Went to a local diner this morning. The sign is still up saying masks are required to enter the restaurant.

Of course, half the people walking in were not wearing masks because "we are vaccinated". The hostess had a look of bewilderment in her eyes. I felt sorry for her.

I think we need to continue to respect the requests of the local businesses.

Of course. But it's up to the business on whether they want to enforce their own rules. Anyone who thought people would still mask when requested, I have a BUNCH of bridges to sell you.

Oh, I think this is the end of masks for sure. But I do hope people at lease try to respect private businesses that prefer you wear one.

Disney is still mandating you wear one outside. I wonder if people will still abide?

I was under the impression that it was up to the Governor of each state to decide when the mask mandate is lifted, no matter what anyone 'higher up' says. Our state (MD) still requires masks for indoor places.
Not really. Our Governor never issued a mask mandate. But the Mayor of a nearby large city did, and our county bows to whatever they do and implements the same. So we have had a mandate since last May and it continues today.

That said, I've been very supportive of the mask mandate up to this point. But the time has come for it to end. Hopefully soon.

I’ve complied with official requirements to the letter. It’s a long way off here (sometimes it actually feels impossible) but the minute the official mask mandates are dropped I’m done with masks. I’ll probably choose not to patronize businesses that continue to request them.

Private property. Anyone wishing to enter needs to follow the rules established by that business...or don't use it. It's not outdoor public space. I'm vaccinated and ready to ditch the mask, but I'll still respect the wishes of a private business.

If they want their rules enforced, then they need to enforce them. But most businesses are not willing to risk losing customers, especially when at a restaurant people are only going to wear them for the 10-15 feet of walking from the door to the table before they take them off at the table anyway.

I do agree with this principle but a request is not a requirement unless the business is prepared to enforce it.

Yes, there will be people who continue to mask (see @disneychrista's post). But there will definitely be people who say "screw it" now. Heck, they were around before. Anyone who expected different should have their heads examined.

Our mayor instituted a mandate, but all surrounding towns/suburbs/cities did not have a mandate...so guess what, we all went to those businesses to shop/eat/spend money. Needless to say, theres no more mask mandates in our state any longer. Unfortunately the businesses still requiring masks appear to be struggling because people are going to go to the businesses that don't require one over the ones that do.
Even the ones with signs still up "requiring masks" do not enforce it.

I am interested in what my county says today at their press conference regarding masks. I am totally expecting to see less and less masked people. The problem is it won’t only be vaccinated people who are maskless. I am still 5 days from being “fully vaccinated.”

I am all for ditching the masks but this is going to be so difficult for store owners.

When the state had a mandate in place, you at least had the excuse that it wasn’t your choice and everyone entering your business had to wear one. Now (in many states) governors are leaving it up to each individual business.
each business has to decide which group to alienate. I would’t want to have to make that decision.

I was reading something yesterday about "how can they do away with masks when the vaccine isn't available to those under 12 yet?" That's an interesting point.

While I do understand that everyone is fed up wearing masks, I think everything is very confusing right now.
This morning on The Today Show, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that children over 2 years old do indeed need to continue to wear a mask. It was strange. Imagine explaining to a 2 year old they have to wear a mask, but mommy doesn't?

Walensky then went on to say maybe parents still might want to wear masks to model for their children what they need to do since they can't have the vaccine.

I have a feeling a lot of kids just aren't going to be wearing masks.

Its an easy choice. You let your employees decide if they want to wear one, or you simply require your employees to if that is what you believe in...But you give the paying customers the choice to make up their own mind.

I disagree. I think businesses are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If the business owner leaves it up to an employee if they were a mask or not you risk alienating people who won’t come into your business without everyone wearing masks.

if you as a business owner requires masks and the business door doesn’t, your risk everyone going to his business who doesn’t want to wear a mask.
