Marriot GV vs. Hilton GVC vs. Sheraton Vistana vs. OKW

OKW is a Disney property. Therefore it has both EMH (extra park hours) and DME - disney magical express - you don't need a rental car if you decide to fly to Orlando.

I dearly love HGVC - it is a lovely resort. You can walk to Seaworld from it.

MGV - while just a block - yea an Orlando block - is more like a mile from Seaworld.

both Horizons and MCH are closer. of the bunch Marriott Cypress Harbour gets the best reviews.

I use to love MGV - but I got a lousy room on my last stay and I haven't been back since then.

with OKW you can call ahead and mention your problem - asthma - and ask for a special cleaning.

I would think at HGVC you could do this too.

OKW don't often show up on II - so if you found one for your time - grab it. If you don't it will be gone.

when did HGVC become part of II - last time I looked they were part of RCI?

Cypress Pointe was recently rehab (last year) and no one has complainted about it since the rehab. I know it is not on your list - but you might consider it.

II is a fine exchange company. When do you hope to travel? Your options will be limited to non-Disney resorts if you are planning to travel during Christmas/New Year's or the 2 weeks straddling Easter. Other school breaks can be tricky too, but not impossible. The other resorts may be found in II during holiday weeks.

Have a fun trip - these are nice resorts. :)

We were hoping to travel again for Thanksgiving...or maybe the last 2 weeks of August.

I thank you all for the wonderful (and detailed) advice. I guess with so many terrific reviews of several properties, I will just have to drag the family to Disney half a dozen times in the next few years (oh, how I wish this were possible). For this trip, we found a fantastic deal at the Marriot Cypress Harbour - $166/night with AAA. I was told that this included daily cleaning, which is a must. I requested a renovated or new room.
I guess I should call a week or so before arriving to reiterate this request. Can anyone suggest a room or building I should request?

Thanks again for all of your help - it really made us feel comfortable with our decision to venture off-site.

Mikkiwikki, I would not expect to see DVC weeks in II for Thanksgiving week at all. The last 2 weeks of August are possible - place a "search first" request with II. Then you don't need to give them your deposit until it's available. HTH! :thumbsup2

Familyman, that's a good nightly rate for Marriott Cypress Harbour. A lot of people really enjoy this place. Nightly rentals should include daily housekeeping. Buildings 50-53 and 60-65 surround the main lake, have lake views and are close the main activity and pool areas. Other buildings have pond views or woods views. But I don't know which buildings have the most recently renovated rooms. So I guess I'd request a recently renovated room overlooking the main lake. And calling the resort directly, a week or two ahead, is a good idea. Be aware that they will honor owner requests before renters. Have fun!!! :goodvibes

Great choice, Cypress Harbour is lovely. Some of my family stayed there a few weeks ago on a II Getaway and they got a refurbished room. They really enjoyed the grounds at Cypress Harbour - very lush and pretty.

Have a good time. :sunny:
