March Break 2021 - Flight Strategy

The Ottawa Public board is starting March break a day early as well (though I'm not sure if that was to be voted on?) So it would start on the Friday before, which would be great for flights I think! Being able to fly on Friday instead of the weekend and still not missing any school.

I don't think they are starting March break early next year. Parents voted no on that and it doesn't show on the tentative calendar

We flew on porter out of Melbourne to Ottawa last year. If the flights work timing wise it's a million times better than flying into or out of mco

Thanks. I've heard Melbourne is nicer. I'm guessing the downside is fewer flights.

There are no direct flights from Toronto so would only consider it on the return.

Not sure if others answered...do people recommend booking as soon as flights are released? i.e. first purchase your ticket to get there when it comes out. Then when the return opens up, purchase it. This worked for us a couple years ago from Tor to MIA but not sure if still the best strategy and if to MCO is the same.

I’m not sure, but I think you may pay double in some taxes doing it this way? I feel like I did this a few years ago, and a one way flight cost me double the taxes than if I had booked it as a return flight. Does anyone else know if this is true? In that case it may be better to wait until both flights are released.

Porter used to fly to Melbourne from Ottawa and Toronto. We flew with them. They don't seem to be offering it anymore. Too bad.

My friend lives in the GTA and took southwest from Buffalo. It was cheap and included 2 bags.

I used to be addicted to booking a long time in advance for trips to WDW (From Toronto). Then I noticed this year, for March Break, Air Canada added lots of extra capacity for weekend flights. A week ago, flights to Orlando (for March 13 or 14) could be gotten for slightly above $200 per seat.

I bought in Oct, and paid a lot more than that. Never again.

Don't be too sure that wasn't in response to a large number of cancellations or sudden availability of planes that would otherwise be going to China. I've never seen prices like that so close to a sailing or if there were, it was on the redeye flights.

Yeah...true as what's going on now affects things differently from the norm.
Also, we're flying to MCO for a cruise so we aren't flexible on dates.
