Marching Our Way to a Healthy Lifestyle ~ March 2016 WISH Challenge

WooHoo Wednesday, March 9th:

WooHoo Wednesday is a very special tradition that we have on these challenge threads – it’s a chance for us to take a break and celebrate our victories (big or small).

So far this week we’ve been marching along with the Pixar Play Parade at Disney California Adventure. While we’re at DCA, we’ll spend today remembering the parade that debuted on Disney California Adventure’s opening day, Disney's Eureka! A California Parade.

This parade, which ran from 2001 through mid-2002, celebrated the many cultures of California.

One of the awesome things about our thread is that we have participants from all around the world (including California), so we get to celebrate our accomplishments around the world. What accomplishments will we celebrate today?
It’s WooHoo Wednesday - what’s your WooHoo for today?

My WooHoo Wednesday is that I got between 11,000-12,000 steps yesterday and ate pretty good. I did have Chiplote for lunch and 2 small treats but still stayed with in my calories. It was so nice to finally get outside and walk around. Mt husband and i walked as my kids rode their bikes. We ended up going for a longer walk then we planned but it was just too beautiful not to be outside. I also walked from my car to my office and then from my office to my car. It is about a half mile each way. When I went to get the Chipolte for lunch (walking distance) I took the longer way back to the office.

I am so far on tract for today. I walked to my office this morning and will hopefully be able to walk to my car this afternoon. We are supposed to get rain today but I think it is more over night and all day tomorrow.

WooHoo Wednesday, March 9th:

Ooh I like this! My woohoo today is that despite having unknown pain in my heel and recovering from an injury I made it to the gym yesterday and had a fairly good workout! I also have started watching what I eat using My Fitness Pal. I've got a long way to go but hopefully my goal of looking good for my Disneymoon will be good incentive!

Hey friends! Sorry I've been MIA lately..... super busy here at work and with fundraisers and driving and more work! I am actually sitting in a training right now, just waiting for everyone to get logged into the right training webpage, so I am truly "stealing" a minute to say hello! Gotta dash!! I PROMISE I'll be back later to chat.... but it may be late tonight!.........P

What herbal supplement do you take? I'm on medicine for an under active thyroid that my doctor said I needed after some blood work was done. I honestly don't feel like it makes any difference. Just wondered what you're taking. Thanks!

Ski_Mom,
It's made by PURE and I think is just called 'Thyroid Support'... I've gotten a couple other brands at Super Supplements that kind of sort of worked, but have decided to stick with this, which I can only get at my doctor's office. Before I was dragging, and never had any energy even when consuming caffeine but now I have plenty of energy for the entire day.

Woohoo Wednesday... I just executed a shift in job responsibilities across different members of the team at work and 1) sold it to everyone involved so they are excited, 2) filled some gaps in the team that have been holding us back and 3) put the right people in the right jobs for future success. This is all new to me so I'm a little gobsmacked that it's all working out.

Not ready to post the woohoo for today (it's only 8:30 and I just got to work), but I wanted to send some  for the old California Adventure theme! The Golden Gate Bridge. The cheese factor of the over use of everything California. It's so spectacular.

As for a woohoo...there's a FroYo run coming to KC! And @courtneybeth's posts about it on here and IG have convinced me that there's no greater run than a run dedicated to froyo. So I'm totally signing up for it. I think I'm going to do the 10K but I can't decide

YES FROYO RUN! :cheer2:

The 10K course will be the 5K course twice - so make sure you look at your 5K course and determine if you want to do it twice. We had a "surprise" hill on ours and those poor 10K folks had to run up that hill twice (100 foot elevation gain in about .25 miles LOL). I did the 5K because it was a good chance to PR. YOU CAN TOTALLY DO THIS. And the froyo is yummy. You get to pick a base flavor and then up to 3 toppings. I had the chocolate base with M&M's, but you could have also had crushed oreos, gummy bears, nuts and I don't remember the fifth.

Thank you very much! I'm going to check it out.

I thought I replied yesterday -- oops! Crazy week over here!

