MATS SAT test- has your child participated?

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this program? My son's middle school participates, and he is going to be taking the MATS SAT in January.

My son took the SAT on Dec 3 in the John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth talent search. http://www.cty.jhu.edu/

We just got his scores today. He didn't score the 1200 minimum for acceptance (600 math + 600 verbal), but he did darn good for a middle schooler.

In fact, when I explained his scores to him, I let him know that he's comparable to some h.s. seniors hoping to get into college next fall.

We handled this as a no pressure excercise. Just a "try it out" "see what it's like" experience. Now, hopefully, when it really counts in a few years, he'll be calm and confident.

Now that they have the new SAT's, does anyone know what is considered a good score. I know that if you got every question right it would be a 2400, but what score range is considered good.

I'm hoping that we have the same experience as well, but I don't want him to get overwhelmed and shut down... make silly mistakes because he is so nervous. I know i am more worried about it than he is!

i want him to do well, and I hope that he does as well as I know he can.

IIRC, the scoring ranges are as follows:
200 - 800 Math
200 - 800 Reading
200 - 800 Writing

Opinions on a "good" score will vary. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it takes 600 math + 600 reading for a middle schooler to get into the Hopkins program.

That same 1200 total would also get most high schoolers into some very respectable universities. One could extrapolate that an 1800 on the new scoring (math + reading + writing) is very good as well.
