Our family is headed to WDW for the first time ever May 7-14. It will be me, DH, DS 4 yrs, DS 10 months and my Mom (Grandma). I have been researching this trip for a while and we are seriously considering Marriott Horizons. We want a "home away from home" type of accomodation, but can't afford any of Disney's properties.
My question is... how far is Horizons to the parks and to downtown Disney? We don't want to be far away, in case we want to go back at night for a while (we will have rental car) With 2 little ones, convenience is very important. I am also thinking about Cypress Pointe Grand Villas. I would really appreciate any info/feedback/opinions from all of you Disney experts out there who have done this before. The info everyone shares here is so great! Thanks!

You can rent a DVC resort directly from a DVC member and save you some bucks. especially if you only rent Sun-thurs (fri/sat are too expensive)

the Marriott Horizons like the Marriott Cypress Harbour is closer to SW than WDW - however using I4 the WDW is the next 1-4 exits after the SW. you have easy access -

so on a good day 15 minutes on a bad day who knows.

We toured the Horizons resort last year. Your 4 year will love it with the pirate ship water park. The resort is right next to Route 4, a little too close if you ask me. You do hear some road noise. You will be at Disney in minutes and DT Disney is even closer. Going north (towards universal) is a little more challenging. It looks like a great resort. Good luck.
