First, please try to use proper punctuation. It makes reading things a lot easier.:)

Second of all, saying things differently is different than writing good lyrics. Heck I say some brilliant things sometimes, but that doesn't make me a good songwriter. Actually, even being a good writer doesn't make you a good songwriter. Lord knows I can write the best story out of 50 people, but I need help when it comes to writing songs. The stuff he comes up with doesn't qualify him as a great songwriter.

So you like him because he's different. Somehow I am beginning to see another definition for "different" because the way I see it, everyone is different. We all don't walk around like cloned zombies (well, except for maybe those who name themselves as "emo" lol). Anyway, to think someone is the best songwriter who ever lived because he is different is just pure ignorance, I think. Sure, he sings a few songs that people take to heart, but so doesn't nearly EVERY artist out there. Everyone has their own favorite singer...doesn't make that singer the greatest songwriter who ever lived.

I agree, it wasn't his fault the kids did what they did at Columbine...what the kids did was a result of the lives they lived and the progression of many overlapping cirumstances.

I gotta tell you, this guy, who we are talking about, isn't any more "great" of a song writer than Barney (the purple dinosaur) lol. The fact that he is "different" doesn't make him a good songwriter, lol. Heck, David Blane is "different"...does that mean he is a great songwriter? lol. :rotfl:

He is a man who promotes drugs in the hands of teens. Not only is he a poor songwriter, he is also a horrible role model. IMHO.

I've seen the beatles brought up twice in this thread.

The Beatles went sky high. Everyone now compaires themselves to The Beatles.

Who did the Beatles compare themselves to? Is that why they went to the top? Because they got to decide where the top was?

now back on topic.

I've written songs and I've worked with bands before. Coming up with words that match music is HARD. Harder than actually making the music. I wouldn't call Manson a brilliant song writer. Its a stretch for me to call him a good song writer. It takes a whole lot for me to call you a good song writer, let alone the greatest to ever live.

*See Elvis.

It is hard, as you say, just getting it on paper. Then getting it past an editor (if this was a profession) and then getting the public to like it is even more difficult. Any well-known artist has some ability to "reach" to the public. But then there is the question about whether the "reaching" is good or not. In this case, I don't believe it is.

The beatles surpassed elvis with record sells.

The british invasion occoured about 10 years after elvis's hayday.

(oh, and barbra streisand came close to the beatles' number of platinum albums)

Yes, Elvis came before the Beatles, but that point is irrelivant. My point is, Elvis was huge before the Beatle. Elvis MADE big...The Beatles made it bigger.

Your original post sounded like you were saying nobody came before The Beatles. Like they were exploring uncharted waters. This is false. Elvis came before.
