March 2008

Two groups - great.

Make sure you post the name of your group and I will add it to my planner for that day.

Same for you Baby>3 - I would love to catch it.

Thanks for the support! :goodvibes

DS's band is Carterville Marching Lions from Carterville, IL and are scheduled to march before the afternoon parade at MK on Thursday, March 13, 2008.

I am assuming that kids will be marching in their "formal" band uniforms...those blasted wool things  which are navy blue with white and orange trim and a sequined waist thing. Oh, man...I turned 41 this month and my brain has really gone wacky lately.

I'm having the hardest time already trying to figure out if I want to attempt to march along with the kids, but I know the crowd issues that make that difficult. Or where in the name of Mickey to park my momma self to get the best photos? I'm thinking it may be one of the first times I actually go stake my claim an hour before the parade. popcorn::

candizfan, thanks again! :goodvibes

We did it, we did it! :woohoo: We've booked our first trip EVER to Disney for the first week of March 2008! Our boys will be 6, 3 and 6 months! I'm not sure what to expect, but heh, it'll be a family learning experience!! :goodvibes

We're driving from TX with our travel trailer and staying at Fort Wilderness for a week!

Are we there yet?

We'll be there from Feb. 28 to March 7, our usual week. My university breaks from March 3 - 7 as does several others in my neck of the woods. I expect crowds to be moderate, by getting to rope drop and using FastPass a guest should be able to get in all the major attractions before the stand-by lines get crazy. Weather should feature temps from 75 - 85 as daily highs, and March has the third lowest rainfall of any month. We've been to Disney mid Oct., mid Nov. and the first 10 days in Jan. and early March is our favorite time to go.

staying at BWV and OKW - March 2 - 6 - changing resorts after 2 days. but I wanted BWV standard view and this was all that MS had at the time.

flying on SW!

How did you get the Resort photo in your signature????
:surfweb:

Click on User CP from the menu bar at the top of the page. It is part of your signature. I can't remember exactly but you can select to add an image.

It might be in the FAQ? If I figure it out, I will let you know. I want to add another, but have not been able to figure that out either. :confused3

The say the best location to see the parade is where the route bends. Then you see them coming toward you. I have marked the date on my planner and I will try to catch them. If I get good shots, I will post and let you know. So I would look for a planter or bench near a bend that would allow you to get shots of the group. You will miss the excitement if you march with them but you will be part of the action...tough choice. But it sounds wonderful.

So far we have:
Tues. Teppan Edo Lunch
Weds. Tusker House Buffet
Thurs. Liberty Tree Tavern
Fri. Cape May Breakfast-getting moved to the Yachtsman.

The Japanese restaurant and Tusker House Buffet is new to us-so I am following the reviews to see if that needs changed.
We had been away from the MK for a few years so we did The Coral Reef, in May and Narcoosie's in Sept. as places we had never eaten. Now looking for more adventures from the usual Whispering Canyon and Ohana's.
Both trips on the DDP and seeking ideas from DDE folk-is it a good deal to pay money to get the discount?

Would love to do the Illuminations dinner & dessert thing for 8 or more or the Illuminations Cruise...just need to find "more" since we are only 5 between 19 and 55 (DM, DH, DD, DS, DS).
Happy planning out there! popcorn::

I hadn't thought about a location like that...coming around the bend. I was thinking if I could stake out a location on top of the train station I could get the band coming straight down Main Street, around the curve toward City Hall and around Town Square to the back stage area. My rationale is that I'd have a longer frame for shooting than if I was just standing in the crowds. I've just rememebered that the DIS has a photography board, so I'm gonna go ask over there for some suggestions as well.

But, you are absolutely AWESOME! :thumbsup2 Thanks so much for offer of posting any good shots you might get! Gotta love this DIS family for things just like that! :grouphug:

I'll keep you posted if the dates or times change. I'll try to post a photo closer to the date so you can see what the band (and DS) looks like. I just found out yesterday that my Turkey Gang Cruise buddy and her family will be there the same week. She said she's gonna yell out DS's name really loud and maybe embarass him. He's pretty good about ignoring the yells though, but it'll be cool to have other people supporting his band! :goodvibes

Thanks again!

momsgoofy - the train station sounds like a good idea for a photo.

Yes, please keep me posted and I will watch for your son in the band.

The DIS group is pretty great and I enjoy chatting with everyone. I have met some wonderful people while renting out my DVC points on the rent/trade board. I have made a few very close friends over the past few years.

Happy Halloween everyone!

The guys reservations for the Petty rookie driving experience came.
The trip is starting to feel a little more real

WOW - that sounds incredible.  My DH would be so excited to do this....but we have never gotten around to it.

I am at the 124 day mark now. Only 34 days before I can make golf reservations for my DH...but he would rather race the car.

I just realized that on my dd's birthday at the end of the month we will be under 100 days until we go. :cheer2:

I just read your post about your DD's HS Band marching in the parade on the 13th. Are there going to be mutiple bands in the parade. The reason I ask is that my wife and I are band geeks with her currently teaching Jr High music here in Alabama. We both marched with the pretty well known Sound of the South marching Band at Troy University. If there are more bands we may change which park we are going to be in that day. Thanks for any info!pluto: pluto:

As far as I know there is usually only one band that kicks off the parade...it's been a while since I've actually seen the start of the afternoon parade. If memory serves me...lol...they actually march before the parade, before the Grand Marshall cars and all that stuff...like the warm up act for the parade.

If you happen to be in the Magic Kingdom that day, it would be awesome to have more support for our DS's high school band. :grouphug:

Our band program is really starting to take shape...this is the director's 10th year and he's done great things for a very small school...only 500 students. When he started he was responsible for all instrumental music in the district from 5th grade to the high school. Last year the district finally hired in a junior high band director, but they still only do concert band. There are a few kids from the junior high that march with the high school...DS started marching in 7th grade so this is his 4th year. Including the auxillary we have 99 members...55 are actual musicians.

I'll keep everyone posted if there are any changes.

Thanks again for the support!

Anyone planning on attending a Pirate and Princess Party in March?

Yes! :cool1:

DH and I are planning to do the Pirate and Princess Party on March 11...the only date we'll be there for in March. Friends might join us if they can work into their week.

Ooops, changed my resort ... I'm now staying at the CR with a MK view :cool1:
