Okay, we received an offer in the mail from Marriott as my husband has a Marriott Rewards. The deal is 4 nights for 199.00 if we stay at the Ocean Watch Villas in Myrtle Beach. Of course, the catch is a 90 minute time share presentation. Do they inforce this? Or if I don't answer the room phone, can I avoid it? Has any one done a Marriott time share presentation and how high pressure are they? The place looks fabulous and some of the reviews I've read seem positive. It's brand new and still under construction. Any advice on this is appreciated
Thanks

Check the fine print on the offer; it will sometimes state that if you don't go to the timeshare presentation, you will be charged a higher rate for your room. I haven't gone to a Marriott presentation, but have been to others and (IMHO) they are torturous time wasters if you aren't planning on buying. I won't go to them again, no matter how good the deal is!

I have been to two marriott presentations, and they were both EXTREMELY courteous and low pressure- I would almost say no pressure. We signed up for one other, and since they were overbooked the sent us home with our free gift and without the sales pitch. I've stayed at four marriott VCs (Ford Colony Va, Summit Watch UT,Cypress Harbor FL and Ko'Olina in HI) and they were all really, really nice. My inlaws own two units.

Do both spouses have to be present? Do they provide childcare? We got the same promo card and it sounds like a good deal. We aren't buying, but the vacation sounds nice!

Hi, we are Marriott Vacation Club owners and YES, if you do not go (both spouses must be present and they DO have childcare) to the 90-minute presentation you will be charged the "regular" rate for your stay. Which I can tell you will be much more than the $199 you quoted in your post. They really aren't high pressure. The Ocean Watch Villas are brand new! They just opened last summer. I would go and see what it's all about.

Good luck.

Oops - it's 3 nights for 199.00. Read my card wrong. In the fine print it does say that married or living together couples must both attend the presentation.

They usually have a playroom with childcare, and snacks too! For $199 for three nights, I would go for it.

In Hawaii, we attented the presentation in order to get a dolphin sightseeing cruise (worth $400). The presentation was less than an hour, and the cruise was awesome!

I agree!!! If you don't go, let me know, I'll take it off your hands..:) No, really, go and enjoy. Don't let the presentation scare you. They are really low pressure.

Last summer we went to one and there was no pressure after we said no and it was definitely worth the 200.00 Disney Dollars they gave us!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Actually we went to this exact presentation 2 summers ago when they were not yet open for people to stay in. We were staying in the Marriot next door already and they had a desk in the lobby. I think we got some dining certificates and free waterpark passes in exchange for the presentation. I have been to many Marriot presentations and in general I did not think they were high pressure at all.

The guy we had at the Myrtle Beach one was a little more "intense" than the ones we had been to in the past and I have to say he did get a little annoyed with my husband when he tried to explain why we don't think timeshares make good financial sense. We were staying at the Marriot for a government rate of $99 and he kept saying he could not believe the rate and that the hotel charges "$400 a night!". Of course this was all part of his schpiel on why the timeshare is more cost effective. We were just trying to say how many trips we could take at $99 per night for the cost of a week of the timeshare. He also gave us this "tearjerking" story about how on his father's deathbed, his one real regret was that he never took his family on vacation! Hence another reason we should buy the timeshare. Oy! Very over the top.

Having said that, it was worth the time for us. He stopped right at the 90 mins (although we did have to remind him of the time) and there was no real "pressure". If you just sit back and listen, it is definitely worth the time.

And the place is really beautiful. Are you actually staying in the villas? The whole complex was great. It is right next door to the brand new Marriot and I thought they said the villas could use the facilities there too. They had a very cool slide and a gorgeous pool area. Not at all the typical Myrtle Beach place. Very elegant and upscale. The villas had a nice pool area too, but I don't recall if there was a slide. The beach was really nice too.

So I would go for it. Too bad we can't do it again. I think once you have attended you can't go again. $199 for the total stay is a good deal.

Good luck!