Personally, I think it's worth sharing what you're going through, even if it feels like you're doing it all wrong. There are so many success stories out there, people who did everything right ... but those are the stories I hate sometimes, because they seem so unreal.
I agree!!! I'm finding that it's a daily struggle (at least for me) and it's not just like "do this for 8 months and then pixiedust: you can now fit into the leg of your previous pants and be on an infomercial." It's a battlefield. And I love being able to come on here and read and share the nitty gritty business of getting yourself on track and loosing track and getting back on again.

QOTD (yesterday): One of the things I have been doing is weighing daily. I know there are two camps on this one, but it really inspires me when I see the scale go up to be better that day than I was the day before. I can see the repercussions of eating late or eating a sweet when I shouldn't have and it gets my back on track. Even when it's progressively going up, I still keep doing it so I can see how badly I need to get back on track. We also keep the scale in the kitchen now which is both frightening and motivating when I am in the process of getting a sweet and then slowly return it to cabinet.... I also have taken to looking at old pictures of me which inspire me to get back to where I was when I have been or feel like eating everything in the house. And I was no skinny minnie by any stretch (a solid size 10 occasional 8) but I was happy and healthy and comfortable in that body. Looking at the pictures reminds me it's a super real and fairly easy obtainable goal and I just need to get back on the wagon and get serious!

Woohooing--- Digging deep to woohoo today. My scale was not as nice to me today as it was yesterday, and I know exactly what I did (and it involved a handful of m&ms and pretzels while watching TV last night.... :rolleyes1) so for a NSV I am woohooing that tonight is family dinner at my cousin's house (she is practically my sister so I love going over to her house), plus she is a good cook! So I am woohoo-- a good dinner tonight that I don't have to cook!

Update for last week because I've been traveling :)

I was great on my goals - got in my long run on Friday before leaving for a few days, and did all my strength workouts!

This week is a little weird because of the traveling, but I got right back to working out again today, so even though my percentage might not be great this week I'm counting that as improvement!

10K runs: 3/3
Challenge workouts: 5/5

One full week out of 5 or so in March, so 20% of my goal accomplished :)

I think I'm jinxed by the Woohoo Wednesday. When bad things happen to me, they seem to be Wednesday morning. This morning it's been work drama and my son fell on his way to the bus stop and his face is all scraped up.

As far as the weight loss goes, things have been good - no complaints (I've lost a pound each of the last two mornings). My steps stink today because I've been dealing with work stuff, but I've been jogging a lot more at home lately. I've also been scrambling to eat more the last few days because my calorie intake wasn't enough... that still seems so strange to me.

I guess my biggest WooHoo is that I took off a half day on Friday and the whole family will be going to see Zootopia Friday night.

WooHoo Wednesday: It is 75 degrees at my house in Central Mass. In March. pixiedust:

Plus, I just got back from a 5 mile run, and I was hot, not freezing. Fabulous!

For this weeks challenge, here are my pictures of one of my favorite running routes.

The top two are from the Central Mass Rail Trail. It is an almost 3 mile (one way) packed dirt trail used by runners, walkers and bikers. Today it was very muddy and rutty from bikes, but with the beautiful weather I enjoyed it anyway. The bottom is from the trail head looking toward a smaller basin of our reservoir, I like to run around this basin, it is a four mile loop and great for hills. If I want longer distances I can do it twice, or run onto the rail trail and back out at some point in the loop. The basin is where I often see swans in the winter, but alas they have left again until next year.

It’s WooHoo Wednesday - what’s your WooHoo for today?

My WooHoo today is the weather. It's gorgeous out. So gorgeous that I might even walk home from Starbucks ... and that's uphill (and I have my laptop, which is not super heavy, but not light).

I had a rough start to the week food wise. This weekend I just kinda said "eff it" and ate whatever I wanted. I think it was honestly a great way to reset my brain and get me back into the plan because I've been great since then and haven't had any cravings that are taking me down. So I don't expect a loss this week based on how much I weighed in at today. But I know that weight fluctuations are a part of life and as long as I keep it at a couple pounds up and then get right back on plan then that's normal. So overall, I feel like this weekend was a great mental exercise for me in understanding that it's not just go,go,go until I hit my goal weight and then never enjoy a weekend of delicious food or eat something unhealthy ever again.

