When is Mardi Gras in 2005? Will it increase crowds? Does WDW do anything special for it?

Thanks! :jester:

Fat Tuesday is Feb 8th. I'm not sure if they do anything special at WDW. Our kids are out of school so we will be there Feb 4th through the 12th. I am really hoping for low crowds. I don't think anything else is going on at the world during that time.

I have been to WDW twice during Mardi Gras, once when it was in the second week of Feb. and this year when is was the week after Pres.Day.

The first time coincided with Daytona week too so you might want to check those dates (Daytona 500 race). Crowds started out low and built thru the weekend. We were there Wed. - Tues. with Mardi Gras being the Tues. we left. We thought Monday was very busy!

This year we thought the crowds were very manageable. It actually rained on Fat Tuesday so that may have had an impact on crowds. We were at DTD eating at RFC the Monday night before Fat Tues. and it was mobbed!

I always thought the big Mardi Gras doings were over at US/IOA. Maybe someone else knows.

Universal Studios has a Mardis Gras celebration every year. I haven't ever heard anything about WDW doing anything for it.

Mardi Gras at WDW is busy when it coincides with President's Week or Daytona week, otherwise it is a great time to go.

SInce it is Feb. 8th next year, as WANNABE points out, it does NOT coincide with either event, meaning low to average crowds.

There will be TONS of New Orleanians there, however, escaping the living hell known as Mardi Gras.

Hope to see you at WDW.

DD does have a Mardi Gras celebration (which we also avoid)

During Mardi Gras 2003, there were no Mardi Gras activities at the parks. If you wouldn't have seen people wearing purple, green, & gold shirts & beads you wouldn't have known it was Mardi Gras. I think Pleasure Island had something.

I'm glad that this year it won't coincide with Pres. Week or anything else. It is one of our favorite times to go to WDW. I call it Jean and T Shirt weather. Once, the kids swam but it was still too chilly for me. The parks were very manageable and we may go in 2005.

We will be goig Feb. 6-12th. Not to escape Mardi Gras here in Lafayette, because it is really not that bad here. We are doing it to take advantage of our kids being off of school for a few days. Also because of the low crowds and nice temperatures.

Okay, add me to the list!! :Pinkbounc Just decided to go Feb 5-12 staying at WL and Poly. My mom is going with us so we'll have to stay part of the week at WL for her and part at the Poly for me! :teeth:

Great! You will be joining the rest of us getting out of the madness!

The Daytona 500 is during that time and so is the Superbowl. The Supewbowl is Feb 6 in Jacksonville. I hope these people go to their event and go straight home. No need for them to invade the mouse.
