Here's an interesting article about the Matterhorn refurb.

From today's OC Register:

i'm really excited to see the new cars - but in a way I'm kind of sad because I'm pretty sure my DD would go on the ride if she could sit on my "lap" (in the old style cars) but I'm not sure she'll do it on her own in her own seat. She'll have just turned 4 when we go.

I'm in the same boat as you, DharmaLou. My little one will have been 4 for not quite a month when we're down there.

Wow, great article!

I was just wondering: did the popularity of Expedition Everest in WDW cause this major refurbishment? In other words, did Imagineers feel they needed to keep this mountain up to the same standards as a new mountain? Just crossed my mind...

Hey, I was there in 8/78...had no idea the sleds had changed, but I can remember those sleds from the pic in the story.

If EE was the inspiration for this refurb, let us all hope that they get more inspiration and FIX THE DAMN YETI in EE.

That was a really cool article and video! I went to DL twice when I was a kid but for some reason never rode the Matterhorn. This year will be my first time, I'm glad I'll get to see it all refurbished and with the new bobsleds, which look nice!

I going the week before the official re-opening, I'm praying for a soft opening. What are the chances?

I'm bummed for my DD5 and DS3, but mostly for DD5. She loves that ride so much and now she won't be able to ride it for awhile because she's only at 40 inches.:( DS3 is only 38", but he doesn't talk about it as much as my DD.

We haven't been riding double, so it makes sense to change it to singe-riders.

This will be open when we go next month! YAY!
