Mask or Duffy @ Epcot Kidcot?

My son is 6 and he loves his Duffy on a stick and carries his Duffy stuffed bear everywhere. But he is not your neurotypical 6 year old. His Duffy is dressed in Gator football attire!

Awww. After many trips we finally got around to letting DD do the Kidcot mask last year. She LOVED it. It's something we were really looking forward to doing again. She especially liked the charms from each country. She actually made two complete masks over the course of our last trip. I don't think Duffy on a stick is going to be nearly as much fun, but I won't say anything for now. We'll wait and see what DD thinks. I am bummed though. :sad2:

Duffy tanked with my then 6 and 4 YO girls. (one turned 7 during the trip and one turns 5 tomorrow) I posted this today because while looking for a project for them I pulled out the unfinished duffy'd from last trip - and the DID NOT want to finish them - I could not believe this, they love to do anything coloring/markers, but NOT duffy, Looks like I have to pull out some old masks from the previous trip .. :( what a bummer

Thanks for the pictures! Duffy on a stick is to childish looking for my 11 yr old son who loved going to the countries. One of the reasons is so he could make the mask in different boyish designs (camo, american flag, bloody etc,) He is going to be crushed. Both of my kids loved it so much they liked to do the countries twice.

Thanks for the photo, pinkerbell! Good to know what to expect. My kids love, love, love the masks, even DD13 loves to be artistic with them. We have them from every trip and they love to see their own progression with how they decorate/color them. The Duffy Bear is a cute concept, but they should have a choice...mask or Duffy, in my opinion. Even Duffy would be ok if they still had the charms from each country to attach to him.

I KNOW my kids will be disappointed! I am for them.

And Bumbershoot, my DD saves up her money to buy a Pooh each trip too! She has a big collection of them and she will of course be adopting another Pooh this upcoming trip. Sorry Duffy!

I preferred the mask myself. DS8 took his first Duffy on a sticky and turned him into scary Duffy! Red eyes and the whole bit. It was funny and slightly disturbing as well. :rotfl:

:rotfl:This is what DGrD(7) and some of the older kids were doing while waiting to see Santa @ US Kidcot!! She always LOVED the masks - added different colors and designs in each country - loved getting the little paper charms put on - we have so many from our trips. She said Duffy was too hard to color with the markers - you lost the lines - and it seems the other kids too were bored with him, so they started giving him spiked hair - red eyes - just making him crazy to entertain themselves (and maybe to not appear too babyish with a bear). She LOVED Duffy himself - has a Duffy bear that she carried around with her dressed as Santa and slept with the whole trip - but the Duffy on a stick activity was a dud for her. PLEASE bring back the masks (or something as creative)!!!

it really does seem that Disney has ignored a huge population with duffy. Even my girls who I would think would bein the target range, didnt like him.
It was such a nice break for the kids and us.. they could color, we could shop.... It just isnt the same without the charms too! come on Disney = bring back the masks!! :goodvibes

Oh no - there goes our drink and shop around the world while the girls color their masks around the world plan that has always worked so well.... Disney is going to be losing parental money on this one...

Just so you know, one of us DOES sit with the girls while they color - and we color too - even though the above didn't exactly sound that way :)

Have they changed the stamps to have Duffy too? Does that mean that kids getting passports stamped have a Duffy stamp now?

My suggestion is to send emails to Disney and let them know how it went over with your kids. Those masks are a blast to do though.

Have they changed the stamps to have Duffy too?

I looked at the Germany stamp on my Duffy-on-a-stick and it does feature Duffy wearing a Tyrolean hat.

OMG!! I hadn't even noticed that MOST of the stamps are now Duffy NOT mickey mouse, wearing various hats... that is just wrong.. duffy is trying to squeeze out Mickey Mouse??? We were there when they changed over so I bet that by now all the stamps are Duffy-

What a marketing tool, the kids that do like them walk around waving little billboards advertising Duffy. The meet and greet line for Duffy had about four people in the line when we were there for Christmas trip this year. We did not like the Duffy and wanted the masks they used to have, which seem to fit better with the countries in Epcot. I started to get a duffy and print letters on it that said "just say no to Duffy" and then walk around Epcot waving it around.

my son enjoyed getting a Duffy at each country (the stick has a different stamp)...he colored a few when we stop at each country but I let him finished coloring while we ate are meals and it worked out great for our family. He has them now at home and using them as puppet (he likes learning about the different countries where he got the duffy). When we went in the past he was too young to do the mask so he actually enjoyed collecting the duffy's

DD LOVED Duffy on a stick. In fact, we had to literally drag her away from every kidcot.

She is younger than most of the kids mentioned thus far, so that may have been the difference.

I'm actually looking forward to the Duffy on a stick and appreciate a little variation from the masks. But NO MORE CHARMS?? :sad2: I'm not happy about that....

There's kind of a trend going on with Disney management to skew so young that they're targeting a specific demographic of those with very young children. Saw this with the Fantasyland expansion, where much of the space was going to be taken up with "play and greets" with princesses. I think they may be going back on some of that now. They may also be looking at Duffy's popularity in Japan with teens and adult women, although Americans are not as into teddy bears as the Japanese are. If you like teddy bears you will adore Duffy. If you're ambivalent about them it may seem kind of annoying that one is taking over Epcot.
