Mask Confusion Already

The impatience is understandable but I’m fully prepared to not to jump the gun during this transition. Things are moving quickly now. I’d love to turn my masks into potpourri sachets but I’m okay waiting for businesses to make readjustment decisions.

NJ, along with some nearby states, already slated to drop many restrictions on May 19th and significantly increase gathering sizes. Virus numbers are crashing down (tho deaths have been slower to react). I’m still going to abide by individual business decisions. They need time to process all the info released this week and figure out how they want to move forward. Even the state itself said they need time to digest the new CDC info.

A guideline provided by America's top scientists, and backed by the President of the United States. I wonder what these governors know that the scientists don't know? Very interesting.

I think governors will look at their state's positivity rate and decide what they need to do.

Went to a local diner this morning. The sign is still up saying masks are required to enter the restaurant.

Of course, half the people walking in were not wearing masks because "we are vaccinated". The hostess had a look of bewilderment in her eyes. I felt sorry for her.

I think we need to continue to respect the requests of the local businesses.

I am shocked they lifted mask recommendations. Sure keep borders closed but let everyone on the inside toss masks aside. As we all know there are many who are not fully vaccinated by circumstance and choice and will simply not wear masks even if they are not at that recommended level of immunity. Wanna bet in a week we see zero masks and what is the vaccination rate? wont match. I know the US is very well ahead with vaccinations, but honestly the way this virus spreads, no where near the "herd" levels needed. Especially seeing kids under 12 are still vunerable.


Weeks ago the CDC literaly said "doom" if we are not careful and rush and within 6 weeks the world has changed? intersting..

CDC says wear masks. People start an uproar that they don’t want to wear masks and others say “follow the science. The CDC says so.”

CDC says masks not required. People start getting happy and others say “it’s too soon.”

What happened to following the science?

The problem right now is that it is only for fully vaccinated persons. We ALL know that non-vaccinated persons will also stop wearing masks. If we were at the point where they could say NO ONE needs to wear masks I’d have no issues.

I hadn’t heard about Hershey, that is great news!!
I still disagree and think it’s a hard decision for businesses to decide what to do.
All you have to do is read comments here or on any social media comment section and some people are still petrified of their own shadows. There are tons of vaccinated people that will not enter a business unless masks are mandated for everyone.
I am fully vaccinated , If there were 2 similar businesses in my area, I would choose the business that doesn’t require masks.

Yes I’m seeing this too. But most of those on my feed are people who are petrified of covid but also don’t want to get the vaccine so they want masks around forever. Ummm no. The vaccine is available for everyone. You can get a same day appt in my area or just walk in. At this point if you refuse to get the vaccine it’s on you.

I have really noticed a decrease in mask wearing in the past two weeks. We haven't had a mask mandate in our county (it's by county, not by state here), for a couple of months, but most people comply when it's a business requesting it. I feel like if the business is requesting it (and their employees are wearing them), you should follow their request. But the same people who screamed that the government can't tell them what to do, don't seem to care about what local and/or chains (the businesses they claimed to care so much about being shut down during the pandemic) wishes are. This is just the mentality of most people around here anyway.

I was at a school function last night -- our kids still have to wear masks in school (although there was a huge uptick in exemptions for "religious reasons", etc. in the past month) and a week ago at a similar function, 80-90% of parents were wearing masks; last night, about 60-70%. So, from my perspective, in my area, forget it, people aren't going to be wearing masks much longer despite anyone's wishes/rules. I will still continue to do what businesses request, but like it or not, people are done.

Lol. They do sort of suck. All smiles. BIG NEWS! Pandemic over for vaccinated people. Hooray! Without really giving the details on what to do with a 3 year old that still has to wear a mask.

So now we are going to have Children of the Masks. Literally, only kids will be wearing one because they are the only ones we truly know if they are vaccinated or not.

I just want people to respect businesses and not make a poor 19 year old hostess be the gatekeeper (which I know is the fault of the business, but man! It upset me).

If you are t getting the vaccine the CDC says you still need to wear a mask. You are the reason governors will keep mask mandates, because people like you will lie about being vaccinated, spread covid, and then schools close, businesses close, it’s 2020 all over again. Wear a mask in public or get vaccinated, you’re not special.

I’m vaccinated but I’m not showing my card To get into a bar. I’ll go elsewhere.

This bar is in my area. It's having no issues with customers and there's usually waiting list to enter as we are still at capacity restrictions (can't remember what those are though).

Places aren't going to start asking who is vaxxed, right? DeSantis made a big stink of the "vaccine passport" thing, for one example. So I think businesses and churches and offices are probably going to continue requiring masks so unvaxxed people don't go around without masks on and lie about being vaxxed.

I’ve complied with official requirements to the letter. It’s a long way off here (sometimes it actually feels impossible) but the minute the official mask mandates are dropped I’m done with masks. I’ll probably choose not to patronize businesses that continue to request them.

Sure ...that's the idea. And some will continue to support the businesses irregardless. Some others will only support the businesses that will still require them. Like Disney -for now....

Yes but we are not the ones being hospitalized. I got vaccinated in spite of having natural immunity from having covid, and I still wear a mask in public. I’m not worried about getting covid, that’s actually the least of my worries. My state is now in yellow for the first time, my kids are actually in school 5 mornings a week. An increase in cases will cause all of us to lose more freedom, and we have the unvaccinated and non mask wearers to blame. Maybe you are fine with another shutdown, I’m not.

Our state's mask mandate was lifted, but there are still places that require it. A local restaurant just lifted their mandate, but the large grocery store chain didn't. I wear the mask when required and don't when it's not. I don't ever wear it outside unless I am at Disney World. Our schools don't require them for outdoor sports participants or spectators. They don't make the requirement that you be vaccinated.

Unvaccinated people have been not wearing masks.

I know plenty of people who are afraid of covid and the vaccine so they’re unvaccinated and will continue to wear masks for a very long time. So I don’t think it’ll be an unvaxed anti mask free for all.

And now they are relying on the very scientific "honor system" for mask wearing. It's weird and gives me a bad feeling about the CDC. But, again, they are America's top scientists, so who am I to question them?

I "trust the science" of vaccinated people going without masks. I DON'T trust a portion of the unvaccinated to keep their masks on.

And, masks don't bug me much...so, I will probably wear it longer until I see how this plays out.
