides as everyone is explaining. Sometimes you don't have a choice as they close down one side...my fav side is the tomorrow side :) And there IS a difference!

Even though I've been to DLR quite a few times in the last few years, I haven't been able to figure this out, and this thread isn't helping. Someone talk me through it like I'm a 3 year old. :)

Is the entrance to each side right as you get to the one structure? Same line, then you change right towards the end? If so, that's much more simple than I thought...I kept looking for two entirely different lines!

No, there are 2 different lines. One line is on the Tomorrowland side of the mountain, and the other is on the Fantasyland side.

There is one entrance to the Matterhorn Bobsleds. The one entrance branches to two tracks. The track to the left, on the Tomorrowland side, is a few seconds shorter, quicker, 'rockier', and has a dip. The track to the right, on the Fantasyland side, is a few seconds slower and smoother. The two tracks go up the mountain, and race down, sometimes side by side down the mountain.

The line winds from the entrance around the mountain on both sides. If you want the faster ride, then go to the Tomorrowland side & get in line, and if you want the smoother ride then go to the Fantasyland side & get in line. On slower days and in the morning only one side is open, typically there is only one line, usually on the Tomorrowland side. When you get to the entrance you can normally choose either side to ride.

Here is a pic of the entrance so you can see where you enter the ride - either to the left or to the right.

Here is a video showing both sides of the Matterhorn.

For the record I've seen two different things with Matterhorn:

1) 2 separate lines. 1 line going along the TL side of the mountain across from the Nemo lagoon and 1 line going along the FL side of the mountain across from Alice. They meet at the south side of the mountain (by Pixie Hollow) if they ever get that long.

2) 1 line going along the TL side of the mountain which then splits into two lines once it gets to the overhang part.

Oh, interesting! I've only seen #1.

This is our experience. We've seen it both ways. We prefer the FL side so if there is 1 line from TL we go to the FL side to ride. :)

We tend to hit the far (TL side. On your left if you're facing the entrances) side most often. It feels a bit more roller coaster-like, with the other side feeling a little more tame. I remember waaaay back in the day we'd get there first thing in the morning (or maybe it was during a Magic Morning . . . can't remember.) split our party in 2 and 'race' a couple times before the crowds caught up and the lines started forming.

p.s. Years of VERY unscientific study of line movement throughout Disneyland, I've noticed if a line splits most people tend to stick to the right hand side. Therefore if you go left, the wait can be a bit shorter. This doesn't seem to apply to the Matterhorn, though. Seems like that right/FL side often has a shorter line, especially at night towards closing time.

Probably because most people are local's, and most people prefer the Tomorrowland side. A few weeks ago while there, after the split, it was a walk-on to the Fantasyland side, and a about ~5 minute wait for the Tomorrowland side.

Needless to say, we waited the five minutes. :)

Hmmm, not sure I agree with either conclusion. I don't know that I would say "most people are locals." It's an endless debate, but I think it truly depends on the day and the time as to whether there are more locals or out-of-towners. I definitely think that if there are long lines, most are NOT locals.

As for "most people prefer the Tomorrowland side," count me as a local who likes the Fantasyland side.