It's definitely hard when you have a rough week, but I love your attitude - every experience can teach us something, and it's awesome that you took this as an opportunity to "reset your brain" and learn that weight fluctuations can be a part of your journey.

As for a woohoo...there's a FroYo run coming to KC! And @courtneybeth's posts about it on here and IG have convinced me that there's no greater run than a run dedicated to froyo. So I'm totally signing up for it. I think I'm going to do the 10K but I can't decide. My DH is usually my running partner and after our last run last year he majorly fell off the bandwagon and hasn't really gotten back on. And so I'm not sure how interested he is in running with me.

FroYo run!!! WooHoo!! I've never done one, but it really does sound like an awesome experience.
Hopefully the froyo will interest your DH enough to get him off the couch and back on the bandwagon!

My WooHoo Wednesday is that I got between 11,000-12,000 steps yesterday and ate pretty good. I did have Chiplote for lunch and 2 small treats but still stayed with in my calories. Awesome job getting in those steps! WooHoo!

Awesome WooHoo! Hopefully these are the first steps in an awesome new direction!

No worries, we understand being busy ... I hope you've been able to find some time for exercise with everything you've had going on!

Woohoo Wednesday... Yes! WooHoo! It's always awesome when things are going well at work!

Not ready to post the woohoo for today (it's only 8:30 and I just got to work), but I wanted to send some  for the old California Adventure theme! The Golden Gate Bridge. The cheese factor of the over use of everything California. It's so spectacular.

Yes! I'm not alone! Everyone talks about Buena Vista Street and the new theme ... I liked it better the old way, it just felt like California!
My first trip to the west coast was in 2009, so I didn't really see the "good old days" (they had already started World of Color construction), but I LOVED the old entrance and theming. The golden gate bridge ... I may have liked that one better than the actual Golden Gate Bridge! (It was easier to get the whole thing in a picture).

QOTD (yesterday): One of the things I have been doing is weighing daily. I know there are two camps on this one, but it really inspires me when I see the scale go up to be better that day than I was the day before. I'm a big believer in the idea that whatever works best for you is a good idea - and if weighing every day works to help keep you on track, do it!

Woohooing--- Digging deep to woohoo today. Fun family dinners that you don't have to cook are always worth a WooHoo!

It's always nice to hear that things are going well! And yeah, the eating more thing is hard to get used to - when I up my activity level, I always struggle with learning to eat more.

I guess my biggest WooHoo is that I took off a half day on Friday and the whole family will be going to see Zootopia Friday night.

Awesome! I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things about it!

WooHoo Wednesday: It is 75 degrees at my house in Central Mass. In March. pixiedust:

Okay, I know I still owe you guys my response to the challenge ... I took pictures on Sunday, but I keep forgetting to post them. I don't want to do it from Starbucks because the wifi here hates me, but hopefully I'll do it as soon as I get home. So somebody remind me to post them if I don't do it over the next few hours...

@DVCFan1994 took my first woohoo. It's AMAZING here right now such a beautiful day! I've taken it pretty easy so far. I went for a walk and was reading on my porch and ended up cooking a fab meal (and spammed it on my instagram). I'm saving my run for later so I can have a nice twilight run.

I'm also so thankful for friends I've made on the boards lately. Two people with AP passes didn't think twice about offering me access to early registration for the avengers 10k because I'll be in a plane during the main registration. I'm also super excited to get to help out @JacknSally with her amazing etsy! Big woohoo to the friends I've made on the boards.

I've got my Disneyland plans and reservations made which is an amazing feeling thank you to @courtneybeth for making a few of them, and helping me figure out where exactly I should eat.

Personal woohoo is my 6 month long main source of stress is going to have a resolution this week. I'm most likely not going to like the resolution but I can't wait to have that weight off my shoulders.

