We went to see The Matrix Reloaded last night at a 10pm special showing. DH and I loved the original Matrix and were really looking forward to Reloaded. Well, I have to say I was disapointed. I liked the original MUCH better. Some parts were very good but overall I think I would give it a 6/10. And WHAT is up with the cheesy fake CGI in movies lately?

I agree with PatriciaH. I though the movie was a huge disappointment. I was actually kind of sad after seeing it because I thought it could have been so much better. I never thought they should make a sequel, but they did. I will go see the one in the fall because I hope they can pull it together again.

I also hate the terrible cgi in movies nowadays. It was very apparent in the fight right after Neo spoke with the oracle, the fight with Agent Smith. There was more, but that is what sticks out.

Well, it's a fantasy movie. How else can you show a future that we don't know without coming up with things that could possibly be plausible, no matter how far fetched they may seem today... I can't imagine how they could have done the agent Smith(s) fight without CGI.

I suppose to each his own - I liked the CGI but I understand there can be others that may not like it...

dh and ds (14) absolutely loved it but DS said the CGI really, really, really bugged him!!!!!!!!

Yes, we will still see Revolutions. I'm hoping it wraps everything up. The agent Smith fight secene is EXACTLY what I was talking about with the CGI looking fake. He (Neo) looks like a cartoon, stretched out, thin and the colors are off. The same thing happened in Spiderman when he is jumping from roof to roof and Attack of the Clones when Anaken is riding on the creatures back. I do not agree that it has to look fake because it is a fantasy. All the other SFX in those movies rock, why stick in something that makes you go -uggg-awful. Only PARTS of the Smith fight scene look fake. The flying scenes with Neo look great and of course that is fake:)

i agree -- 6/10. we saw it last night and weren't very impressed.

jfulcer, I wasn't saying that all CGI is bad. I respect any movie that utilizes CGI; it has given film makers whole new opportunities. I was mainly upset with the fact that it was poorly done in that particular scene, which ParticiaH did an excellent job of describing.
To be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with CGI. I feel movies depend too heavily on it when there are traditional methods they can use to create the same effect. I feel they did need the CGI in the Smith scene, but I feel it could have been done much better. It almost looked like they hadn't actually finished it, that it needed more work. Parts of the scene were devoid of any real detail. Of course, that is just my opinion, and my opinion is often harsh where CGI is concerned.

damo, I saw that your 14 year-old went to the movie - why is it rated R? My 14 year-old really wants to go tonight and I don't want to be unhip but I also don't know that much about the movie and didn't see the first one.

Thanks for your help!

The violence is really not bad. Some video games are worse:) There is a sex scene between Neo and Trinity but not too much is shown (naked backs and butts.) There is a dance scene in Zion and you can see through a lot of shirts.

VelvetGloves what did you think of Gollum in Two Towers? I was really amazed how real they could get him to look where others failed.

To each his own I guess. I gave it a 10/10. Thought it was awesome, I really only noticed 2 parts in the fight scene with Agent Smith where it was a little fake but thats to be expected IMO. I'm actually going back to see it tonight. Did anyone stay after the credits? They show a trailer for Matrix Revolutions too. :)

When I saw it the second time, I felt that inside the Matrix was really missing the film noir feel it had in the first one, but I still enjoyed it.

Thanks PatriciaH - I guess the fact that I don't know about these movies certifies me as completely unhip!

We missed it.:(

DS11 and I saw it yesterday. We're going to see again in 3 weeks when it goes to the Imax theatre. We both gave it 10/10.

I thought Reloaded was somewhere in between awesome and stinker.

I really liked the Matrix (first one) better. I liked the music more than Reloaded and the special effects seemed better to me. I didn't appreciate the relationship between Neo and Trinity, seemed to detract from the story. I don't know, it seemed like Matrix was such a special movie that my expectations were so high. I am glad I saw Reloaded, and will go see it again (IMAX hopefully), because I know I missed a lot of stuff (went on Wed night after gettin up a 5am that day for work, yawn).

Wouldn't it be great if they re-did Matrix for IMAX!

Oh yeah, I thought Agent Smith was great in Reloaded. What a hoot!

PatriciaH, I was amazed at how well done Gollum was in the Two Towers. I think the realism stemmed from the fact that they used motion capture; it made his movements much more organic.

I stayed and saw the trailer at the end of Matrix Reloaded. Always stay for the credits if you can. First of all, they have been tacking more and more stuff on at the end. Secondly, it's kind of like a curtain call...you wouldn't leave a theater production before they do the curtain call....just my humble opinion.

Jeff, I also thought the feeling inside the matrix was gone. It didn't feel quite as special....
