Hello Dis Pals!
I know there are a lot of us on this board from New Jersey / New York, so I thought I might ask here. I am going to do the March of Dimes walk in Belmar, NJ Sunday April 27th, and I was wondering if any of you would like to join the cause. We could make our own Dis team! I know I'm not giving a lot of notice, but I just signed up for it myself. The walk is only about 3 miles, you have to be there by 9am for registration at the Taylor Pavilion - Belmar Fifth Avenue & Ocean Avenue.
I think this is a very important cause for many of us. I have been very lucky, I have two beautiful girls who are totally healthy (knock on wood). Not everyone in the world has had this - lots of women and families have complications with their pregnancies and newborns, maybe even some of us on this board.
I just feel that it is my duty to give back as much as I can. As mothers, as women, we need to do what we can to make the world a better place - this is just one way to do it. Whos with me?

UGH! I would have met you there, but I just last night RSVP'd to a Christening that we have for THAT DAY - It figures, I have nothing going on for weeks, then things start popping up on the same day. And I haven't been on the Belmar boardwalk in ages. Would have been fun - too bad. But if you want to do the JDRF one they have there in the fall, I'm in!

I have a friend (lives in CT) who became very involved with March of Dimes after giving birth to her VERY PREEMIE but thankfully healthy baby girl. It's a great organization. I'd love to sponsor you though if you're taking donations - send me a PM.

I want to thank you for doing the walk! I am doing the walk here in WV. I had a preemie back in 2006. She was 10 weeks 5 days early and weighed in at 2 lbs 9 oz when born. At 29 days old she had heart surgery for a defect we didn't know she had and probably wouldn't have found until she was 2 or 3 without her being a preemie. She is now a happy healthy 20 month old!

As a preemie mom, I just wanted to say Thank you for walking! :thumbsup2
Having a healthy, full term baby is something that most people assume will happen - when it doesn't, it's certainly a life-changing experience! My DS was 10 weeks early and underwent 3 surgeries before he turned 6 months (one to remove 1/2 of his large intestines at 10 days old). He is now a very healthy & happy 3 year old!

We'll be walking on May 4th in PA!:cool1:

Oooh, SharpMomofTwo, this sounds like such a great idea! And it would serve two purposes, to raise money and awareness for such a wonderful cause and to help out toward our goal of losing weight for Mickey! ;) Can you tell me a little bit more about it? What time does it start and end? Do I get pledges from people? What is the distance? Working as a speech therapist in Early Intervention, I see many little ones who gave it all they've got to be here and some still struggling, especially with feeding. I'd love to be a part of it! Thanks for the suggestion!

Greetings,

My name is Sarah, I live in the Monmouth County area, and I am a wife and mother of two beautiful, healthy girls. As a mother, I am very enthusiastic about all children, and I try to do as much as I can for their well-being. For this reason, I have decided to dedicate time, effort and funds to the March of Dimes. I, along with many others, will be walking the Belmar Boardwalk Sunday, April 27th in a five mile walk to help raise money and awareness for this amazing cause. Did you know that prematurity is the leading killer of America's newborns. Those who survive often have lifelong health problems, including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, chronic lung disease, blindness and hearing loss. Preterm delivery can happen to any pregnant woman. In about four out of every 10 cases, the causes are unknown. The March of Dimes has taken on this devastating problem—to find out what causes it and how it can be stopped. The March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign is a multimillion-dollar research, awareness and education campaign to help families have healthier babies.

The March of Dimes is doing their best to help find cures, but they cannot do it alone, they need our help. Your donation is going to an amazing cause, a cause which may one day, help you or a loved one. I am asking you to open your hearts and wallets – not for me, but for The March of Dimes, and all those amazing, but helpless babies and families out there that need your help. Sunday, April 27th I will be walking in the memory of my nephew, Sullivan James – he was a premie who beat the odds, but sadly left this earth too soon, at only 16 years of age. Please help others like my nephew live a long and fulfilling life.

Thank you,
Sarah