Health woohoo is I feel good. I need to eat more (which I realized even more after reading some of the posts on here), but I feel good. I feel healthier than I ever have, and I'm starting to not be disgusted when I look in the mirror. Over all health is actually helping my body image. Who knew that was actually a thing and not just something that people said hahah.

My Woohoos:

1) I'm getting my rain jacket back today! DH has a coworker who has a friend who does embroidery, so we sent my rain jacket to her to get it monogrammed (I'm obsessed). His coworker then got really sick and ended up in the hospital, so we haven't been able to get it from the embroiderer. But now she is well and my DH got my jacket today, so it will be back home tonight. Which is really good because it's not supposed to stop raining for the rest of the week, haha.

2) My office/craft room is coming together, slowly but surely. DH has been building the desk for it, and once we get it in there, we can get the rest of the room set up. He finally finished the desktop last night so I was able to stain it this morning and it's just sitting in the garage now waiting to dry and be polyurethaned! Yayayay.

3) I have to go to Hobby Lobby tonight, and I'm never not excited to go to Hobby Lobby.

We're also signed up for a Gilmore Girls trivia night tonight, but I don't know that we'll go. It's gross and rainy out, and it's being put on by the same guy who did the Disney trivia we went to, and he just wasn't into it. Took a lot of the fun out of it.

Also, this is going to make me sound very argumentative/negative Nancy, and I don't mean it to. But @Flossbolna - I read your post, and I super appreciate your sweet and supportive words!! I say I didn't do anything and it just melted off, because the majority of my loss happened in September and October, especially immediately before the wedding, and during those months I really wasn't doing anything.. We had gotten so busy and stressed that we'd given up on our diet and exercise and had resorted back to eating out all the time and odd sleeping hours, trying to get things done. Somehow, some way, it worked and I had some big numbers.

Regardless, I did feel better on my diet, and I'm going to give that a try again. My big problem is getting burnt out on the foods that fall into the high-protein, low-carb guidelines. There's only so many ways to marinate chicken!

Wow. Joined up to this yesterday and I've already hit a potentioal set back! I've had some unexplained heel pain for about a month and we've ruled out plantar fasciatis and tendonitis. Physio's conclusion was that I've damaged the fat pad on my heel. Well I saw the doc today and we've taken x-rays to help rule out a stress fracture! If those come back negative then I'll be going in for a bone scan to fully eliminate the stress fracture. Ugh... I almost want it to be positive because then I would have an answer but at the same time it would mean six weeks off my feet! So frustrating... I'll just keep eating healthy and lightly working out in the mean time. This just sucks...

A damaged foot pad sounds just awful!!! So sorry for you. Hopefully it's something that can be healed up quickly!

My woohoo for this week is that we are down to just some minor things to do for the show. And my fellow costumer is coming back tonight. YEA. She has been home since last Friday with a bad sinus infection.

Personal woohoo is my 6 month long main source of stress is going to have a resolution this week. I'm most likely not going to like the resolution but I can't wait to have that weight off my shoulders.

Even if it doesn't get resolved in a way you like, it's definitely nice to have that weight off your shoulders.

Awesome!! Feeling good is really what matters most, and it's so amazing that you've reached a point where you do feel good.

Oh no! I hope everything turns out okay and you're still able to do some exercising. Take care of your foot!

Yay! Awesome WooHoos - it'll be great to have the other costumer there to help you!

This Week’s Challenge:
Are you a walker/runner? Show us some pictures of your favorite walking or running path!
Not a walker or runner? Show us pictures of one of your favorite spots – whether it’s somewhere you go to exercise or just somewhere you enjoy sitting and thinking!
If you can, spend 30 minutes in your favorite spot or path this week, then come back and tell us what you did! If you can’t make it to your special spot, spend 30 minutes exercising while imagining that you’re in your special spot. Tell us what you imagined you were doing there!

My favorite running path is an area I discovered over the summer. I used to run almost exclusively in a local park, but there was no shade there, and we had a record heat wave this past summer ... it wasn't fun. A family friend who I used to see in the park mentioned that she was walking on a different path - I said "thanks" and went on my way ... mostly because I had no idea what/where this path was. Well, I did my research, and I discovered it, found my way there ... and now I run all of my long runs there and some of my mid-length runs too.

