I really want to try the Master Cleanse diet to "re-start" my body, and I'm wondering in anyone here has ever tried it. How is it - is it really hard? When you finish the 10 days, and start eating again, to you just put the weight back on? Not that I'm just doing it for weight loss, just wondering.

Any thoughts are appreciated! :flower3:

You can skip the cleansing and go straight to the healthy eating and exercise.:thumbsup2

I would keep a food journal for 10 days instead. It will help you more in the long run.

Has your body "stopped"? I don't know what the Master Cleanse program is but I would bet you a million dollars it is designed to fatten the wallets of those who sell it and not much else.

Dr. Oz did some studies on the cleansing craze.

He said it doesn't help or hurt you and could see it as a psychological thing for people that are trying to get off caffeine, sugar, etc...A way to break that cold turkey.

Oh, thanks - it sounded like that colon cleanse commercial I see all the time with the guy with the creepy Satanic eyebrows and hair...:rotfl:

Btw, I always wondered about that so when I had a colonoscopy recently I weighed myself the day before the "light eating" day and the morning of the procedure. 2 1/2 pounds total. Drats - I was letting myself think at least 20 of my "extra" pounds" were due to ...well, you know!! No such luck, sadly.

:lmao: Oh I know. My colonoscopy was 3 yrs ago and I am due again this year.

Basically you are losing water weight. Which people have a buildup of because 'some of us' eat too much sugar and salt.:rolleyes1

I run 3+ miles a day, and play 3-6 hours a tennis a week, and stick to a healthy diet every day - I think I know about all that. This is a cleanse to get all the impurities out of your body that diet and exercise can't do. I'm looking for answers from people who have done it, not that don't know anything about it.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Maybe you should read thise article.

It's not something I would do. There are less drastic ways to lose weight and feel better. No one, including the originator of the diet, Stanley Burroughs, has been able to prove that the diet removes any more toxins from your body than your organs already do. Believing that becoming dizzy or getting headaches because your body is "healing" is just plain lunacy, if you ask me. Those symptoms come from not providing your body with the nutrients it needs. Anyone who drinks what is primarily water, with limited caloric intake, is bound to lose weight.

It's not something I would do, but go for it, if you want.

It is a load then.:lmao: If you already are living a healthy lifestyle then you don't need a cleanse.

All that stuff are products that make money for people.

Just to inform you, the whole diet consists of lemons, water, pepper and a tea laxative (or something like that) so I don't think its really fattening anyone wallets.... other than maybe the lemon sellers - they ain't cheap! I could buy the book, but wanted to do some research first before I may "waste" the money.

Does that sound healthy to you? Of course it is not "healthy".

You already have a healthy system in place, do not mess with that.

Well, at least you would not have scurvy. ;)

Anyway, since the poster is asking for others to do his or her research, I toddled over to Amazon and found this (lemons, maple syrup, etc you buy as a kit):

http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Glickma...ef=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1236269732&sr=8-2

and here is the book:

In each instance people who have read the book or purchased the kit give their opinions.

If you are buying a book, you are fattening someone's wallet. I am thinking that this could very well be some person who is laughing at all of the people who buy the book while they cash their royalty checks...

I have never done the master cleanse, so I can't help you too much. You sound like you are a healthy person, it doesn't sound like you need anything drastic. I would just do a less intense cleanse with some herbs, essential oils & probiotics for a couple of days. If you have a good health store near you they could probably help you with the info. You could do a colonic irrigation too. I have never gone but my sister has, (I'm too much of a wimp) but it's supposed to be very "cleansing"!:thumbsup2

Honestly, tennisgirl, if you are making the kinds of healthy choices about your diet and exercise that you say you are, then you can't be dumb. And if you aren't dumb, you must SURELY know that that there is no such thing as "impurities" that the normal functioning of a healthy human body cannot manage.

Neither diet, nor exercise, nor "cleanses" will remove impurities, no matter what you are eating and drinking. Not lemons, not salad, not cheeseburgers. The BODY and its system of organs, etc. has a system in place to remove impurities, and it works beautifully. If it didn't you would be unable to sustain the activities of your daily life. DON'T fall for this hype - it's ridiculous.

I've done it and didn't really feel 'cleansed' but I did lose a few pounds.

If you are interested you can print the book from this site. Its not very large.

I did this cleanse many years ago. I watched an interview of Robin Quivers (2001?). It sounded interesting to me and I wanted to try it so I did.

There are a lot of online journals from people while they do this cleanse. Results are very varied from person to person. Some stay on it 10 days some less and others much longer.

I broke this cleanse after 8 days. At no point in time did I 'love' that lemonade! I read that so many times I figured I would too. I think that played the biggest part of ending it early. I was also unable to do the saline wash or should I say unwilling after the second attempt.

I didn't do it for diet reasons but I did lose crazy weight. Temporary of course and half returns with your first sip of OJ.

So for me anyway this isn't something I would be repeating. If you decide to go for it I would love to hear how you find it!

It isn't a lifestyle change. For most its just 10 days! Good luck. :)

The only time I ever did anything like this was to prepare for surgery almost 2 years ago. Dr. wanted me completely empty to minimize the possibility of complications afterwards. Mine was basically jello and water for 2-3 days ahead of surgery and an ensure shake for desert.

I think ppl who do these things just to do them are nuts. I was unbelievably hungry waiting for surgery. It was ridiculous. I'm constantly amamzed that when i was allowed to resume a regualr diet after surgery that i did not go on a binge. You seem to have a better system than me going, and the body is self cleaning on the inside through your organs. Please rethink your thoughts on this diet.
