Well leaving csr resort today. We r sitting at bus stop waiting to go to beach club character breakfast. My dh was just asking cm about marvel purchase. He told dh that universal studios contract will run out in approx 3 years on these characters and then disney will build a new park based on them!!!!! Whoo hoo! Now! I also know that cast members don't always share factual information but a 5th park would b awesome! We LOVE disney!!!!!

Well, I wouldn't put too much stock in what a random CM told you at the bus stop.

Disney will probably make more money via licensing rights. They will probably just allow Universal Studios/IOA keep all of the Marvel stuff and pay Disney each year for licensing rights. That way, Disney doesn't have to pay for any of the advertising of the rides/park and they don't have to invest any more money in new rides based on Marvel characters. I think that Disney will allow Marvel to be Universal's thing and just collect money for licensing rights.

They may put some characters in the parks (such as Hollywood Studios). I could see them putting some characters in the power rangers area of DHS or placing a few stores in the parks that sell Marvel merchandise. But as for creating an entirely new park based upon that, I highly doubt it.

From the article it looks like Disneyland will get some MARVELous makeovers soon...................

Bottom line it means more $$ for Disney..................

That poll is hysterical!!! Love it...:rotfl2:

LOVED this one.............

The Hobgoblin lobs an exploding jack o' lantern into the middle of "it's a small world," sending those singing children sky high.

:lmao: :thumbsup2

We could only wish!!!!!

But then of course if you take into consideration this article as well as the renegotiations when the current character licenses between Marvel and Universal expire I think that Disney may have two new gates in the Orlando area, one of which will be called Islands of Adventure but I'm not sure what they will call the other.

Since this is just a rumor with no official word from Disney, I'm going to move it over to our rumor board.

Nopers, as was stated before Universal is renting the characters and Universal OWNS the rides as well as the park, Disney did NOT buy the parks..

Where did you get the idea that Disney would buy IOA? I don't think anything is going to happen with Spielberg that would mean closing either park.

I don't think Disney's gonna bother to get back any of the theme park rights from Universal. Since Universal's right are only "east of the mississippi" they MIGHT build something Marvel-esque somewhere else, but I doubt it.

I can't really picture Marvel characters/property being adapted into a Disney-style park. I'd love it, but I can't picture it. And I certainly can't picture any successful integration with standard Disney IP. Except maybe in video games. "Kingdom Hearts, now with Spiderman!"

Disney'll develop the mechandising, slowly buy back the film contracts for the characters that are under loan, and tuck the division neatly away into the folds of their vest.

Some nice animation would be nice, but even that's dubious.

I've heard for years that Disney will not build a 5th gate in Florida until they can draw new vacationers to the area and not just increase the number of places current customers can go during a 5-7 day vacation.

This is the game changer. There are many older fan boys out there with families that may not be that into Disney stuff. If there was a well done Marvel Characters theme park in Florida that just happened to be run by Disney they may be inclined to go and spend some vacation dollars. And while they are there why not let the kids go check out the Magic Kingdom, etc. Throw in a themed hotel and you've got a guarantee (should we stay in the X-mansion, Avengers mansion, 4 Freedoms Plaza or Tony Stark house section?)

This could truly bring NEW people into the vacation market in Orlando and get Disney's attendance to expand rather than just shift among their current parks. The Marvel section of IOA is just not big enough to do this currently.

Universal's's contract is limited to IOA only. I read/heard on the news that as long as the rides remain operational (except rehabs) that the contract is perpetual.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Universal's rights to use the Marvel characters at theme parks is exclusive east of the Mississippi River. It's not clear whether they're referring to the 4 Marvel characters currently being used or whether the rights are for all Marvel characters. But supposedly the rights are indeed perpetual meaning Disney can't end it and also meaning Disney can't use them at Walt Disney World but could use them at their other parks.

It sounds like Universal has the right to continue using the characters as long as they want; but I'm wondering if Marvel (ie. Disney) has the option of raising the licensing fees at some point in the future. If so they might just jack up the fees so high that Universal will be forced to relinquish them.

Contract particulars show that US maintains control of the "Marvel" rides unless the ride is shut down. Not shut down for maintenance for example.....but closed. If they shutter a ride and decide to bring it back later....that's a NO NO and they will be paying $$ to Disney. Right now....no $$$ to Disney for US rides.
