Matching shirts...cute or dumb?

Cute for children under 10. Ridiculous otherwise.

I think they're both cute and dumb LOL.
...
That said - 8 of us are going in July and and they made me promise we wouldn't do shirts this time. It was a one time only thing.

Since you asked, I think it's dumb. I didn't enjoy being dressed like my sister (and neither did she) when we were younger. I vowed never to do it to my kids. We're a family that will change clothes if we end up in similar colors. :)

Nope, not into matching, not since the 70's when it was the rage. ... Best to leave matching to the children, and they might bawk at the thought.

ehhh i think they look kinda... funny. i wouldnt be caught dead matching the rest of my family (not that anyone in my family wants matching shirts to begin with.)

Do I care when other people do it? No Do I like it when other people do it? Yes I think it's cute.

But it's just not my style.

These are not people pinpointing your family specifically. They seem to be saying that while it might work for other families, it isn't something that they like or would do themselves. No need to take differing opinions so personally. If someone doesn't agree with your opinion, it's probably because they don't like the idea.

If you feel comfortable doing it, then fine, go ahead. Not everybody is going to think it's the cutest and most unique thing a family has ever done, while other will think it's the most single precious thing they've ever seen.

yes - I agree only at Disney. Sometimes me and Dd have same shirt and DH and Ds have same. I made great Haunted Mansion one last year with a picture of the stretching room - lady with umbrella on the front. I was at Bibbity with DD and 5 nieces and while in the waiting area a little girl said to me.." I like your shirt" I was thrilled and gave her one of those tinkerbell to share pins...her mom was like - no you don't have to give her a pin! I said that the first person that was non cm that said something about my shirt I would give my pin too and I did. Made the little girls day and made mine too.

Also a few years ago we went around Halloween and I made DH a shirt with a Mickey head made out of pumpkins - while walking into Epcot a lady asked my DH where he bought the shirt he told her his wife made it... I then asked her for her address and I mailed her out the iron-on of it. She gave my son a pin from her lanyard as she saw his pins and to this day we talk about the lady who gave him the CODFish pin.

I think it's a great conversation starter in lines too. I have walked up to strangers and said " I like your shirt" and recognise that they get them off the Dis design board...............makes it a small world:goodvibes

ARE THESE TWIRLY SHIRTS the ones using TAPE and then spray paint??????????
What type tape and what type paint exactly????????
TIA![/QUOTE

I made the swirly shirts.(I am the OP's sister) I cannot take credit for the design, as I got the idea from another diser.

I used blue painters tape cut into thin strips. Taped them where I wanted them and then sprayed on the red first (on the outer edge)then the black second(inner edge).

I got the spray paint from Michaels, where the T shirt making materials are. They are pump spray bottles. Make sure to get some cardboard to put the shirt onto for painting, so the paint doesnt go to the back of the shirt.

And.. dont spray inside the house. I did that and forgot that some of the paint may fall onto the floor! ooppss.

Those of you who have do matching shirts, where do you get them printed from? I know a lot of people print them and iron tehm on themselves, but I don't want to go that route. Has anyone ever had anyone else (professional) print them for you? Who did you use?
I had most of our clothes specially made for our trip last December. There are a number of people on Ebay who specifically sew custom Disney outfits. Just put custom Disney in the search box. There are all different themes and price ranges. I went a little crazy for our Christmas trip. I spent more on the children's wardrobe than we spent on the entire rest of the trip! But I was thrilled with the clothes and we got tons and tons of compliments. The Princesses especially fawned over the girls outfits. It was great fun and we got many priceless pictures.

Our kids will have one day matching colors...they will also have numbers on the back so we can tell which ones are ours.:lmao:

On the other days the kids have matching clothing but not all the same...Like on a day where we wear blue, they all have blue on.