It's not super close to my house (it's like a 15-20 minute walk), so I usually run through the park first and then run over there). But here are some pictures:
Path1.jpg Path3.jpg Path5.jpg

I love it because it's so peaceful! It's isolated enough that it's quiet and never super crowded, but there are enough people there that I never feel unsafe, and its close enough to civilization that if anything happens and I can't run anymore, I can easily get to a bus that I can take home (whether I have my metrocard (aka bus/subway pass) on me is a different story). I don't love the bicyclists or some of the hills (the path has a lot of rolling hills), but overall it's a great place to run and I have yet to get bored of it, even though I run on it almost every week.
I wish I had pictures of it with leaves actually on the trees, when it's so beautiful, but ... I don't know what I did with those pictures (I know I took pictures at some point...).

Here's some info about my path and how it came to be, if you're interested:
Long Island Motor Parkway / Brooklyn-Queens Greenway
Long Island Motor Parkway (this one talks about what it was originally (aka a highway) and what it is now ... interesting stuff if you're interested in the history of roads and what happens to old roads that can't fit new cars)

Ok, here is my woohoo story: I was going to post earlier today how my woohoo was that I got out of bed early to go for a nice walk (still a bit too affected by the cold to go for a run, I don't want to start training too early) before work and then had a great day with regard to eating. I also had a plan for a nice dinner that was in my calorie budget. And then the bad thing happened: I got hungry on my way home from work and hungrier and hungrier. Before heading home I needed to stop at the supermarket to get some provisions for tomorrow (yoghurt and apples for breakfast, bread for my lunch). That was the first mistake.

The second was that I saw some new type of chocolate that sounded delicious. Normally chocolate is not so bad for me as I am not tempted to binge eat it. I can very well just eat one piece at a time. So, I picked that up as a treat after dinner. At the cash register where they have all the tempting candy the lady in front of me picked up a mini packet of oreos (6 cookies) and then a second one and made a comment how these are so difficult to resist and we chatted a bit about them. This tempted me to pick a packet as well. For future eating of course!! I get home and am now starving. I do get this very low blood sugar and unfortunately nothing really helps than eating and then waiting until the food that I have eaten kicks in. My doctor says that it is nothing to worry about, I just should try to eat more snacks between meals to avoid it... Anyway, back at home I realize that there is no way I can cook my planned dinner as I would eat half the kitchen in the meantime. So, I change my plan and come up with a very healthy and delicious plan B that can be eaten immediately without any cooking. So I eat my dinner. It is delicious, but I am still as hungry afterwards as I was before. So, I try to find something else to eat that is healthy, filling and low in calorie. At first this works, but then things get out of hand! I eat all 6 oreos (that's why I only buy these small packages!), half the chocolate bar and some ice cream from the freezer and when I was heading for some more cheese I finally was able to not eat it!! I even kept thinking of all of you here and how I hated to fail so miserably at my own goals. At the same time I was so cold and seemed to not be able to warm up at all.

So, I decided in order to warm up I would take a hot bath. That would also prevent me from returning to the kitchen for a while and be tempted to eat more. The bath warmed me up nicely and when I got out I had energy again! I went to the computer and read all of your woohoos for the day and that motivated me to track all the stuff that I ate earlier. At least I kept measuring most of it (some things start becoming second nature after some time...). And then I realized that it was not so horrible as I had thought. Who would have thought that my ice cream was actually not as bad as I expected it to be as it seems to have lots of air in it! Anyway. I looked at my calorie balance as it was now and saw that if I would go for a walk, I would at least be able to not have eaten more calories today than I earned. So, that's what I did at 9:40pm! I went out for a nice 45 minute walk. My step total for the day is over 20.000 and I will have a calorie deficit of about 150 kcal for the day!! I missed my goal of 750 kcal deficit by far, but at least it is a deficit - and that is my woohoo of the day!!
