GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!! How was your holiday? I had a wonderful time yesterday. I did my walk in 2 sections yesterday. I walked some on the treadmill and I walked the other half a few hours later. My DH nad I walked down to the town's park to watch the fireworks. Oh my gosh! This is the 2nd year that we have seen the fireworks here in Happy Valley (how's that for a quaint little town's name?) As the name denotes- we live in a valley. Fireworks are legal here in Oregon- even big fireworks! Our home is on a hill in the valley and last year we could see fireworks all over- even the town's fireworks- for miles around. But this year, because I needed to get in more of a walk, we decided to walk to the park to see the town's fireworks up close and personal. Well- it was quite a treat. The official fireworks didn't start until about 10pm. But as my DH and I sat and chatted here we saw a constant burrage of noise nad color going off around us. Now, of course, we could see all that last year too, but this year was a different perspective. Sitting in that park you were literally surrounded, as if you were in the middle of a big circle, by the fireworks of the people of Happy Valley! It was beautiful; and worth very bit of effort it took to walk down and then up the hill to get to our home. Quite a sight!

Today is my day off. Good luck everyone with your workouts!

ASHLEY............ I tried to send you a PM, but your box is full girly! Please- would you go and clean your room!!!

Good afternoon all,

I am very pleased to report that the 5 K I walked in yesterday went very well. I had set a goal of doing it at a 16 minute pace. Well I had a time of 47minutes, 32 seconds. That turns ou to be about a 15.5 pace! Well to say I was pleased would be an under statement! I was trying to get myself ready to accept not making my goal but still have a positive attitude. First it was hot. 82 at the start. Thankfully not as humid as it can be in CT in July bit still hot! Then I guess I didn't get warmed up well enough because for the first half mile my shins were on fire! I guess it didn't help that the first half of the course was mostly uphill. But when I got to the 1 mile marker my legs were feeling good and I had a time of just over 15 minutes. When I got to mile 2 I was at 30.48. At that point I knew I could make my goal. The rest of the course was flat or down hill but at that point the heat was getting to me. Anyway I finished at 47.32! Now my next goal is to see if I can do a 5k at a 15 minute pace. That will be on 7/16/04. This week will be hard. I will be on vacation Wed. - Sun; but I am committed to keep in training. Good luck all with the upcomming week. I know I will need it!

Terry

Hi all!

Disney was hot and humid as expected, but we had very little rain until we boarded the plane home on Friday evening. The parks were crowded. We did enight on the 30th and it wasn't bad at all. The only wait was for Peter Pan, partially because Philharmagic kept dumping out large numbers that just shuffled nextdoor.

I did get 2 runs in while there and did fine. My long run yesterday was tough though. A 9 miler, which I've done twice with no problem, and it was brutal! I think too little sleep and bad food choices caught up with me.

Terry: Great job!! :thewave: You can stick with it this week. Because if you don't, we'll find out! :duck: j/k: set up your plan for the week, but be realistic about what you'll be able to accomplish. Good luck!

Karen: Happy Valley sounds like a lovely place, and the fireworks sound beautiful! Nice job incorporating exercise into your "real life". I think that's the key to staying fit, more movement all day long not just during our structured workout time.

Train well, my friends!
Colleen

Karen - good for you taking that extra walk to do something fun even when you know it would be easier to just take the car! Hats off to DH too - he sounds so supportive ::yes::

Terry- WTG - you are on your way to your goal. Will be thinking positive thoughts for you this week while you are on a break.

I shared this with my buddies today - our pastor's message this weekend included the statement - that it takes ONLY 3 days to break a habit. Now isn't that eye-opening! 6 weeks to make a practice a habit and ONLY 3 lousy days to revert back to an old way! KEEP that thought

I want ALL my fellow WISHWALKERS/RUNNERS to know that you "convinced" me today to take the "long" road home! I came to the crossroad of a "short" walk or "long" walk and you guys were shouting and finger pointing to the "long" walk way (and I just might have heard a few words like - wimp; oh, man, you chose which way and okay - so how's that gonna sound when you post that you just cut it short cause it was hot and humid - Yes, I took the long way THANKS- I needed the boost to get me going tho!! :p

Have a good week everyone - keep up the good work!

Evening all! I hope evryone had an enjoyable and safe 4th. Today was an unplanned day of rest but I think the past couple of days and ace bandages got to me. I did a good job with watching my eating (and read a good book, too) so all was not lost. Anyway I am happy to report that I walked 5 miles on Sunday, the last half mile was tough as it was warm and very humid but I did it.

Karen- I also got in an extra walk on Saturday to see fireworks. They are worth the walk aren't they? Sounds like you live ina nice town.

Terry- Great job at the 5k! Keep it up!

Colleen- Welcome back from WDW, sounds like you had a good time and managed to exercise also.

AlreadyexcitedGrammy- I agree with your Pastor 100%. I have been down that road too many times before. Which is why I will be getting up early tomorrow and walking.

Keep it up everybody! Less than 27 weeks!

