Masks optional at WDW starting 6/15/21

I don't understand. Are you being sarcastic? Blowing your nose anywhere, including in a dining area, is perfectly acceptable social etiquette. What would be unacceptable or uncouth would be constantly sniffling or having snot run down your face onto yourself/table/food.
Just go to the restroom for a minute. I don't want your snot flying all over the restaurant.

At this point, today 6-13-2021, where are you supposed to wear a mask at Disney?

I am here today at Magic Kingdom, it feels like they increased capacity to maybe 50%? It definitely feels more like a normal day especially with the mask optional rule. Like it is crowded! A heck of a lot more crowded than April and even a bit more than last week at MK.

There is no enforcement of masks for anyone including children. You can wear masks if you want, but nobody will question you at all if you’re not. We are choosing to wear masks indoors, some others are too, but the vast majority are not. No judgement or anything occurring with people wearing masks or not, everything really feels more like normal! And now with Fireworks back starting July 1st, it won’t be long before we stop asking when things are coming back!

How about on the monorails/skyliner/buses where masks are still required? How’s the compliance there and is it being addressed if not compliant?

I’d say 100 percent compliance on transportation, though I imagine on Skyliner with no other family people are removing them. I was in Mouse gear at Epcot with easily 100 people and maybe 3 masks.

I haven’t taken any transportation today, I walked to MK from Bay Lake Tower :) However I did see a picture of the bus and saw it was full like pre-pandemic with people standing but everyone was wearing a mask.

Kind of a crazy day today with thunderstorms causing power outages to a lot of rides, with the crowds it made lines really long at the rides that were still open. Waited over 45 mins for Voyage of the Little Mermaid lol.

Yikes!. I wonder on days like that you could ask for a refund. The other day like 12 rides were down.. I cant imagine being happy with no rides up and the few that are legit longest lines in years.

I couldn't agree more. I don't understand the criticism of Disney for (finally) dropping mask mandates, when almost every other company and government entity already has. Disney is a for-profit business - what do people expect from them?
What does being a for profit business have to do with anything? Most days park passes are not available with masks and won't be available without masks. Masks don't stop them from making money. Social distancing does in some cases especially restaurants.

I’m an AP holder, so I don’t think I can ask for a refund, but maybe if you bought tickets they would give you a complimentary 1-day pass. I actually have a complimentary 1-day Hollywood Studios pass from being on RoTR near closing when it broke down, it isn’t transferrable and since I’m an AP I can’t use it lol. But I’m just happy to be here :)

I am so glad they took down the plexiglass barriers on the RoTR ride vehicles too, they made for a very poor experience on one of the best rides.

Still undecided on the mask thing especially with unvaccinated children, it is wonderful to not have to wear a mask outside in the heat and I think it makes sense, but like others it is an adjustment period to going back to being in line close to other people indoors without a mask, but you can still choose to wear a mask indoors. Pick a mask that helps protect you like a KF94, KN95, N95, etc and you would be protected better than no mask or a cloth or regular paper mask. It isn’t perfect but I think this is a good compromise to still go.

We need to get back to normal though, this is a huge step back there.
My wife and I are vaccinated but our 9 year cannot. We have decided to go and like you said just have her wear a KN95 mask. We went to a local amusement park this weekend and did that and she has been fine so far. There are some risks but there has to be some point to rip off the band aid.

I see it as a different side of the same coin. Everyone who hated masks complained than folks who didn't mind said "either wear it or don't go" and now "if you need everyone to masks up don't go". Every family has a different situation. I wish everyone the best of vacations be it soon or in the future when things are right for your family.

There were never any Covid cases, outbreaks or deaths linked directly to Disney World previously.......

That might depend on the level of contact tracing in your area...My kids' school had a small outbreak directly tied to WDW travel - some students returned from a cheering competition. Some followed out-of-state travel quarantine protocols and some didn't and it spread in the school/community. It wasn't our largest outbreak and it's not like it made the news or anything...

This is keeping us out of Florida completely until Covid-19 is under control or dies down a lot more.

Anyways...

My next trip isn't until September and then another in November. Does anybody feel that we need to take masks just "in case" Disney springs a mask requirement on us with little warning? They wouldn't do that... right??

I would see what the policies are like closer to that time. I would probably bring some disposables just in case, but with how it is looking now, I don't think you will need them.
