March 22-29, 2008 - Here Before You Know It!

Oh, wow! That is rediculously cold! I think the coldest it's ever gotten here, with wind chill, is something like -15 or so. But it's snowing here, and we are out of school....again. At least since my kids have been in school, there have never been this many snow days. We don't even have this many built in, so we still don't know how they are going to make them up.

Can't wait for the cruise here either. We are less than 2 weeks leaving town.:cool1: :goodvibes

Hello!
I received a tip from my travel agent the last time we did the DC and it really was successful. She suggested buying blow up rafts at the dollar store to be used and discarded at Castaway Cay. A lot cheaper than renting rafts there. My kids liked the rafts so much, though, they insisted on bringing them home.

Stellmb-I've gotten your messages, but can't seem to return them for some reason.
:)

Post4 Welcome aboard party: Also, Welcome to the Disboards! :disrocks:

I suspect you are trying to PM stellamb? If so, I don't think you have quite enough posts to do that yet! I know someone else on this post, going back several months ran into the same issue. :thumbsup2 I think you have to have at least 5? :confused3

Maybe this is Mother Nature's way of making me appreciate our trip even more because it is snowing again today! Even if we couldn't dock at CC, just being in the warmth and sun is what I'm most looking forward to.

Two weeks from today we sail!!!!! Nine more days of school and work.

TWO WEEKS and we'll all be doing this at the Sailaway Celebration!

:rockband:

I'm working on packing today. It'll take me 2 weeks to be ready!:laundy:

I picked up my altered formal dress from the tailor today.

It is great to lose weight but they have a lot of nerve how much they charge for alterations. :scared1:

I tried on all my spring/summer clothes last night. With the shorts and tops I am good. The shorts are little loose but don't look too bad. The tops fit the way I like them not too tight. My capri pants are another story. They are so baggy, they look like clown pants.

There is no helping it. I will just have to do more shopping. I have been finding limited seasonal clothes in the stores. Don't they know the Holloways are going on a cruise. I thought I told everyone. :rolleyes1

You go girl, shop til you drop!!:thumbsup2

(The "clown pants" might work for pirate night--pirates tend to wear baggy clothes. At least from what I've seen in movies--not that I've ever met a pirate!):rotfl2:

Did you see this thread about the sea being so rough they didn't go to Castaway Cay today. I hope things calm down in the next few weeks.

Here is the thread.

http://http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1746717

Have any of you noticed where this post's thread found by Jerseybelle has been heading...? apparently, one of the Magic's 5 "engines" is having problems and slowing it.

Now disclaimer: there are conflicting posts on this. Elsewhere on the board.

Some posts say this has led to shorter port times in the ports. (one that would severely affect my family is Cozumel). Other posts say that a medical emergency was the real reason for the shorter port yimes.
on the other hand, there are posts emphasizing that the "engines" referred are never run all 5 at a time....

After doing searches, I did not find any good answers. I decided to hold on starting a thread on it until more trip reports come in with facts.

That link was hilarious!:rotfl: Thanks for sharing it before it was shut down. I am shaking my head that someone has locked it. The OP never mentioned a specific group that he was targetting - could have been anyone, anywhere. Someone needs a conch cooler and a sense of humor!

That just shows how clueless I am. I didn't even think of it as being offensive to some people when I read it. I just thought it reminded me of the relatives from the movie National Lampoon's Vacation with Chevy Chase. popcorn:: Just over the top and cartoon like. I guess it is hard to walk in someone else's shoes sometimes. :confused3 I am sorry if I offended anyone on this thread by passing it on. It was purely comic relief and not to offend. :flower3:

Kohl's has had quite a bit of spring/summer items. I had to go out today and get almost 14 yr old DD a new swimsuit. She and her twin tried on suits they wore in Oct for our last WDW trip, and low and behold, nothing fit! Picked up Easter items at the Disney Store so it wasn't all bad.

I'm going to start packing this week. I think we've got everything, but then I think of something else. Like the fact that Disney is taking our bags the night before and checking them for us, so that all my items needed for the next day have to either be under 3 oz and fit in a small bag for our flight, or will be sacrficed to the large bin at MCO. Since we're spending the rest of the day before our flight at WDW, suncreen was the main concern. Found some small sizes at Target today so now we're good there.

