March 2010 Rental thread?

Anyone get good deals lately?? Right now we have a midsize 2/26-3/8 for $275 with taxes.

We just reserved with National Emerald Reserve a midsize from 3/16-3/23 for $225. I used my 10% Emerald Club membership and $30 off a weekly rental that came direct from the website.

Just checked Alamo's rates again (I check every Wed.). Rebooked my 3/11-16 compact ressie & saved another $15.00. Total price was $159.98. Used Walmart code 430710 & BJs free day coupon code AF4488SDQ.

Save another $11.00 for total of $148.32 using ecoupon AD2123JMC for $30.00 off versus 1 free day.

Update: Using Costco code W852802 and Coupon MUGZ029 for $30.00 off the total for a compact with Budget after coupon is applied at checkout is $117.72.

Thanks for the reminder! I just got our total rental down to $182.98 through Costco again with Budget for March 13 to 21st. Wow, what a savings!

I usually find Alamo to be the best priced of the onsite, but about a week ago I booked Budget with the Costco codes and they've got Alamo beat. But I'll keep checking...

No problem. Actually once $30.00 coupon is applied at checkout your total will be $152.98. Good deal.

Thank you Webworm! It didn't save me $11.00 though. It did bring the price down to $151.03. Can I ask where that $30.00 off coupon came from? Is it a Costco coupon? I'm always nervous about using coupons I may not be entitled to.

I haven't rented with Budget before. I really like the convenience of the Alamo kiosks, but for a significant saving it's probably worth a shot.

I really like the convenience of the Alamo kiosks.

We used Alamo our last trip to WDW and got a great rate. They are one of those places where an 8+ day rental is actually cheaper than a week. We got an intermediate 10 day rental last time for $147 total. This year it's not looking as good...our 8 day rental is currently at $228.09 and our 9 day is 230.68. Both including all taxes. (Used my Sam's code for a lower rate and free additional driver and then a coupon for $30 off the weekly rental.) I may be swayed by those Budget rates as well! We'll see how much all the rental places go down between now and March.

Thanks everyone for posting and sharing codes/info/experiences!!

The coupon was on carrental savers and flyertalk but it's an ecoupon. With Alamo if a coupon is expired or invalid you get a message. I have never been asked for a coupon with Alamo and using the Kiosk makes it very easy and quick to checkin.

Hey all...I just rechecked my late March dates with Alamo and they've dropped about $20 for a 5 day compact (booked as a week) since yesterday, so I redid them. If you have Alamo or are thinking of using them, I'd take another look. (Used Costco codes within this thread, but the base rate had dropped as well).

Good luck!

My March rate with National dropped this weekend, by $50. I am now at $200, total for a one week rental (full size/Executive aisle). Using 5007160 and the $40 coupon ND1881jdk.

Just got a mini van from Budget using the Travelocity code that has been talked about. x474200 We are renting from March 12 to 20, and the total was $ 353.55 all in. :cool1:That is the best rate I've seen yet for a mini van. On another thread the code was confirmed, so I'm hoping it's all ok! Thanks to whoever posted it first!

Your rate is actually a total of $123.84 for a compact using Costco code W852802 and Costco Coupon MUGZ029 for $30.00 off. Note coupon is applied on checkout.

I applied these codes and got a great rate for March as well. I was wondering do you usually have to show your costco card when you pick up the car, we are Canadian costco members (hopefully that's ok, too). And what about the coupon, do you need to have it with you? because I cannot actually find a coupon to print off or is it just sufficient to have the code in the reservation?

You probably won't be asked for either, but I'd always be prepared to do so.

Bring your Canadian Costco membership card (I'd guess its the same as USA). I think the MUGZ029 code is electronic, but here's a link to the Costco page that has it (I'd just print the page out and bring it along):

Hotwire.com just sent me an alert email about rental prices at MCO for March 11 through 14. They're showing a full sized or standard car for $13.95 per day, and an economy, compact, or mid-sized car for $15.95 per day.

I actually have no earthly idea why they sent me this alert, since I'm traveling from March 7 through 10, but maybe it can help some of you out! :flower3:

anyone use hotwire for rentals?

We used them for our last trip in Dec. Of course we got stuck with the one car rental company we did not want - Hertz. Nothing against Hertz because they were fine, but they are the only hotwire rental company not on-site at MCO. The added time & hassle of getting & returning the car offsite were not worth it to us even though we did get a good rate. We much prefer the convenience of on-site car rentals. The actual hotwire experience was easy though just be prepared to get Hertz. From what I've read it's pretty common given the size of their fleet. If you're ok with that I say go for the cheap hotwire rates. HTH.
