Mary Kay Cosmetics

Dan, my suggestion is to take all of the advice you are receiving here very seriously. Make sure you and your wife do a lot of research before jumping in. Much of her success will depend upon the support (or lack thereof) of her director. If your wife doesn't place the suggested $3K offer.....watch how fast her director will fade away.

I would also suggest taking a look at the pink truth web site. There really is a lot of good info there, as there are very upset woman who feel like they were deceived by lies told to them by their directors.

Lastly, think twice, three or four times about it. I've always worked full time and have also tried my hand at MK, Longaberger, The Body Shop, and now BeautiControl. I finally had to realize that I am a much better buyer than I am a seller. I stay relatively active with Longaberger and BC to support my own habit and the habits of a few close friends and relatives. I do not do shows or spas as it cuts into my already precious family time.

Good luck to you and your wife.

My good friend sold it and hated it.. She always had to buy stuff she really didn't need just to make quotas.. Plus she was told you are mandated a certain amount of parties each year.. as well as a specific Sales goal..

As for me... I sell Avon.. and Honestly.. I LOVE it.. Only costs $15 to sign up AND there is nothing really mandatory unless you want to be an Advanced Leader.. Plus our products cost alot less...

:thumbsup2

I also sell avon, and love it. There is something for everyone in the family. It is no longer for little blue haired ladies. I only sell on the side as 2nd money maker.

I sold it years ago. It was easy to sell and basically sold itself. I hated the parties though.

I remember hearing from the lady over me that one could sell easy if you went ahead and bought in to have inventory. However, she did not recommend it and we all did the swapping thing.

I bought in for the $100. and then spent a little more money for a small inventory.
My advice would be DO NOT spend $3000. Just DO NOT. It only really benefits that lady over her.
One of the things that I did not like about MK was how often the packaging changed. I had just gotten a lot of clients into a refillable compact and 'tada'
they changed the packaging and everything! So, my clients would need old makeup.

There are a lot of used, almost new starter kits selling on eBay. That might also indicate how (not) successful people have been in selling.

Living in large metropolitan cities, I have a unique perspective in that the only people I've ever run into who love Mary Kay cosmetics are the ones actually selling the products. Do they love it so they start selling it? Or do they sell it and have to love it? :scratchin

You know that saying "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me." Well that was me with Mary Kay. I tried it about 14 years ago and soon realized I was not made out to be a salesperson. FF to right after my son was born and I was desperate to find something that would allow me to stay home with him and make money. I called my old director up got resigned. I even went to the big thing in Dallas. Biggest mistake of my life. After those 3 or 4 days I realized this was not something I wanted to be involved in. They used God in a way that I did not like and I tell ya I'm not one that gets offended easily :rotfl: Unless you're willing to do some serious lying and backstabbing you will not get ahead, guaranteed.

Tell your wife to check out www.wahm.com, great site to find a work at home job in fact where I found mine! Good luck talking her out of it they really know how to sucker people in!

I love Mary Kay and use it - HOWEVER - I buy what I want when I want and will not be pressured to buy more and believe me - I am pressured.

I second, or third, selling Avon. I used to sell it (don't know why I stopped I uess too many little ones and not enough time) and after research I thought that it was the wayto go. Avon has many first class products (especially skin cream) and it is only 15.00 to start. The best is no parties and you never have to stock up on product. You purchase your own supplies l(ike catalogs) but you do not pay for the items until someone orders them..and pay you. It usualy sells itself and althoughthere are tons of reps, there are many people out in the cold when their reps quit and are looking for a rep. If she is not successful she is out very little money. At worst she will geta discount on her own products. When I sold it, towards the end, I did it very little. I got a discount on all my items, made enough to cover my own products and ended up with about 100.00 in my pocket, every month. I do remember when I was gung ho..I made and extra 300+ a month.
