March 22-29, 2008 - Here Before You Know It!

Thanks all for the info. I am sure we would like to meet with everyone, but i am not sure about the fish extender activity. Is it still possible to meet with all of you without the fish extender activity? What color green am I supposed to be looking for at home depot?:cool1: :goodvibes

Meeting and the fish extender are totally separate. You can do whatever you want. The color at home depot is lime green.

Stella,

I just sent you a private message. Let me know if you received it. I also tried to email you but that is turned off in your profile. I have mine that way too. I am going to need to be able to communicate with you so we will address the matter if you can't pm.

I added you to the list. As far as what kind of things. That would be up to you. If you go somewhere like Target or a dollar store they sometimes have little $1 items such as Disney note pad, magnets etc. It doesn't have to be Disney either. Anything. If you see items in the store, think would my kids like those? If the answer is yes, then it would probably be a good item. You have to consider getting the items in with your luggage and how much would really fit in the fish extender pockets.

Once the entire list is compiled (around 2 weeks before, you will know exactly how many items you need and what the age/gender the kids are. I will give updates from time to time (see below)

It doesn't have to be just kids; however I think it is mostly just kids that families would put in to participate. I think of it this way, what inexpensive trinkets do I want as an adult? I am only putting my daughter in the list; however who knows, I may see something out in about that I would get for each family but I haven't set out from the start of getting something for the adults.

As of now, the following families have joined in:

Jerseybelle dd10
Whamma ds10 and dd5
Stellamb ds9

Stella,

Towels for the pool and shore excursions are supplied by DCL. Some people bring their own and some people buy them on the ship. The supplied towels are basic. When we cruised in November 2006 we used towels to keep the water we were bringing from rolling around in an empty suitcase. We are not bring any this time around.

There are boys around your sons age on the cruise. Read through this thread and you will see some posts about pre-cruise penpals. I have a daughter who is 10 but she isn't the "Disney Princess" sort so she is perfectly comfortable hanging with the boys her age.

The oceaneers lab is for kids ages 8 - 12; however they do separate them into sub-age groups for specific activities (non-free time). These ages are 8 - 9 year olds and 10-12 year olds. I have no idea whether your son being nearly 10 by the time of the cruise being allowed to be with the 10-12 year olds. I would suggest checking with the lab when you sign them up. the 10-12 year olds have activities that take them to the teen club (at a time when the teens are not scheduled using it). OceanQuest which is separate from the lab is for 10-14 year olds. I don't know more about this other than what I read as this wasn't on the Wonder.

hi
I did get your pm but can not send one out i get a messageCould not find phrase 'error_postcount_too_low_pm'

I did change my prrofile so you can email me so you can try that

mickeymouse918@aol.com thankyou stella

stellamb You don't have enough posts to PM. (Although I believe after you have posted 5x times you should be able to.) :thumbsup2 I think they do this to stop someone signing up and then attempting to SPAM a bunch of people selling things. Also, in your profile, you will need to have the PM tab turned on. My 2x DS's pirate: pirate: would be interested in corresponding with your DS. I will send you a PM.

JerseyBelle A big thanks :cheer2: for making the "Management" Decision on the cruise meet / lime green Mickey tags, and for taking the initiative on the fish extender goody thing. It looks like my DW's bag just got that much heavier, :sad2: for all the goodies she will likely buy to fill everyone's fish extender. :santa: You can sign our 2x DS's (10 & 12) up. They love anything Disney. The youngest has a particular affection for Stitch! in fact I think they could be Twins! :scared1: I'll send you a PM with our room details.

momdislover We have 2x DS's (10 & 12) as above, and they would love to make some more buddies. They have dropped a few e-mails :surfweb: with others joining our cruise already. I will send you a PM.

:disrocks:

hi thankyou so much for the info I was going nuts trying to figure it out thankyou stella

Jerseybelle- my ds who is 9(will be 10 in june) wants to participate in the fish extender activity. How many kids are on the list? i know you said that you would have a list ready about 2 weeks prior to cruise time.
what is the info regarding thee lime green paint chip? are we supposed to wear them? and then when/where are we meeting? sorry I have so many questions this is just all new to us.:confused3

momdislover,

I pasted below the info from the other posts. The Home Depot paint chip would just be put on you in such a way that it would be visual when joining the meet. This way when we gather for a brief meet before the safety drill, we easily see that we are with the people we are trying to meet. (see info below)

For the fish extender event you would buy a small trinket/gift for each child participating and put them into the fish extenders whenever you want during the cruise. I think one round is enough. You would PM me your deck, room number so that I can compile the list. Around 2 week before the cruise I will pm or email the complete list to all participants. I will send a final list one week prior in case of changes. Here is the current update of participants including your son:

Jerseybelle dd10
Whamma ds10 and dd5
Stellamb ds9
MS DIS FANS ds12 and ds10
momdislover ds9

REPEATING INFO FROM EARLIER POSTS:

1. Fish Extenders
Making another "Management Decision" Fish Extenders
From reading the posts I gather that several families want to participate in the Fish Extenders but there doesn't seem to be anyone with experience organizing it. I have read several posts throughout the board about these activities but never participated. I am willing to organize it; however I am leaning towards keeping it simple. Here is how I define simple:

1. I don't think it should be an every day activity. No one wants to run around to 20+ staterooms dropping off small gifts for 7 days. I think one round is enough and can be on whatever day works best for the family.
2. Each family participating should bring one trinket/gift for each child participating. No one wants to add a whole lot of more items to their already over packed luggage.
3. No kids? You can still participate.
4. Instead of trying to assign categories to each family (so that your child doesn't get 20 princess notepads), why don't we just try to purchase a variety of items. If you wish, send a message on this cruise meet when you have purchased items and provide a general description of your purchase so that purchasers after you will know.

