As a reminder, this is DISboards policy re: COVID discussions

Policy on COVID discussions

The global COVID pandemic created unprecedented restrictions, disruptions and changes to our travel, work, shopping, schooling, social interactions and so many other aspects of our lives since the beginning of 2020. We’ve all been affected, and we have been inundated with news, information, mis-information, frustrations and opinions. We’ve heard them, we’ve shared them, we’ve argued about them.

The discussions, debates and arguments about the virus, distancing and masking policies, various politicians’ statements and actions have been overwhelming and divisive. Many threads on the DISboards have been derailed or devolved into arguments due to this topic. We understand the passion, but feel that we’ve let the discussions run their course. We are sure there are better places on the WWW to learn about and debate scientific, medical and political issues. The mission of the DISboards is to be a great travel resource and a friendly community.

Now that travel is opening up again, it’s time to refocus on that mission!

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

We will NOT welcome debate or opinion about medical, scientific, or political aspects of the pandemic. There are a few often repeated trigger items that won’t be allowed: No statistics about infection rates, no ranting about individual rights, no “face-diaper” comments, no debate about whether vaccinations or masking are effective, no discussions about which governor or politician or news personality did or said what.

In summary: COVID related discussion should be limited to actual policy and practical application, and NOT veer into opinion or debate.

We understand that you may be passionate in your opinions on this topic and want to discuss or debate them, and appreciate your understanding that there are more appropriate places than the DISboards to do that.

Thank you,
DISboards Administrators

we saw people wearing it on their elbow...that seems pretty disgusting. It's 95, you're going to be sweating into it all day long. Our kids had lanyards.
Never thought a lanyard for a mask would be standard when going out, but it has been!! It's worked great for us, though. Glad the vaccines are allowing us to move on and get closer to normal again.

I'm thinking the same thing. My little (6yo) is going to be bummed if she still has to wear them when mom and dad don't. We may be wearing them so she doesn't feel left out.
My kids are 6 and 8. While they understand that vaccinated people can go without, I choose to wear mine in solidarity until they can be vaccinated as well.

I'm over here just waiting to see how this plays out. In my neck of the woods, the change to this type of policy meant that no one wore masks anymore. Vaccinated, probably not vaccinated (we are only at 40% locally, so...), and kids clearly too young to be vaccinated. I arrive 2 days after this policy change goes into effect. I have 3 kids too young to be vaccinated. I'll be watching for reports on what this really looks like on the ground.
I think you can assume most ppl will not be wearing masks like you have seen.

Haven’t they had problems with scheduling these things in the future. If they think it is a good idea, why is it a good idea starting in 4 days but not today. It doesn’t require me to go buy something so I need them to prepare.

Probably to give people time to cancel if they wish. There are people who are comfortable with no masks outdoors, but are uncomfortable with no masks indoors.

I’ll be there 6/19 with two kids under 12 who are not vaccinated. They aren’t required to wear masks are they?

I'm so stoked to hear this - the 15th is our first park day! I wasn't looking forward to that outdoor standby line for SDD.

Technically, yes, since the optional part only applies to vaccinated people. However, it doesn't sound like there will be any enforcement.
Right. First how can you tell if a child is 12 or 11 of maybe even 10. And now there are trials for kids under 12 so those kids could be. The policy means masks are optional. Stop over analyzing ppl.

Hopefully they will revise the policy to say optional for vaccinated guests and guests under the age of 12.

Based on recent reports from the "Here Now & Just Back" thread of coughing kids being everywhere in the parks, I'm not sure I'd want any kiddos I cared about to be maskless around that. It's not exactly cold and flu season, KWIM?
