Marching Band!

Instrument: Piccolo
Years you have played that instrument: Piccolo for 3 but flute for 5-6
Year: Junior, 2nd year marching.
Do you have marching band "camp": Yep. From 9-3 (with hour lunch) the week and a half before we started school.

Now that school has started we have practice every morning from 8:15-9:15am and on Thursdays from 7:45-9:15am. Then for all of September we have practices from 7pm-9pm, also.

I love marching band :) I'm a co-section leader this year!

Our show last year was Aaron Copland. This year we are doing The Planets by Holst!! The year before that they did (we don't march as freshman) James Bond, lol.

Our commands are:

Mark Time
Forward March
Back March
Right/Left Slide
To end its Freeze-Close

We played that my sophomore year! The show was called The Music of Joseph Curiale: Call of the Mountain, Adelina de Maya, River of Tears, and Joy.
haha, our conductors must have similar taste because last year, our band also played "river of tears"

we're not too strict about memorizing, but this year our band director really wants us too.

yay! maching band camp today again (:
but the dumb football team is on the field til 11:30
):

our conductor is very strict about memorization. we had another rehearsal tonight, looks like we might play our first varsity game ;)

/
well...I'd say atleast 80% of the band memorized sing, sing, sing and watermelon man. (:
band camp is over
):

Instrument: Clarinet
Years you have played that instrument: 7
Year: Senior
Do you have marching band "camp": Yep. It was the last week of July.

Aaaaand.. this year is our trip year.. and we're going to Disney!! :goodvibes

Some of our songs will be:
-With A Little Help From My Friends
-The Long & Winding Road
-Eleanor Rigby
-All You Need Is Love
...and one other but I forget what it is. xD

So yeah, it's a Beatles show..called Invasion..
here's a picture of the logo on the back of our shirts:

We played Beatles Ala Jazz last year. Our songs were..
Magical Mystery Tour
Something
Can't Buy Me Love/Magical Myster Tour

The middle song, yes it was called something. Non Beatles fans thought that we just didn't know the name of the song.

Football games could possibly be my most favorite part of marching band. So could band camp and tournaments.

i hope we get to play our first varsity game! it's the second week of school and the only game at home in september, so our conductor is having second thoughts..he said we played "exceptionally" the other day so..maybe.

Football games are pointless to me and my band. They only care to acknowledge us when we play the fight song when they score. Otherwise they could care less that it's us entertaining the crowd before the game with a ton of songs, us playing the star spangled banner, us playing cheers throughout the whole game to rile up the crowds, us learning a halftime show come october for them when we have time, and us playing music in the end as everyone leaves when we want to go change out of our uniforms too.

To me, marching band solely means comp. band and actually competing against other schools in the state while playing 12 minute shows that actually occupy 15 mins. THOSE are fun and feel meaningful.

Maybe I just dislike my football team too much considering how little they care about us.

I think football games are the only time we get along with the cheerleaders. They have routines to some of our songs & shout along with the fight songs, etc. The crowd really gets in to our stand music too.

I love, love, love football games. That might be because I was raised on football since I was born. [Ironically, right in the middle of football season.] Idk.

There's something I just love about games.

Haha, our cheerleaders and band director don't get along well. The other night, at rehearsal, they were blasting loud rap music in the gym (we were practicing in the parking lot), and that was all we could hear. our director runs to the doors and shuts them. 2min later, they open up lol. also, when the football team or cheerleaders drive by, they beep loudly and continuously.

Eh, they beep horns at us too, but we get back at them by making fun of the football team (who didn't have a very good season last year) and the cheerleaders (because of stereotypes.)

Very fun, but unsportsmanlike, I know.

my marching band always makes jokes about how sucky our football team is...:D

last year the team got pissed when a trumpet player and baritone player kept playing..omg i don't know what it's called!

>.<

it's that
wa waa waaaaaa

like..remember kevin the seacucumber from that spongebob episode?
it's that wa wa waaa the one fish does when spongebob did it better than kevin.

our football team is actually really good (they one our leagues "superbowl" last year) so we can't make fun of them....unfortunately.

LOL that's amazing!! A trumpet did that when a cheerleader fell when they were running laps, and our conductor flipped. he went on a 20min. rant about holding up the good name of our high school, because we were ranked in the top 5% of the country for music programs last year, and he wants to hold up that reputation:rolleyes:

Hah, we can't dare do that to our home team. But when the away team drops the ball or such, we can play something like that. It's not the wah wah waaaahhhhh. But we play.....gar, how to sound it out. Hm, it's played on the trumpet as C, B, B-flat, A (while wiggling the second valve) So I guess: Wah, wah, wah, waahhh-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah? XD