My boyfriend and I went for our 5 year anniversary and my 21st birthday this last year ( to Disneyland actually) and we decided to wear matching shirts. He thought it was the cutest thing ever, as long as he got to choose the colors :rotfl: Anniversary one, we wore blue shirts. For my birthday, I think it was green or brown. Not sure, but I'm thinking brown because I remember wearing a brown hat haha. Now, my mom is planning a trip for us to go to Disney World in August. I'm so desperately trying to convince her to wear matching shirts. Especially considering shes like a kid and wanders off in her own direction without telling anyone, we are bound to lose her :lmao: Seriously though, I think its awesome!

I prefer the more subtle approach-all disney themed apparell but never identical.

Thats what we did!

ie one day we all wore our ringer t shirt, from the disney store, but we all had our own character.

one day my mum wore "sally" my bro wore "tow mater" and my son wore "lightening"

my ds has a mickey, my dd a minnie.

On our next trip, ds has a wall*e with lots of wall*es across the shirt, and my dd has a white with "I <3 Wall*E" on it.

we all think it is fun, and we get to play up our own personality

that said, I would have no problem with a generic matching shirt. :O) and would wear it too!

the only thing that bugs me: Even tho we are on vacation, I STILL have to :laundy:when we get back!

I really do like the idea of matching shirts, but have ABSOLUTELY NO creative skills in any way, shape or form. I did purchase some Tink shirts from the Disney Store on sale ($2.99 for the ringer tees).

However, my mother loves to sew so I'm hoping to enlist her to make a few sets of shirts for the girls. I was thinking of brightly colored cotton tee shirts with a Mickey head (I think I can do a pattern for the three circles .... hopefully) and then customize them for different parks or resorts:

  • Mickey head and a brightly colored tropical flower by one ear (we're staying at CBR)
  • Mickey head with a princess crown (for princess breakfast)
  • Mickey head made out of animal print (for AK)
  • I'm stumped what to do for DHS ......

Any place I can go for more ideas or patterns? Thanks!

There is a massive continuous thread dedicated to this subject over on the Disney for Families Board. They have hundreds of designs over there. Here's the link:

We don't do matching shirts (though I think they look great on a family), but we often dress in coordinating colors one day so that we can take lots of family pictures.

Our family also does matching shirts for at least one day out of our 2 week stays. I'll try and dig up some pics of them.:thumbsup2

I'm 18, and although my mom, dad and sister wouldn't be caught dead in a matching shirt, i love it! I think its really cute.

Honestly, it depends. Sometimes it is cute. I like the one's on the first page. They aren't over the top or anything, very age appropriate for everyone. Also dressing children alike is always adorable. When you try to dress the 14 year old like the 6 year old it's looks silly because most of the time (from what I have seen) the cloths are geared more for the younger ones.

Some people...try...too hard. They try to make it functional by making the shirts some disgusting neon green or yellow color with a Mickey silhouette in the front with Walt Disney World in inside of it. Sorry...that's more tacky than cute. btw, neon blue, is ok, because it's not obnoxious. Neon orange is very borderline, but it's acceptable. Neon Green is tacky, no ifs ands or buts. Do not even try to defent that heinous color.

If your doing it, buy them. If you are artistically inclined, make one some are really creative and nice (looking through this thread I saw lots that I really liked!!!). If you ever consider neon green, don't bother making one, it's just plain tacky.

Lime Green is kinda the "Un-Official" DIS color! There is a thread about it on the CB. They use it as a way to spot other DIS'ers in WDW. Just like using the lime green mickey heads!! If you see someone in lime green, it's a good chance they DIS!!!!

Isn't neon green the official color on the DIS? Let's not hate on the lime green please, because yes I own one of those neon green disboards shirts. :thumbsup2

One day the "girls" wore matching shirts ( same style - different colors ) - the next day the "men" wore same shirts.

I could handle that.

Yes! Lime Green is the official color of the Disboards! They even have their own abbreviation LGMH (Lime Green Mickey Heads). You will find many threads on the Themepark Boards and the Dis Family Boards about searching out other Disers and looking for LGMGs.
