March airline tickets

There are 4 adults going to DW, March 9th to the 18th. Unfortunately, these dates are not flexible. Right now, on Kayak the lowest airfare is about $398 each. Is our time frame considered spring break and that is why the fare is so high. We flew to MCO last May and our tickets were about $240. I am really hoping these prices come down. We are flying out of Washington Dulles. When I priced tickets out of Regan they were even more. What do you all think?

Thanks!

I just checked Bing and US Air out of Reagan is $279 and Delta starts at $290 per person.

Yep... That's march break for quite a few areas, Ontario, Canada in particular.
I am going the exact same dates, and needed very specific times on those days.
I booked jet blue as soon as they were released, and prices have skyrocketed since then for the flights I booked( over$500 each way!)

Buf- mco March 9th- $159 non stop
Mco -BUF. March 18 - $139 non stop

Right now, nonstop on AIRTRAN is$169 ( return is not released yet)
and southwest's non stops are all sold out for March 9th ( return not released yet) and fares are in the $200s with a stop over.
I would book if you are ok with $290.! Jmo!

Thanks for the info. I guess I am being too picky. I do not want US Air because the flight times I want are provided by a regional carrier. Delta does not have the flight times I want either. Jetblue has the exact times I want out of Dulles, but the cost is high. I am hoping that the prices come down somewhat on Jetblue. When Jetblue opened up that time frame, ticket prices were about $25 cheaper on the way there, but are still about the same for the trip home.

We were running into a similar problem. We're going March 6-10, so our flight home was considered part of the spring break surge.

We REALLY wanted to fly JetBlue and when they extended the schedule through next spring we jumped online to buy tickets. Then we found out that the return flight (MCO to IAD) would be $287 alone!

We ended up checking the schedules on United and they had flights that were almost the same times as JetBlue and was $213 round-trip (IAD to MCO, MCO to IAD).

Bottom line, check other airlines, they may have flights close to what you want for less than JetBlue is demanding for next spring.

Missyrose, when did you purchased your tickets through United? I have been checking United for the past week, maybe not as early as I should have been, right now round trip is about $386, not good.

Sunday July 17. Literally, went to the JetBlue Web site at noon when they're schedule extended, got their sticker shock :scared1: and scooted right over to United.

What days of the week are you trying to fly? That can also play into how high the prices are.

I am trying to fly in on Friday and out on Sunday, the two most expensive days. I tried to get DH to leave on Thurs and return on Mon, airfare would be way down. But, the savings would be eaten up on hotel rooms, car rental expense and food. We may just drive if things do not improve.

Yes - considered to be spring break in most areas and also peak flying days Friday and Sunday. Traveling during mid-week and off season is when you can usually find the cheapest airfare.

We need to fly March 3 and right now it's $133pp on SW.Which is higher than last year, however our first leg has always been in Feb. I never thought of "spring break" price increases. Should I book now? are they just going to go higher. I'm kinda a novice when it comes to ticket price fluctuations.

Is that $133 round-trip? If it is then that sounds like a really good price. Where are you flying to Orlando from?

Sorry should have mentioned that. There one way tickets from CMH to MCO for $133. Our second leg of the trip Mar 10 hasn't been released yet. We have a family of 4 :) WE really like SW nonstop flights with our now 3yr old

Everything in March seems to be higher-priced than February. And March 10 seems to be the first day of "Spring Break season." So you should probably bank on your return trip costing more than the March 3 flight.

The best advice I've seen by the travel experts about airline fares is that if you find a fare you can live with, jump on it. The up side is if the fare drops, SW will give you a credit. So if you can live with that $133, then jump on it. But if you hold out, know that there's a more than decent chance the fares could rise because it is such a popular time of year to travel.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes
