March Rate oddity question

The updated discount announced today was exactly what my family and I were looking for as we are getting ready for a spring break (Late March) trip.

The odd thing was that the prices for our window 25-30 March were actually better as we added extras.

For example, when we did our initial price check through the Annual passholder site, our rate was $1,375 before taxes, for a standard room. The new early spring discount was $1,500 for the same dates, but was for a upper level theme park view, the actual standard view was more expensive at $1,525. The odd thing was when we checked Concierge, (something we have been dying to try) the add on was actually only $205, or $1,705 before taxes. This represented only a modest $310 increase over our lowest price we could find and we went ahead and called to book it, and ended up with the exact same rates, but some extra AP perks, such as the collectible lanyards and some preferred seating.

Sorry to drone on, but does this happen alot? seemed odd so we actually called and the lovely CM said it happens quite a bit normally during the initial days of a promotion. We really wanted to do the GCH, but we are nearly $400 cheaper and with Concierge Theme Park View, seemed a no brainer.

Thanks,

There are frequently times where the general public promotion that is released ends up being than the AP-holder price at first. That said, in my experience of following prices, the closer you get to the travel dates, Disneyland may frequently release "even better" AP rates on the AP site. For example, when I stayed at PPH last year, at first, when I booked, the AP rates weren't out yet, so the special promotion that they offered to all guests was 30% off the room, whereas the AP rate was only 10% off. I called Disneyland to ask and they told me that yes, in that case, I'd actually be better booking the non-AP rate. Then, about 6 weeks before my trip, they released the "real" AP rate, which was 35% off the price of the room, so it ended up being marginally better than the general promotion if that makes sense? I'd book the room-only so you can cancel, but still keep an eye on the AP rates just in case!

It happens when they are booked up on the less expensive rooms but not the more expensive rooms. I had posted a couple of months ago that the thème park concierge room at PPH was cheaper than a standard non concierge! It was for the race weekend and they had most of the hotel booked.

Either way, thank you OP for posting as I have just adjusted my reservation to include an Upper Resort View room for $197 less than what we originally reserved. Better room, less money, can't beat that.

Now my delimma is do we go for GCH view room for $150 more than what we orginally budgeted? Short of this latest promo deal we would have not been able to afford CGH?

Thoughts?
