March 24, 2012 - 6 Night Western

1st time cruisers. 4 Generations in 3 cabins last March on the Dream. Kids, Mom an Dad, Grand Parents and Great Grand Parents.

Great Grandmother (83) Never outside USA, Never on a Cruise ship. Great Grandfather (85) hadn't been on a ship since WW2. They usually vacation in Florida or Hawaii.

Cabins were spread out since they went GTY so first day on board we walked to each others cabins to get a feel for the ship. I explained the navigators and everyone did their own thing for the rest of the trip. We always ate Breakfast and Dinner together and we would go over what we wanted to do the next day. Sometimes this was stuff together sometimes not.

Great grandmother said after the cruise that it was the most relaxed and pampered she had ever been on any vacation. The whole group is back together on this cruise!!!

My mom and dad are on this cruise and we are celebrating my mom's 75th birthday. It is the first time they have ever taken a trip like this.

Wonderful to hear!

This all makes me feel better. I'm just a little worried since my mother-in-law will be alone. I don't want her dwelling on bittersweet memories or feeling lonely and left out of events (she is 76 and not as quick energetic). Who am I kidding, as parents, we aren't as energetic either! Those kids can wear you out! :rotfl:
This is the trip her and her husband had planned to take for their 30th wedding anniversary. Sadly, he died in a car accident before the trip happened. Now, 15 years later she gets to experience the cruise (better late than never), but now with 2 of her grandkids. Our goal---to enjoy every minute of it!!!:lovestruc:cloud9:

I am happy to go along with what ever you think will work the best. Thank you for organizing this!!!:thumbsup2

My MIL just made her reservation, so she is officially joining us on the cruise (God help us all ;)). Just kidding. She's very sweet and we can't wait for her to experience it. She is in room 5014, and her name is Marilyn. I figure she can just see our FE to get an understanding of it all and not participate. But, my kids really want to make her one to hang on her door. Not sure about it all yet, though.

We love WDW so decided to try cruise for Spring Break. Stumbled upon this site looking for Magic info, not quite sure posting correctly:confused3

FE looks fun, please add our family.
Cabin 8522

Thanks,

Welcome to the cruise! Once summer is over and people are in the house more, these threads usually get going much more. Great way for the whole family to get to meet people ahead of time.

Good idea to cut off the FE approx 2 months prior and divide the group from there as needed.

We'll be flying in from the west coast for this cruise and the flight prices are killing me. :scared1:

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and hope for a little magic for those plane tickets.

I know what you mean about airfare. Flying out of Manitoba, we are lucky to get under $700 per person after taxes. I think it is a 39 hour drive one way so flying is still the only option I'm willing to look at!

My family and I would like to be added to the list and participate in the FE.

In cabin 7550 is me - Jenny, DH Craig, DS Noah 9, DD Chloe 7.
In cabin 7552 is my mom - Susan, and my DS Zach 11.

Thanks

Wow! I haven't checked this thread in a few weeks, because I was getting ready for school to start. Our group is getting bigger and bigger! :cool1: I can't wait to meet everyone in person.

I'm getting going on the FE's for mine and my mother's rooms. I read on other threads that people bought organizers from Target that they only had to decorate the pockets, but they thought they were too wide. What is a ballpark guess of how wide they should be that wouldn't be too wide to fit on the wall?

When I said I was getting going on the FE's I really meant I was getting my mom on that task. She is the crafty one, but from this point on I may take credit for them. Depending on how they turn out.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We are tentatively planning to be on this cruise. I just noticed in the "Itinerary" on the reservation page that it says we are only in Grand Cayman from 10:45 - 4:30. (Perhaps that is the soonest they can get to Grand Cayman from PC with only a sea day?? On a 7 night Western they have a stop in Key West before the sea day leaving less distance to cover) Anyway, when I saw this I was really disappointed since Grand Cayman was one of the main reasons we were interested in this cruise. Do you think they will have to eliminate some of the excursions offered because of the limited time?

Thanks! Yes, we are looking forward to meeting everyone. It's been fun reading the trip reports.

Forgot to mention, both of my boys are allergic to ALL NUTS. I hope this doesn't inconvenient anyone.

So sorry it took so long for me to respond to all the new people. The start of school and after school activities :scared1: had me scambling these last couple of weeks. I am now settling into the groove...I'll never have it and weeknite meal planning under control, but at least now I have time to check in here. ;)
Welcome Aboard! I added your info to post #2 and the google doc FE list.

Ahoy new cruisers! I added your info to post #2 and the FE doc as well.

Hope you decide to join us! I don't have any info about Grand Cayman for you. When I booked the cruise the port times were 7:30-3 for Grand Cayman. They have changed once or twice since then.

We will have a lot of 11-12 yr olds boys on this cruise!.. My son is 11 (Hunter) and turns 12 the week prior to our cruise. It would be great if they all got to know each other. Typically, my daughter makes tons of friends quickly in the kids club while my son never meets anyone while onboard. He likes The Edge okay, but doesn't hang out there more than an hour or so each day. He really hopes to have others to play Shuffleboard and ping pong with. He's not into basketball so he doesn't hang out at the sports deck much either. Does anyone else have a son like this?

While my boys Jack & Kevin (11) are looking forward to the sports deck and The Edge, they are flexible and love to play ping pong, shuffleboard & board/card games. They also like to meet & hang out with other kids, I'm sure Hunter will have fun with them.

Any Cozumel port adventure recommendations? While Adventure Park looks like fun, reviews don't seem that positive. Read positive reviews for both Paradise Beach & Nachi Cucomo.
Thanks!

Where did you find reviews of the excursions?

Discovered the beach resorts reading dis trip reports. Checked out reviews on several travel sites, Trip Advisor is an easy one to navigate. I ran into someone today who was on a Carnival cruise this summer and went to Paradise Beach for the day, the adults and kids loved it. I tried to post link but can't until I get more postings. Just google Paradise Beach Cozumel.
