Matching shirts...cute or dumb?

When we went last year, I made up matching t-shirts for myself, dh, and our two boys (they're eight years apart, 5 and 13 at the time). We got a lot of comments when we wore our lime green shirts (with a simple black Mickey head on each one) at Epcot. CMs commented on it, as did a fellow Disboarder.

This year, we'll be taking my mil and her dh with us. I haven't started yet, but since most of us are older, I'm thinking of going with matching polos with a small graphic on them.

I like keeping the boys matched when we're at theme parks. Even though we take their pictures every morning to document what they're wearing if they get lost, I'd probably panic and not be able to fumble with my camera. I know I can at least manage to say, "He's wearing the same outfit as my other son here."

My husband's motto for wearing matching shirts (one example below) is "What happens in Disney stays in Disney!" ;)

I'm the one that packs so when we get to Disney I put the outfits out each day that the family wears...my husband laugh our first trip but when he saw the pictures in our scrapbooks he thought it was a great idea. My son is still young so he doesn't care.

I REALLY like the first shirts out of your 2 pics. The second ones are very cute, but DH would never wear that :rotfl: Did you make them or buy them? We will be doing matching shirts this August.

My sister made the swirl ones and we bought the minnie ones. Out of five days, we matched for two. It was fun and it did make it easier to identify our group! I'll have to broach the subject with DH once he knows we are going...I still have not officially told him about the Feb trip his step mom and I are planning!

My husband will wear matching shirts with me but not my teen DD. On our last trip, I had ordered Disney polos with our names and favorite characters on them. We all had different colors, but they did match in style and theme.
Anyway, we're in Chef Mickey's eating breakfast, when this guy comes over to our table and says to my DH, "Aren't you Bill H.?" My DH says um, yeah, not having any clue as to who this guy was. It turns out this guy is his COUSIN who he hadn't seen since they were kids! The cousin sort of recognized his face, but the clincher was the "Bill" written on his polo shirt so he thought he'd give it a shot. We are from Rhode Island and the cousin from New Jersey so to meet in Chef Mickey's was pretty cool.
So yes, matching shirts DO get noticed!

Ok, my wife has made our family of four matching shirts for each of our past three trips and I will say, I was not keen on it at first. However, I like it and I feel this way...my kids will only be kids once, who cares what people think, I am there to have a good time with "my" family and it makes for some good pictures. Plus, it gets you noticed by the cast members. I cannot tell you the number of magic moments my kids experienced during YOMD and also this past May during our trip (I thought YOMD was over, but they told me they are still doing Magical Moments). This year she handmade and embroidered 8 different sets of four shirts. Maybe some of you were there and saw them.

1. Traditional Mickey Ears on red shirts for me and son, and Minnie with bow on the girls.
2. Mickey Ear globe for AK.
3. Disco Mickey Ears for dance party at DHS.
4. Mickey topiary for Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.
5. "When you Wish" with a star for First Day of trip.
6. Mickey Ear Chocolate Bar with dripping ice cream.
7. Dr. Doofensmirtz from Phenias and Ferb holding a Fast Pass and thinking in his tone "The Line Eliminator-inator"
8. Celebrate with Mickey shaped balloons.

So, from a male perspective, I am ok with it. Many of my friends tease me, but I don't care. My kids love it.
I love your awesome attitude, twindad2!

ehhh i think they look kinda... funny. i wouldnt be caught dead matching the rest of my family (not that anyone in my family wants matching shirts to begin with.)

but i do understand the functionality of it. :confused3

We do theme shirts not matching ones. We got picked for family of the day at EPCOT last Christmas and I think it is becasue we were all themed. We got to go behind the rope before rope drop. The characters came out and we had about 5 minutes with them to take pictures. Then we were seated into a Test Track vehicle and driven to the ride to be the first ones of the day. It was so much fun and I think our shirts caught the eye of the CM that morning. DH was Goofy, I was Donald, DS6 was Mickey and DS5 was Pluto. Each character stood by the matching shirt in the pictures.

Any chance you would share or get her to share how to make them? They are so much cooler than the ones I was planning on making!

We love to match!

The matching shirts, fall into the same category as the fannie pack.

WDW is the only place you can wear either.

We wear matching shirts once a trip, DH doesn't balk. I try to pick out something I know he'll like.

We did polo style shirts this year and they came out great, we each picked our favorite character and the girls put their names underneath, DH did not. We made them on the Disney website. Too cute.

DH likes his so much he has actually worn it several times outside of WDW.

I love the matching outfits! Everybody looks so cute when they do this in the parks. Unfortunately my DH doesn't think so...:sad2:

I think they're both cute and dumb LOL.

A few years ago our extended family of 10 all had matching shirts made and we wore them on the airplane that first morning for arrival. It was fun, none of the guys complained much, and when we got to Contemporary we all had our picture taken on the metal Mickey Ears. It's a great picture, one we all treasure.

That said - 8 of us are going in July and and they made me promise we wouldn't do shirts this time. It was a one time only thing.

OMG I just said the same thing to my DH. Disney is the only place I don't feel like a "geek" while wearing my fanny pack.

I always make a couple of matching shirts for us each trip. One for our annual trip w/ my cousin and her family. And the other for our DD's b-day. My DH has no problem w/ them at all. I've made the tie dyed Mickey ones before and he still wears it.

She used tape and fabric spray paint. make the swirls with the tape on the shirt, then spray paint your colors. Remove tape and the swirls are still white (or whatever colro shirt you use). She used red and black spray paint, but the red didn't get as dark as she had hoped. You could do red shirts with black spray paint!?
