Margaritas and babies

Not only is it completely appropriate, but it's also a way to model responsible drinking to your children. If they grow up seeing that the adults in their life have a drink or two occasionally but do not get stinking drunk, rather than seeing you "drink to get drunk," it promotes a healthier and more responsible attitude about alcohol.

Of course, choosing not to drink is healthy and responsible too! :goodvibes

My husband and I always share the "Fiesta" margarita on way through Mexico...it's sort of a tradition! It's so festive looking!! We both think the Mango layer tastes gross every year...but now it's a tradition to comment on the yucky mango layer!! We started this tradition on our honeymoon...the next year his kiddos came with us. They didn't even bat an eyelash...they had their own drink!

The only reasons not to have one would be if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or a recovering alcoholic...if you are none of those things, have at it!!!

I personally don't find the margaritas at Epcot all that strong...maybe it's b/c I'm sharing it...but mostly it just tastes fruity and cool on a hot day...and that's about it...and I'm not very big...

enjoy yourself...no one is going to look at you like you are bad parent...if you feel people are staring and judging...stick your fiesta colored tongue out at them!!!:thumbsup2

Just be careful how you push that stroller:)

When we were in New Orleans (before kids) there were parents everywhere holding drinks and pushing their kids in strollers, even on the boat that goes to the zoo. We thought it was hilarious. They were just enjoying their vacations, kids were no worse for the wear. When I was a kid, my father was in the military and there was always a lot of drinking at the family BBQs. No one thought anything of it as all the parents were very responsible and, FWIW, I don't drink at all but see nothing wrong with it.

I don't think anyone is going to judge you for having a drink with your child around. Unless, of course, you happen to be breastfeeding at the same time.:rotfl:

I thought it was the whole reason for the drink holder :lmao:

Just kidding.. Enjoy your vacation!

I agree with the people who have said Its all about modeling good behavior and responsibility. We regularly have wine with dinner and my husband brews beer as a hobby.

Look for me in a couple of weeks, pushing my stroller and drinking my margarita:woohoo:

When Russ was 20 months, I had him in a Mei Tai baby carrier, strapped to my chest and napping. While I drank a margarita.

At 2.5 years old, we took him through the Australia Wine Walk About at the F&WF, and one of the wine guys gave him a wine glass for his juice so he felt included. Russ then clinked glasses with us and yelled "cheers!"

We aren't big drinkers here but every trip my dh gets a margarita from Mexico, if not two.

The past 2 trips we have had strollers with cup holders & usually he is holding his drink but if he gets tired he puts it in the cup holder & pushes the stroller (last trip we had 2 strollers).

Have a drink if you desire & enjoy it.

I for one don't like margaritas. I prefer more fruitier drinks so expect to see me with something yummy sipping away poolside at the Poly while dh & I watch our 3 kids.

As long as you don't plan on downing 4 or 5, I see no problems. I had a drink Sat night while out with my DH and kids. I had one drink at about 1/2 of our meals at Disney this past trip. Like you, I am not a big drinker. At Disney it was probably my first drink in about a year. However, I liked it. I think maybe I will have a drink in the evening more often.... maybe every couple weeks. Never know ;)

Go for it! I thought they were a pretty strong drink, for me, but I've become a light weight with age!

In addition to Epcot, Downtown disney has an incredible margarita stand...YUM!

This is my friend Debbie, obviously excited that there is a Margarita Bar at Downtown disney...LOL

I'm one of those people who cringes at the sight of seeing people drink around their kids... But, it all depends on the circumstance too...
I'd say a margarita walking in Epcot or DTD is totally fine... but sitting in a bar in Pleasure Island would make me want to slap you...LOL
I know I'll have MY margarita when I get there... so, as long as you aren't driving or getting drunk, it's ok.. Besides...who's to know it' isn't a virgin;)

What better place to have a margarita than Disney, where you have your own transportation, no driving involved!!!

Well there isn't much i can say that hasn't been said already. I guess if it was inappropriate then they wouldn't have stands that sell alcohol in the first place! I guess they figure..."look these adults are walking around with cranky kids, screaming kids, hungry kids, crying kids, they gonna need something to keep them from throwing them in the lake!"
Thankfully my kids are older (8 and 12) so all of that is kept to a minimum lol
(except when my 12 year old think she rules the world!!)
I have hear alot about the "Feista" margarita's. Aparently they pack a punch, so be careful! But Enjoy!!

Thank you so much to everyone. I will enjoy my drink. I will also remember that about the mango layer and I will let DH push the stroller until the effects wear off (maybe I can get him to change a diaper with that excuse too :lmao: )

at least you would have the stroller to hold you up if the Margarita is too strong. LOL... JUST KIDDING.
seriously as long as you are just having one then enjoy. But also they can be VERY tasty and make you want more than one. So limit to just one and enjoy. I like the sip of water to one sip of maragarita.

As long as your not sharing the maragarita with the baby ,I say go for it!:rotfl:
When we go to Disney with my family my kids say "wait we have to stop at Mexico so Grandma can get her margarita". Then it's, "wait we have to stop at Italy so grandma can get her wine". No grandma is not a drunk, she just likes to have her little samples as we walk around the World Showcase. Grandma drinkin' her way around the world, now that's a magical moment!

* not to start a debate, just to give any nursing moms that may be reading a little info on the subject *

from La Leche League:
"Alcohol passes freely into mother's milk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when taken with food. Alcohol also freely passes out of a mother's milk and her system. It takes a 120 pound woman about two to three hours to eliminate from her body the alcohol in one serving of beer or wine...the more alcohol that is consumed, the longer it takes for it to be eliminated.

The effects of alcohol on the breastfeeding baby are directly related to the amount the mother ingests. When the breastfeeding mother drinks occasionally or limits her consumption to one drink or less per day, the amount of alcohol her baby recieves has not been proven to be harmful.

Reasonable alcohol intake should not be discouraged at all. As is the case with most drugs, very little alcohol comes out in the milk. The mother can take some alcohol and continue breastfeeding as she normally does. Prohibiting alcohol is another way we make life unnecessarily restrictive for nursing mothers."

I'm certainly not advocating anyone to get drunk or even drink regularly, but I am pretty certain that most people would judge a woman who may pour herself a glass of wine right after or even during breastfeeding. This would actually be the ideal time to have the drink because she could wait several hours (until the alcohol is gone) before feeding again. Judge all you want, but I will indulge in an occasional beer-- I've been breastfeeding and/or pregnant nonstop for almost 5 years now. :upsidedow

Will we be taking our DS 10 months and I was wondering what people thought about walking around with a margarita and pushing your 10 month old in a stroller. I would like to try one, but I grew up in a family where drinking wasn't allowed and am not sure about what is okay and not okay. I usually only drink a glass of wine with dinner twice a year if that

As one who does not indulge in hard spirits, you need to be cautious about the potential effects. I would make sure your husband or another adult is around and sober in case you feel a little tipsy. Nothing wrong with the margarita near the baby but drunk-driving a stroller even accidentally is probably not the thing. :rotfl:
