Finally after years of 'thinking' of doing it we are planning a March break trip to California so I'm hoping for some info/help. It will be everyone's first time there - I can't count the time we went when I was 4 yrs old as I don't remember it!!

Cast consists of Myself, dh, 17yo ds, 12yods and gramma and grampa.

Our plan right now is to fly into LAX (or surrounding airport depending on prices) on a Wednesday. Stay for 3 nights *somewhere* in LA convienient to see some of the main attractions. Move to the GC DVC resort on the Saturday for 4 nights to do 2 days at DL and not sure what else for the other 2 days. Then to keep mil happy we will be heading to Vegas for 3 nights. Hoping to do a grand canyon tour there. Then we will fly home from Vegas.

Can someone suggest somewhere in LA area to stay (and where we should be thinking of staying) My budget is maximum $200/night... less would be better! What about top attractions to see/do?

And how about in Vegas? similar budget. We would like to stay on the strip but the number and variety of hotels are very overwhelming. Mil is going for the casino's and the rest of us are going to just see the sights and the boys are along for the ride ;)

Thanks!

We have always just stayed near Disney and drove into LA for sightseeing, but I have heard Magic Castle and Farmer's Daughter are good hotels for price and location.

Are you only going to have 2 day passes to DL? I would really suggest at least 3 days. JMHO

As far as Vegas, we like the Flamingo for location and price. I think Bally's would be good too. We have friends that love The Monte Carlo. I think anywhere on the strip that you can get a good price is fine, but we like that corner where you have The Flamingo, Bally's, Ceasars Palace and The Bellagio. Stay away from the far ends. . .Circus Circus, Stratosphere, and Riviera. . .it gets seedy down there. HTH

ETA- both Flamingo and Monte Carlo have great pools if you are going to have the kids with you.

I would check Tripadvisor for the hotels you listed. They are rated fine, but you might find others. As for Vegas, I go every year with friends (all Moms) and often with my family. I suggest Mandalay Bay, the MGM Grand (great location on the monorail and good rates), or the Wynn (just wonderful). I have stayed at many, many hotels and overall the MGM has lots of features (close the NY/NY for rollercoaster, monorail to hotels for food, good onsite food, etc). Have fun!! I live in So cal, so I would check out the hotels you listed, as they have a ton around Disney, or near by.

Thanks!

We decided that the extra points would be well spent and ended up booking 2 studio's at GC from the Wednesday we arrive to the following Tuesday when we'll head to Vegas - we'll drive into LA - I didn't realize it was such a short drive!!

Now to check out what to see/do and hotels for Vegas!!
