March 22-29, 2008 - Here Before You Know It!

Well I have DH's jacket cut out tonight, adding a lining to the sleeves and upper back.

We go to a lot of renaissance fairs, so he already has a shirt and pants. My back up is a top and skirt instead of the dress.

Packing update: :upsidedow

Before long I will be reduced to a small corner of the suitcase for me.. :rotfl2:

DW has at least 3 outfits per day with somedays having four (incase she decideds to change before going out after dinner). :confused3

She has 7 pair of shoes...:rolleyes1

I spent 15 minutes in Dillards (store in the mall) yesterday... and had 4 shirts, 2 pair of shoes and new wake board shorts purchased; Im finished. :cool1:

Your DW is in good company here. ONLY 7 pair of shoes? :rotfl2: My DH is the same way. I've been packing for weeks. He'll throw his stuff together the night before we leave. It's a guy thing. Women are planners--sometimes to the extreme. (I'm not afraid to admit it!) :)

I try not to read into the drama :scared:

In a nut shell what is the stuff about the engines not working??

Is that our ship?

Yes it is the Magic. I don't know what to believe but apparently problems with the engines coupled with high winds lead to delays into ports and no Castaway Cay on the 3/1/08 sailing. Apparently several people who are supposed to be adults caused a mob scene and were very nasty to the crew and the captain. I gather it was very ugly. I don't know what is going on with the current sailing.

Wow: 3 threads have been closed in 24 hours time. Either the powers that be are certain that the engines are fixed or .... !!!

The prior poster is correct. The real sad story was the apparent mob scene when the ship was told that they would not make the docking at CC. They had not made it to one of the eastern port on time. What is still unclear is how much all of this was due to weather vs engines.

My thread was locked after this final post. Hopefully great news!

I hope you notice that my thread was cautious and just trying to get info. In fact, I am a little puzzed why it was locked as it has good news.

The longer thread (not by me) is too sad for me to post a link. You do NOT need to read this. In just a few days time, 13 pages were written. A lot of anger... the OP did their best to calm down things and keep everyone remembering that DCL must put safety first, and we must remember that anything can happen. Incidentally my favorite post was by lbgraves and told of how the very first cruise contracts said that all a cruise line promises is that you are on a ship, and does not promise where it goes, or that you even are on a specific ship!

I am so ready to go..... engine trouble.......BRING IT ON!!!!!
I am a packing procrastinator, I have the suitcases here, I am looking at them.........why can't they just pack themselves? I have taken all of our stuff out and looked at it a hundred times, I hate to pack. DH hates it to so I am stuck packing his stuff also.
I bought some bonine today to bring along, I read somwhere that we should start taking it 2 days before the trip does anyone know if this is correct?
We leave the land of Lincoln next Thursday!!!!!! Cant wait!!!!!

I, too, am a packing procrastinator. This year I have a good excuse, we are out of town the two weekends prior to leaving for the cruise so my suitcases are busy doing something else. :)

As far as the locked threads...I think there is a lot of speculation, from the passengers, from the crew, everywhere and rumors started that caused the mass hysteria. People put so much energy into their vacations that they can't go with the flow when something goes wrong. I always believed that it was situations like this that make us stronger as people (what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger). In all of our lives we have so few opportunities for our character to be defined. This was one for those people. Some came out well others not so much, but hopefully everyone learned from how they dealt with adversity and can move forward.

We are so ready....11 days and counting :cheer2: pirate: :cool1:

llp479 I've never heard of an anti-seasickness watch. Does it work well? We're stocked up on Bonine here. I'll probably take it the whole cruise, just to be safe. (Unless I am too sleepy from it--but a 1/2 tab usually does it for me.)

It's called Relief Band and it generates a small electrical current to calm your stomach. The captain of our whale watching crew recommend it to me after I spent all of his cruise hanging off the back of the boat  DH bought it for me for our Wonder cruise two year ago and I ended up needing it the night we crossed the straights. Nice thing is you can use it only as you need it, so if you're already feeling ill, it will still work. It's FDA approved for chemo patients and pregnant women. I would have killed for one when I was PG.

