Matterhorn for 3.5 year old?

I haven't been on this since I was a kid. He loved Barnstormer at DisneyWorld (similar to Gadget Go Coaster I think?). Is it much scarier than either of those?

my kids don't care for the ride much (DS 9 and DD 4) because of HENRY and his growls and loud noises.

DS still plugs his ears most of the ride (he isn't super brave), which makes riding with him terrible as I always have this fear he is going to break is nose or something since he isn't holding on and it is such a "rough" ride.

DD (4) went on everything this trip that she was tall enough for except Splash (the screaming she could hear prevented us from convincing her). She LOVED Space Mtn and Thunder Mtn. but only reluctantly went on the Matterhorn with us after her first ride when she knew what to expect.

go to youtube.com and search for matterhorn disneyland and have your kids watch it. And watch there reaction. My 3 year old thinks it looks fun but the 6 year old is creeped out.

Took my daughter on it last February (she was 6 at the time). She came off in tears! The big monster scared her, but it's also a very bumpy ride. She's not very daring....with the darkness, abominable snowman and bumps...I'll probably have a hard time ever getting her on it again. For that matter, she won't ever try Haunted Mansion.

Another person chiming in about the monster. I think the ride would be fine for youngsters if it weren't for that monster! I took a 4 year old on it and she hated it! She loves Screamin's and Space, yet couldn't deal with the Matterhorn.

We took our oldest on last summer when she was 2.5 and she did ok. This past trip she wouldn't go on it. We took our 2 year old this past trip and she loved it. But she's our daredevil. It would really depend on the temperament of your child. Our oldest is pretty timid, our youngest, not at all.

I tell my kids that it is just a Bumble in there and he is trying to ask you what flavor snow cone you want.

the dd2.5. doesn't particulary like it but knows that the ds5.5 and ds 9 won't gon on tea cups unless she goes on the matterhorn. So it is a give take thing. She preffers to go with my DBF the most..

We went on it with our almost-three-year-old and he was fine. Preparing them for the "scary" parts is important. We pretended to try to scare him!

I don't thing Barnstormer and the Matterhorn compare at all - dd (3 at the time) totally freaked about the monster on Matterhorn, but loved Barnstormer at 4 yrs old. If it weren't for that darn monster................

I actually heard one mother tell her little girl that they'd see Bumble, the abominable snowman up there. She said you remember Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer...well, remember his friend Bumble, the monster who put the star on the Christmas tree...he's growling in there because he has a toothache, and he's just waiting for Hermey to pull it out. She also told her daughter to just growl back at him because that's what Rudolph and Hermey would do. Anyway, the little girl was laughing when she got out of the bodsled.

You are the only one who knows how your child may react.
It's fast, extremely bumpy and jerky, and has some dark areas (though very short) and of course, the "monster."
I would never take my 3.5yr old. It scared the daylights out of my 5.5yr old that begged to go on it.
I personally think kids under 5 shouldn't go on it but that's just ME

We took my daughter on it at 26 months and she did not like it. That same trip she went on Barnstormer/Go Coaster about, oh, 400 times. So it's not the ride, but than darn monster! We told her he was just a snowman but she didn't buy it. We're going back next month and I'm going to try to get her to give it another shot with me (last time I was pregnant so she rode with Daddy, who is not the best with scary stuff). She's 3.5yo now so maybe she'll be okay with it.

My DD4 likes all other rides, but doesn't care for the Matterhorn. The reason she doesn't like it is because it's too bumpy. The monster doesn't scare her at all. But the reason is she has a picture of my dad (her Papa) and the monster from the 1970's. He used to work for Disney as an electrical engineer and he made the monster move. But I do like the Bumble story .
