Marriage Equality!

I am married for 19 years. I am a woman, my spouse is a man. Our marriage is strong because we make it strong. If it weakens it will weaken because of something we did, not because same *** marriage became legal. If somebody believes that same *** marriage is wrong then by all means, don't marry somebody of the same ***. @@
Word.

Twenty-two years ago today, DH and I were married. At our reception, a dear friend of ours introduced us to his partner, with whom he'd been living for three years. When I heard the news this morning, I broke out in tears of joy that these two wonderful men will finally, after a dedicated 25 year relationship, be able to be married and enjoy all the privileges and honors that come with having a spouse. I cannot tell you how deeply I am moved by this announcement today, on our wedding anniversary, that our dear friends will now have the freedom to make the same choice that we did, without question or challenge. A truly great day for all who love!

Happy Anniversary!!!

I read the responses to my question. Yes it was a serious question. Yes I know the rainbow will always mean to me what it means to me. I didn't mean to suggest that I felt it being used as a symbol for being gay cheapened it in some way. I meant that culture associates the rainbow flag with being gay. I asked if it would now still be a symbol for being gay. That's all. Not homophobic here. If my first post was read I said congratulations to everyone the new law effects and suggested tolerance from others. I am asking if there is now a need for a symbol as we are all equal now for marriage.

Following your train of thought, why do Christians still need the rainbow as a symbol?

This was my last FB update because I seriously can't take anymore of the ignorance and have deleted quite a few people today.

"If today's Supreme Court ruling takes anything away from your straight marriage or effects it in any way, then it probably wasn't as awesome as you'd like to think."

This is one of the best quotes of the day!!

Oddly enough, I've seen damn little (good or bad) on my FB feed, and most of it positive. Still tons of Stars & Bars talk though

Since I'm college aged, I've thankfully seen many wonderful and supportive posts on my fb feed. So glad to be part of this momumental day. I knew it was only a matter of time until it became legal throughout the entire country. Love wins, it always finds a way.

I have 2 questions. Since marriage is now legal for everyone will the rainbow symbol still be associated with being gay ? Is there no longer a need for it ? To me the rainbow means something else and honestly I would like it back.
For the people that this new law effects I say congratulations and others need to learn tolerance.
While marriage is a great step forward, it is definitely not the biggest issue facing lgbt individuals. There are still tons of problems lgbt people face. And for many, marriage is the least of their worries.
There is absolutely still a need for gay rights advocacy.

Yep. This is just the beginning.

I think my opinion is as valid as yours. And I do have two houses in Canada. Thank you!

You're allowed to have an opinion, but it's going to be on the wrong side of history. Just like when one sees those pictures from the 60s of white people screaming at blacks during forced integration events and thinks "how on earth could people have thought that way?". People used religious arguments to justify segregation too. I guess some people think they can always repackage bigotry as "states' rights" and try to pass it off as a valid legal argument.

Until you tell us that a gay posse has come to your door demanding your hand in marriage, I'm going to go out on a limb and say this ruling has no effect on you whatsoever.

This is an uncanny description of my night. It was worse than the time Obama filed that executive order on immigration and 12 Haitians moved into my spare bedroom.

Great, now there's going to be voodoo everywhere. You march right on in there and tell them that we have freedom of religion in this country!