9 more sleeps and we're out of here!

Can you tell me what types of retailers have this? Is it over the counter or do you need a prescription?

DW final packing list: (actually read and tallied it) :coffee:

7 bikinis

9 pair shoes (includes Crocs & flip flops)

24 outfits :laundy:

I swear I could do the entire cruise on 1 shirt, 1 pair kakhis, flip flops and swimsuit :cool2:

The relief band sounds great! I need to find one of those. I've bought everything else you can buy....pressure point bands, ginger pills, bonine....maybe I won't need any of it...well, I can always hope!

Packing...man, I have to finish that. I'm only planning 4 outfits, 2 jeans, formal and semi formal....2 pairs of shoes...gosh, maybe I should pack more?

I checked with our TA Saturday and they called Disney about our papers. Disney says they sent them but they would overnight them. Went today and picked them up. Yeah!

We are flying into Orlando at about 12pm. Does anyone know how often the Disney bus leaves the airport? Thanks.

Susan

I have a question for previous cruisers. How much cash should we bring? I know that we'll need some 1's for tipping room service and quarters if we do laundry. Also know that on the ship, everything--including tips can be charged to the room. I'm curious about needing cash at the ports. We do have excursions planned but figure we'll want to buy some souvenirs at these places. Do most places take credit cards or would be better to deal in cash? Any advice would be appreciated!

I've packed a million times in my mind--just need to put those thoughts in to action!

I saw a seasickness band at Walmart yesterday. It was not a watch, just band, i wonder if that will work?
I have packed my suitcase, I will start on DSs' tonight. He will be easy to pack for......he will probably live in his trunks for the entire cruise. He loves the water. We have a pool and today the weather was great, it got up to 69 and my boy wanted to open the pool. He is just ready for spring!!!!!
Can't wait to meet everybody, were and what time are we supposed to be meeting on the ship? Are we still supposed to have the green disney paint chips from home depot?

As far as tipping, you don't really need cash except for maybe Palo. On our first cruise we went to guest services and had tips charged to our KTTW card and they allocated to the specific persons for us. I think there was a worksheet. We were given little slips to write a message to give them. We didn't go Palo last time, so it is my guess that cash is needed there. Some cash for the island is probably warranted, but plastic works too.

Don't forget to tell your credit card company about international travel.

Not to be a complete opposite to the tipping question... but I tip alot and often... You would be surprised how much $5 here or there will change everyones outlook..

Look at it this way... You already dropped several thousand to go on the cruise... whats another 100 bucks if it will get the extra little ambition out of someone to make your trip outstanding..

Big time slacker here - haven't started to pack! Usually I'm well on the way by now. Thankfully, I never totally unpack. I've got all of our toiletries in bags ready to pull out and pack, as well as our WDW only items. (Too many years traveling for business!)

Got plenty of $1's for our trip - was responsible for a collection at work, so I kept the $1's for us! We never needed any $$ for our last cruise, just put all of the tips, including Palo, on the room. This time we're getting off the boat more, so the $$ may be needed.

8 days and counting until we leave for FL! Can't wait!

One thing I forgot to add about tips. We didn't use room service last time since our cruise was just 3 days. You would need cash for room service tipping.

It hasn't been mentioned in a while, so I thought it may be a good idea to repeat the meet information for the cruise.

Here is the original posting:
Here is my "management decision" if it is ok with everyone else. Not very management. Everyone pick up the Home Depot Disney paint chips in Disboard green and attach it to themselves somehow. (See my earlier post. I am not really sure which green is correct.) Home Depot is a national chain right?

We can meet at 3:00 pm. I searched the dis for information and found the photo below posted by WDWLVR back in 2006.

Deck10photo.jpg

This was the caption under the photo: "We always do deck 10 at 3pm. Mid-ship right above the Goofy pool on the side by the port (not to be confused by the port side)" By 3pm everyone is usually aboard and has had lunch and been to their rooms. It gives us a good 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to chat before the drill. Deck 10 is usually quiet at that time.
