When flying into Detriot on the smaller regional jets, do we still have to go through the colorful tunnel and go all the way to the other end of the terminal to catch flights on Delta full size planes? We only have an hour layover for January and if Delta runs true to form, they will change the layover time before we fly. If we factor in the possibility of weather delays in Marquette I need to know what I'm talking about if I need to beg for a flight change. Thanks!

Most likely. Regional flights fly into one of the other terminals and then have to go to the main terminal (sorry, can't remember the letters).

Dd and I have a 52 minute connection. Dh says this is plenty of time, he used to fly through DTW a lot. I'm nervous about the time though, so we have seats as near the front of the plane that I could get and we aren't taking carry on luggage (just backpacks) because they will gate check it.

I would be nervous with an hour flying from Marquette in the winter......

The reason I asked is we always have to take the tram after going through the tunnel to the big gates coming out of Marquette. Last January on the way back to Marquette we automatically went back on the tram. Well, turned out we were flying from a gate not far from where we landed coming in from Orlando. That has never happened before, so I was wondering if it was a change because of the new terminal set up for Delta or maybe the size of the small plane into Marquette was bigger than normal and could leave from the big gates?

It's absolutely possible you'll land in the A terminal (big one). I was just flying into detroit yesterday and I was flights leaving for Grand Rapids and Manistee. Which terminal you fly into depends on plane size and availability. Small planes do fly into the A terminal though too there are just less gates for the little guys :) it's possible and 50 minutes is plenty of time to make it anywhere in the detroit airport, just check your connection gate and see if hopping the tram is beneficial if you're going 3/4 of the way down or farther it is way faster even if you have to wait the 2 minutes for it to arrive.
