So how do they do concerts at US anyway? Is there a set concert area with seating? Obviously we are planning our first trip to US/IOA and so are full of questions.

Concerts are standing room only. You can bring a blanket and sit on that, if you'd like.

Concert location is The Yard, which is that area between Jimmy Neutron and Twister.

Mother fletcher- If you look at the schedule closely they typed 3/6/04 twice so i bet 3/12 is Chaka Khan. You may want to click on the site and see.

I just checked and Chaka Khan and Baja Men are playing together on the 6th so maybe they haven't found anyone yet for the 12th.

This is the list that is floating around

02/14/04- The B-52's
02/21/04- Cyndi Lauper
02/28/04- KC & The Sunshine Band
03/06/04- Baha Men
03/06/04- Chaka Khan
03/20/04- James Brown

This is from Poll Star:

Sat 02/14/04 The B-52's

Sat 02/21/04 Cyndi Lauper

Sat 02/28/04 Chic feat. Nile Rodgers

Sat 03/06/04 Baha Men

Yeah, hot info just realeased.

I don't really care for the selections. Seems they're trying to bring 40 something people to the concerts.

What they need to do is bring a collections of acts like they did at Jingle Ball down here in South Florida.

They had acts like Simple Plan, Michele Branch, Julio Igelisas, Clay Aiken
Here's a link to the pics.

This is what they need to bring. Teens are not going to drag their parents out to see the B-52s. Parent's won't bring their children to see the B-52's because they'll be bored, and quite frankly, I don't care to see those old acts anymore.

Look at the acts in the Jingle Ball, Listen to your Y-100 station in Orlando, bring those bands here next year, and you'll get all the teens to drag their parents to the park. Granted, pop acts can't headline a show by themselves, they need a few acts. For example, Simple Plan is touring with MxPX. But you get the idea. Bring 3 pop acts, let each one do a few tunes. During the break, parents can go for a beer run.

I'd love to hear what the marketing department was thinking on this one. Oh, and I'm going to Jingle Ball next year, no doubt about it.

Hey... I am 40 something and may be in the minority here with my 15 yr old daughter, but she (and I) like Cyndi Lauper. And I know I would still like to see the B-52's and think my 15 yr old may enjoy them too... not sure of the 11 yr old though

I will most likely be out there to see Cyndi Lauper. She has a relatively new CD out of standards and she really sings quite well now. Plus I am a part of the 80's generation so I liked her back then too.

I would have loved to have seen the B 52s....(remember Rock Lobster and Planet Clair????)
Cindy Lauper would have been fun too.
But I think I'll skip "Chic feat. Nile Rodgers " on the night we'll be there. I've decided to go to the stand up comedy show at City Jazz that night instead (after a long day at the park, it might be kind of nice to be able to sit down and enjoy some entertaiment - too bad Mardi Gras isn't on Fridays as well as Sat. though....)

Maybe they'll still do a mini-parade mid-day on Sat.?
Pardon if that's been asked already.

That is a good questions because I recall reading somewhere that during Mardi Gras, one of the afternoon Ghostbuster shows is cancelled due to parade stuff. I do not know why an eveningj parade would effect an early afternoon show unless there was something happening earlier in the day too. Can anybody clarify this?

Glad you all have the scoop, I called US yesterday and they said no clue. I asked them about the parade and all they would say that it was at US and not IOA, I already knew that from the board! I can't believe they aren't advertising it yet since it's not that far away : )

Anyway, Cyndi Lauper here I come!

Last year we were there for Mardi Gras in mid-March. They had the parade on Fridays and Saturdays and it wasn't that crowded the night we were there ( a Friday). I would imagine that the cost of keeping the parks open later as well as the concert and the parade and the BEADS, they decided to tone it back this year and only do the parade/concert one night.

We only stayed for the parade because we didn't know the person who was performing that night, but I would do it again in a heart beat. Maybe it was so much fun because we didn't really know what to expect, but I have to say the floats were fantastic and the excitment of Yelling..."Throw me something Mista" was contagious!! One of the vendors told us to stand in one of the roped off kids sections to watch the parade since we had three kids with us and at first I hesitated thinking it would be over crowded with kids, but it wasn't, and before the parade they had some very low key entertainment for the kids... where they could win some beads for trivia questions and stuff like that. When the floats passed by they threw the kids TONS of beads and coins....Much more than when they were passed the kids section...so if you have kids, you might want to consider finding one of the kids sections and waiting there to watch the parade.......your kids will certainly walk away with more beads than they want or need! I don't think I'm exagerating when I say that my 9 and 7 year old caught well over 50 strings of beads. My husband was holding my 2 year old, so plenty of stilt walkers came over and placed beads around her neck so even she got more than her fair share. It was almost embarassing to see how many we ended up with. My kids are begging to go back this year.

Personally as a 40-something, I would go see almost anybody on the above list. I think something jumpin like the B-52s would be fun to see - don't know about my 17 and 12 yr old sons, however. Who are Chic feat or Nile Rodgers? And on 2nd thought, I'd pass on KC too. Oops, my 12 yr old just said the B-52s are "another crappy band."

I'm just waiting for them to fill in the missing dates, especially 2/27. I think I will call again to see if Universal knows something quicker than Pollstar.

Also don't know who Chic feat and Nile Rodgers are. I'm sure they have a hit or two, but those names escape me. And you just proved my point about the 12 year olds not caring about the current lineup. Yes, I grew with them too, and think they're great, but they won't bring the locals out like the Y-100 bands would.

You know, last year, it was kinda cute having the old bands come back, because there was such a variety having concerts during the week and some of the acts we're rock bands. But this year, I'm like, Huh?

Put Simple Plan, and Michelle Branch on the same night and see how many come out. Ask your 12 year old if they know those names, I bet they do.

Yes, with all the music in our house (drums and electric guitars too), I even know them and agree they would be great. They just need to choose something hoppin', not just slow MOR stuff.

Maybe they should have the requirement to have been booked on Saturday Night Live within the past 9 mos :D
