Good point!salmoneous said:Never tried it, no real interest. But I strongly believe we need less goverment and more liberty. Unless something poses a serious risk to society in total, get the goverment out of the business of telling people how to live their lives.

Beer smells like it's rotting, and it sells like nobody's business! It must be an acquired taste (and smell).Annam26 said:I find hard to believe that something that has such revolting smell would be so popular.
I'm glad that YOU had the sense to walk away and that it didn't entice you to harder drugs; however, one person does not define all of society. The sad fact is that alcohol, cigarettes, and pot -- things that are considered "acceptable" drugs by many -- DO lead many people into harder drugs.Sylvester McBean said:I spent a lot of time in college totally baked. I have friends and their wives that still smoke pot. I haven't in a couple of years, it's lost it's appeal. but it's no 'gateway' drug. alcohol has inspired me to make the worst choices in my life, not pot. the first time I tried pot was when I was drunk. I still drink a few beers, but I was able to walk away from some of the recreational drugs altogether. but no, I don't think it should be legal.

I really want some Doritos right now
Well, we are all making guesses as to what would happen IF pot were legal. What we can say FOR CERTAIN is what's going on with alcohol. Though they are not the same thing, they both deal with addictive behavior. It's not a completely fair argument, but I'll throw it out . . .eclectics said:I think you are either predisposed to want more and better, stronger drugs or you aren't. I believe it's a very small amount of the total people who smoke or have smoked pot. Some of us have addictive tendencies and some of us don't. Also I suspect a large number of those who use pot as a gateway drug are pre legal age teenagers who are always looking for the next thrill and sadly become addicted to heroin, meth, etc. I don't believe it's anywhere close enough in numbers to warrant the term "many" however. Again, I think a 21 year old is mature enough to decide if they want to smoke pot or not, should it become legal.

There's no question that we have more than "a small amount" of alcoholics in our world today. I can't even count how many friends and co-workers of mine are either alcoholics, recovering alcoholics, or children/wives/family members of alcoholics.
Then, we're not doing a good job of keeping alcohol out of the hands of under-age people, so why would we imagine we could keep pot out of the hands of minors?
Well, we already are Fat and laid back, why not screw up the country more by making a race of fat marijuana smoking bums? We'd be a society of very fat, very happy, laid back individuals