Can't believe we'll be doing the single digit dance come Tuesday!

Thanks for the reminder about this. We're not flying out on Saturday but I forgot that we will need all the "getting ready in the morning stuff" kept out of our big luggage on Friday night.

On the main forum, I just read the thread about not getting to CC and the little "mob scene" that occurred as a result. Not getting to a port isn't so concerning to me (unless of course we missed EVERY port). What is concerning is that it sounds like they disabled the ship stablizers due to make the ship move more quickly due engine problems which resulted in sea sickness. :scared1: Yikes, I hope that if this is all true that DCL has that problem fixed ASAP.

On a lighter note, starting to wonder if we can even fit all of our stuff in 4 suitcases! Everything I read says that most people overpack. I'm a habitual overpacker by nature so I really don't know how to manage this. :)

Is it proper to say "We're leaving NEXT WEEK" now? :cool1:

You bet it is! My single digit dance starts tomorrow as we leave next Thursday! More lousy snow this AM, but it's supposed to be in the upper 40's rest of the week.

Reading about the seasickness reminded me I need to make sure I have batteries for my anti-seasickness watch!

Well DW laid out outfits yesterday

Does anyone else pack a bikini for each day?? :confused3

I meen come on a bikini for each day? :scared:

I know I am going to get the eye roll when my dh see that I am packing 4 swimsuits. (not bikinis). I think it is hard to get them to dry in the staterooms.:laundy:

I am a handbag junkie and my dh is surprised that I am only bringing the one I will have with me on the airplane. Dah Don't need a handbag on the ship, just my KTTW card. I am sure I will have more shoes packed than he thinks I should have.

Little tip for everyone in case you didn't think of this. On our last cruise, one of our pieces of luggage was lost for a day. Of course it was mine. It was found and flown into Nassau and I had it by dinner time the next day. The lesson learned was that everyone's packing will be spread evenly throughout the six suitcases instead each having completely separate packed bags.

Anyone else dressing up for the Pirates' Night???

I'm too old for a bikini (a tankini? Sure) and I'm with JerseyBelle and HFC1969's DW, more swimsuits are better! I have 3 packed for each of us in my family. (Because of the drying issue, of course--yea, right. ;) )

Bring all the handbags you want JerseyBelle, each-- I am sure-- has a different purpose. Here's my funny story--I was digging through my 5 pair of black strappy sandals and can only find 4 1/2 pair of black strappy sandals. I have lost ONE shoe! Of course, it is one of the pair that I wanted to wear on formal and semi-formal night. DH said, "Why can't you just wear one of the other FOUR pairs?" I may be forced to do this :scared1: but the missing pair is the "perfect" heel height and style. I am sure you women can relate to this horrible dilemma. Just where does one shoe disappear to??? I am clueless.

That being said I am probably bringing way too many shoes. I can't stop shoppng for shoes for my kids either! None of their summer shoes from last year fit--so it's justified spending, right? :thumbsup2

SMDent your costumes are awesome! My kids would probably look great with you two--they're wearing Disney Store E. Swann and Capt. Jack Sparrow costumes. DH & I aren't going all out--but really wish we were. Just didn't think of it in time. I looked at a local party store this week but the costumes looked really chinzy to me (Now I'm a pirate costume snob!princess: ) not really cool like yours.

llp479 I've never heard of an anti-seasickness watch. Does it work well? We're stocked up on Bonine here. I'll probably take it the whole cruise, just to be safe. (Unless I am too sleepy from it--but a 1/2 tab usually does it for me.)

I am rambling on and on. Sorry! Just getting excited to leave NEXT WEEK! :cheer2:

SMDent: Ditto on the awesomeness of your costumes. We planned pirate attire when we cruised 3 days in 11/06 and not that many people were dressed in costumes. We decided to not bring costumes this time; however we are bringing the Captain Hook hat that my husband had from last time and our dd will be wearing it. We have a great picture of her wearing it at the deck party. It was random shot made by the DCL people and we purchased it from Shutters.
