Mary Kate Olsen in hospital for illness

There was a picture I saw of her somewhere in a backless dress, and you could see all of her bones. It was absolutely disgusting. I'm so glad she finally admitted that she had a problem, and is getting some help.

It's very sad. Ashley also seems like she's getting too thin. The pressure to be thin in the entertainment business is so infuriating. Why can't actors/actresses look like "real" people? Why must everyone be pencil thin?:(

IMO - both of them seem to look like "lolly-pops"...thin bodies with large heads.

I think they would both look better with some meat on their bones...

I don't even see what the thrill is in them...besides being twins...I don't particulary find them beautiful...who cares?

(millions of men want to smack me upside the head now don't they?)

Okay, in that pic at the CNN link, is that ridge down her back her spine?!?!!?! Or is it a lock of hair? If it's her spine, then WOW.

HOWEVER - in her defense...I have a VERY bony back...but I'm not where near as thin as she is...all my weight is between my knees (thunder thighs) and waist (love handles).

Awful sad. I hope for the very best for her.

My daughters have been their fan since they were born. They own every movie they've made and even have their calendar each year.

They both are good people. I hope she can fight this awful sickness!

The road of recovery is a very long and a very difficult one. In fact, much like an alcoholic, you will always have an eating disorder. It's easy to slip back, it's easy to start seeing a "morphed" image of yourself, it's easy to start obsessing about those couple of pounds. So sad to see people suffer with this disease.

I've been saying this for a year now. Mary-Kate and Ashely are naturally tiny people, you must keep in mind that they're only between 5'1 and 5'2. All through high school I only weighed 103 pounds and I was 5'1, I was quite tiny.

However, Mary-Kate this past year has been getting thinner and thinner. Yes, Ashely is thin, but her bones aren't popping out. They've been trying to dress Mary-Kate in looser clothing lately to hide her weight loss, just look at recent pictures. She just isn't healthy...but it must be hard growing up and knowing nothing but hollywood and the importance of appearance stressed since you were a little girl.

I am tiny, too---5'0" and 90 pounds. The most I weighed was 110, then I had bacterial meningitis when I was 15 and went down to 80 pounds. Now I can't get past 90 pounds. My doctor says my weight is fine since I am short and have small bones, and I feel pretty comfortable with myself and the way I look. People always call me tiny, but in no way am I skin and bones. I think we need to give those girls a break about their tininess; and if one of them does have an eating disorder, I'll pray for her.

:wave2:

it doesn't surprise me any at all. but more than that i don't care at all. i have not liked them since after full house and that is the only way i can tolerate them. they are way too over-rated and need to go away for awhile. i agree with stinkerbelle. they do look like lolly-pops and are not pretty in any way. but thats me... so flame away i know it is coming.

ITA, I was a little surprised to read that they expect her to be in the treatment facility for only about a month. If she really is dealing with anorexia - that would be one quick fix.
I hope the pressure to get back out doing promotions and such does not prohibit her from getting the proper treatment.
I'm thinking they could easily live the rest of their lives VERY comfortably without ever working again.
I hope she takes the time to get the help she needs.

Gee thanks! ;)

It is really sad to see her like that. I saw pictures of her at their movie premier and she looked downright scary. I felt sick looking at her. If she had came to my party I would have given her a piece of their birthday cake!

I saw her getting her star and she was wearing a purple dress. I commented to DD that she looked way too skinny to be healthy. I hope she does well recovering. I was 5'4" in HS and weighed 98 lbs and never looked like that so I can't imagine how little she must weigh!

I don't think anyone will get flamed for not liking MK and A.

At one time, I was skinny like that too, up till I hit 30! After I had my kids I weighed in at 92 pounds, on a 5ft 3 inch frame it was NOT a pretty signt! I still have those Pictures. When I met my present DH's Mom, she said: "You are too thin, I can count your rib bones, you need to gain weight...." Well, I did, and when I would see her as the years passed on, I would say to her: "Happy Ma, I gained some weight..." And she would say: "I didn't want you to gain THAT much!!" :p ;) All kidding aside, I am hoping she recovers, like the girl from that other show, can't remember her name right now, but she too, was Bulimic or Anorexic, and she has since recovered and has a kid or two.:o

It makes me so sick to my stomach! POOR GIRL!!!!!:sad2:

I heard a later report that her family has been very concerned about her for some time. Her father finally arranged through a therapist to do an intervention and get her into treatment. They had to do it prior to her turning 18 (when she could have refused to be admitted). She was in the center for her 18th birthday. As with an alcoholic admitting the problem is a big step. Hopefully, she has done this and can start getting better.