If you have anything to add, I would like to hear from you. Anyone wishing to participate, send me a private message (PM) (I don't think room numbers should be just listed on the disboard). I will compile the information and forward the complete list to all participants around two week prior to the cruise with a final list one week prior to sailing if there are any late joiners.

Include the following in your PM:

a. Age and gender of the children who will participate (it is not necessary to give names if you would rather not). Just use dd and ds (Disney Daughter/Disney Son) and their age. (ie dd10)

b. Your deck and room number. If you are a GTY and don't have your number yet, just list GTY and provide your deck and number as soon as possible.

c. If there is anything that participants should know about your child (ie no candy, afraid of a particular disney character etc), include this information but there is no guarantee that all will note your request.

Cruise Meet

Here is my "management decision" if it is ok with everyone else. Not very management. Everyone pick up the Home Depot Disney paint chips in Disboard green and attach it to themselves somehow. (See my earlier post. I am not really sure which green is correct.) Home Depot is a national chain right?

We can meet at 3:00 pm. I searched the dis for information and found the photo below posted by WDWLVR back in 2006.
Deck10photo.jpg

This was the caption under the photo: "We always do deck 10 at 3pm. Mid-ship right above the Goofy pool on the side by the port (not to be confused by the port side)" By 3pm everyone is usually aboard and has had lunch and been to their rooms. It gives us a good 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to chat before the drill. Deck 10 is usually quiet at that time.

Ok....

The gathering has begun!!

We have about a dozen bikinis laying in the game room of the basement, DW needs to narrow her decison.

At least 12 pair of heels made their way out also...

So much for using that room anymore...

Let the packing begin!

I decided to not be a "Hunter/Gatherer" this time until March 1st. For our previous cruise I had a cruise box under the couch and for months I was tossing things into it.

And Now It Is Time For Another Question From Me (big Surprise)
My Dh And Ds Will Not, No Not Ever Participate In The Formal Night Event, I Would Love To Attend But Well I Am Outnumbered. My Question Is: If You Choose Not To Do Formal Night What Other Options Are There? We Will Not Be Banned To Our Lovely Staterooms---right? Also, What Does "semi-formal" Mean? My Dh Heard Semi-formal And Said If It Involves A Tie And/ Or Jacket It Is Nixed. Please Help Me!!!!!!

i was wondering if anyone had any info about cozumel. we have shore excursions booked everywhere else, I have been reading and some of what I have read suggest that we will not be in cozumel long enough to enjoy some of the excursions without feeling rushed. ant suggestions?

Formal doesn't mean formal only on Disney. Bring your dressiest clothes, polos and khakis are fine for men and go. You will see all phases of dress, from formal, prom-style dresses to capris and tops during both formal and semi-formal. I don't "dress up" either, but I felt comfortable in the dining room. Disney wants you to be happy. :goodvibes

I don't know how comfortable my dh will be in a room full of men in tux's. Khakis and a polo is his version of dressed up!!! as far as my ds is concerened i could probably make him.... but then I would have to listen to him wine and complain about his "itchy" clothes!!!! We are very and I stress VERYcasual people. We don't "do" formal. last april we went to WDW and had a late night dinner at the california grill (atop the contemporary) to see the fireworks, we felt very out of place!!! I just do not want to feel weird!

momdislover,

You may want to search out in the main cruise forum. There are threads with pictures and other info about formal and semi formal. I only did the 3 day before so there were no formal or semi formal nights.

As far as us, I am planning on having "cocktail dresses" and heels for these two nights. My husband will wear a jacket and tie (maybe a suit if he can fit into it in a month). We won't be doing the gowns and tux thing. My husband works at home to tell you what kind of clothes he has in his wardrobe. We have Palo booked for the Semi-formal night.

We will be dressing like we are attending a special occasion dinner or someone's wedding not our wedding or the senior prom. We haven't decided about our daughter. We will likely have her in the club to avoid her needing to get dressed up for dinner.

We booked all our shore excursions from someone else...

Also my son and I have matching tuxes.. w/ MM on the vests...

Hi,

I can't believe we are down to one month. How will I ever work during the next few weeks. Anyone waiting for their GTY, ours was posted on the website today. No upgrade but that is OK.

Just wanted to give an update of the information for the fish extender event (repeated below). If you haven't decided to join in, there is plenty of time to decide and we would love to have you.

Here is the current list of families participating:

Jerseybelle dd10
Whamma ds10 and dd5
Stellamb ds9
MS DIS FANS ds12 and ds10
