Just read in Yahoo news that Marriot is buying all the Starwood Properities and just wondering how this will affect our Preferred Member Points - do people think it will go across the board to include Marriot property? Might they discontinue the points all together? Please advise. Ely

They are not buying all of the properties and the article says that starwood will continue to manage for 40 years. Starwood will still have 96 properties left so our points should be fine.

According to the Yahoo story, the only thing Marriott is buying are some specific hotel properties, not the entire brand. So your Starwood points are still good for any of the remaining Starwood properties and any new ones they decide to build with the profits from the sale.

I would suggest visiting the Marriott and Starwood forums on www.flyertalk.com

They have representatives from those companies that participate in the boards.

Go to miles and points, then the hotel forums.

if you intend to use it at the Dolphin or Swan - you might have a problem I think they were Westin????

from the article
'The deal includes hotels carrying the Sheraton, W, Westin, St. Regis and Luxury Collection brands'

They have a list of the properties over on FlyerTalk, and it doesn't look like the S&D are among those being sold.

Additionally, it looks more like a real estate deal, and Starwood will still continue to manage the properties. I bet it will continue to be business as usual.