I walked 55 minutes today pushing a double stroller. It was very hot and humid, but it felt good to exercise after a rest day on the 4th of July. Have a great week everyone!

I walked for 70 minutes yesterday. My pedometer's broke so I'll have to use the car to see how far it was. I had my mini-dachshund with me and she did need to stop and rest at times because of the heat and humidity.

I'll be getting a new pedometer this week and I'll be walking without the puppy when it's really hot!

I also did a light upper body workout with resistance bands yesterday and hope to do lower body tonight as well as an hour walk.

Happy training all! It's very inspiring to read what you're doing to train!!

hi all:teeth:

Terry -- cyber high five!! i'm so proud of you!! WTG!!!:smooth:

I'm glad we all had a great holiday weekend. We started our evening with a 2 hr outdoor symphony concert, lots of patriotic songs (and a medly of lion king songs too ;)) and that really got us in the spirit. we then walked down the road to the big open field (along with a few other thousand folks) and watched a superb fireworks show! we drove to a town about 1/2 hour from home this year and it was definately a step or two or ten up from the degree of fireworks show we get in our little town.

doreen -- LOVE your tags!! did you get some new ones!! now what are you gluing where?

pixiechick -- i'm certainly impressed that you did two runs at WDW!!! exercsising on vacation is HUGE!!! i'm planning on some walking/jogging on Ocean City's boardwalk in a couple weeks now you have inspired me to keep that commitment!

yesterday I hit the trail and covered 4 miles doing intervals - jogging 1.25 miles total. I think my shoes/orthotics are breaking in but it's not uncounscious for me yet. my right foot arch is especially high. that is my trouble foot so hopefully in another week i'll be able to tell even more difference in adjusting. I've noticed the back of my legs/gluts are sore off and on and I think that's the muscles being used differently the foot doc warned me off? who knows. i'm getting there little by little

PD to all for an inspiring committed week!!!!

I did a 40 minute walk this morning. It felt great! I'm trying hard to stay focused on eating OP today. I've been having a hard time with that lately. I'm planning on walking again in the morning. I'll let you know how it goes.

I got a surprise in the mail!! :Pinkbounc

Thanks, Bev! I love it!! I won't ruin the surprise for anyone else. You are so thoughtful!

Well my friends- I have not done my walk for today- although I am planning on it.

We hear ya - and we just know that you will out there ASAP - I am thinking you will be hearing those same voices I heard and when this group gets together - it can be a noisy sound - ah - wait -I hear cheering and applauding - postive thinkers we WISHwalkers/runners are - cheering and applauding for Karen - cause she went out and accomplished her walk for Tuesday - WTG!

Okay I did Curves today - too darn hard to get my buns up moving this AM - so I got up and did some laundry - house straightening, etc. BUT tomorrow I am getting up and doing some tmilling probably 3-4 miles - so mark me down for that :p

I am glad to hear that some of you are receiving the package - I will update tomorrow the info that I still need from some of you - so that I can get your package in the mail (I forgot my list at work today so I can't do it tonight) what I need is your wrist measurement and snail mail address - so if you know that you haven't sent that to me yet - PM - me please! I don't want to leave anyone out - we are in this "goal" together - aren't we? Whew - glad that was a yes - I need all of you to keep me motivated that's for sure!!!

Have a good day tomorrow everyone :wave2:

Everyone is off to a great start this week!

I got in a 45 min. walk this evening. I took my DD to her dance class and planned on walking while she danced and a good friend was dropping off her DD too so we walked together. It was a nice bonus to walk with a friend! Our DD's will be in dance class together Tuesday and Thursday nights for the month of July so I now have my Tuesday and Thursday walks "scheduled" for this month! Tomorrow I am hoping to do a longer walk and go for 60-90 min.

Karen I love the name of your town, Happy Valley, and it sounds so beautiful! You can still get some walking in tonight. As Grammy said we're all cheering for you. It is amazing how this group keeps everyone in check ;) .

Terry Congrats on doing so well on your 5K :cheer2: Have a great vacation and remeber we're all here cheering for you so good luck staying committed, that is hard while on vacation.

Colleen Welcome back from WDW! WOW you ran twice in the heat and humidity :cheer2: while on vacation. Good luck getting back into the swing of things at home.

Grammy I got my surprise in the mail today and I love it! Thank you so very much. I wore it while I walked tonight and thought of everyone here. Great job choosing the "long road" today :cheer2:

LAWalz I hope your legs are doing better walking with them wrapped! That has to be hard though when it's hot and humid.
Somedays an unplanned rest, especially spent with a good book ;) , is just what the body needs. Good luck getting up early tomorrow to get in your long walk, I'll think of you when my alarm goes off early and hopefully that we keep me motivated to get out there early too so that I will have the time for a long walk.

Katie Great job pushing a DOUBLE stroller for 55 min in the heat and humidity :cheer2: Just think how strong your legs must be getting pushing that double stroller!

Doe Good to see you on this thread! It sounds like you're doing great with the walking and also getting in some strength training! I keep telling myself I need to work some strength training in too, it would really help if there were more hours in the day lol.

ohMom Glad to hear you're getting used to your orthotics! 4 miles doing intervals sounds great. Take it slow so you don't overdo it!

tw1nsmom Good for you getting in your walk this morning. Good luck focusing on your eating plan. I'm working on that today too, it was a baaad weekend for eating for me :(

Have a great Wednesday everyone! We're meeting our cruising buddies from out of state tomorrow for dinner so I'm not sure I'll get to post tomorrow but I'll be thinking of all of you :grouphug:

Cheryl

I am very excited tonight. I was able to walk one mile pushing the double stroller with a time of 17:53. Then, I left the kiddos at home and did another mile on my own. Without the stroller I was able to do the mile in 16:15. I am so close to walking a mile in 16 minutes! Of course walking one mile at 16 minutes per mile and walking 13 miles at 16 minutes per mile is a different story, but I am very pleased with my training so far. I also added an extra .6 miles to continue our go the extra mile theme from last week. I am also doing abdominal crunches in the morning and at night. I have got to get rid of this pouch that having 4 kids has given me, not to mention the stretch marks. Yikes! What a visual! I hope no one is eating while reading this because I probably just ruined your appetite! LOL! Have a great Wednesday everyone!:wave2:

I'm a late checker- iner and NO one has posted yet today - well can only mean one thing - everybody is just too darn busy exercising to take the time!

Hope everyone has had a good day today - I got 3 miles in on the treadmill this AM. Am back to watching only "healthy" foods go into my mouth - and you know what I feel so much better too!

Hi all! I am happy to say I got up yesterday and today and walked my regular 3.2 miles. I also got good news at WW, that I lost 5lbs which puts me at 29.8lbs (and a new clippie) since the middle of January if I can duplicate this by the marathon I think I will be in good shape. That is my goal.
I have also started informally with a personal trainer, he works with me and does personal training on the side. He gave me some exercises to start with and told me to concentrate on one area of the body (legs, arms, shoulders, back, and chest) each day then repeat the cycle. He says we will add additional exercises every month.
I have a question for everybody. How long and what do you do to warm up and/or cool down? I do some stretches but I don't think it is enough because it takes me much longer to do my first 1/2 mile then the rest of my daily walk.

Keep up the good work everybody! Have a great Thursday!

Thanks in advance, AlreadyexcitedGrammy!

I just wanted to add to my post because I forgot. The personal training is with 8lb weights. He also told me to get a pair of wt gloves so I don't develop callouses and a wt belt so I don't injure myself accidently. He says it takes about 3 months to notice a signifigant difference. I am going to buy the stuff tomorrow and give it a try!

Just a quick post to thank Bev for such a fun surprise! I showed my mom last night and she said that it was one of the neatest things she had ever seen made as a motivator! I don't want to ruin it for anybody, but you should all be excited to receive it!

THANK YOU, ALREADYEXCITEDGRAMMY BEV! :bounce:

You... :rockband:

Now, starting tomorrow I am going to be fully motivated by Bev's token of inspiration. I have been exceptionally bad at staying on plan lately, and maybe that was all the torch I needed lit under my butt to get moving!

I will run tomorrow, you all wait and see!

I don't have time to post to individuals, but I love seeing how our group is growing! It is so much fun! You all sound like you are doing really, really well!

If you haven't put your name on the roster yet, please PM me with your info:
Disname
Name
Address
Email Address
Dates of Travel
Resort
Fave Color
Fave Disney Character

I'll add it to the roster and then update and resend it out.

I will be sending the updated roster out this weekend. Please have info in by then (Saturday) to get on the next list!

Thanks!

Hey Everyone!!

Well, I'm putting one foot in front of the other this week, just to make it through!! There are lots of things happening in my family...my mom has a PET scan today and we are expecting a new cancer daignosis...my MIL has a biopsy scheduled today for a "bad" mammogram, and my FIL had a slight heart attack last week. Like Morton salt, when it rains it pours....

BUT, I have to say that a year ago I probably would have made myself feel better with a run to the border (Taco Bell!) but instead I'm trying to harness the energy and time that I have available to me and be productive. We're painting and stuff just incase we end up with lots of company in the very near future!! Plus a great deal of my time is starting to be in the daily care for my mom's every day stuff....by 7AM I've usually been to her house 3 times!!

AND I'm finding that I wake up NEEDING my walk and I'm keenly aware that my walk time is my me time. I didn't get the time in last week that I had wanted to, but I'm back on track this week, but slightly down time-wise. I did walk 50 minutes on Tuesday and 45 today. I'm hoping for a walk tomorrow and then a long walk on Saturday.

Thank you all for the posts that you write. I truly get so much motivation from all of you and it's also a wonderful diversion from my day.

Bev, thanks again for the "pick-me-up". I can't tell you how much that meant to me....I will make it through this time and I will achieve this goal.

Have a good day eveyrone and keep on walking! (or jogging or running)
~~Beth
